Michal Gajdoš got a reaction from SRV1981 in Sony vs Canon colour science - does this explain the difference?
The color is not a physical property of any object, it is only subjective to our mind. What we are used to. There is zero science to your claims that Canon has "better" colors, there is no "better" color. A certain color you might find pleasing, is disgusting to others. Just as stated here:
On the other there are also articles saying the opposite, like this one : http://web.mit.edu/abyrne/www/ColorRealism.html, but as they say it works only to a certain degree.
However it is important to note the difficulty of creating a nice look with the sony's S Log compared to baked colors of Canon straight out of camera.
Personally, I don't care if canon has almighty color, if those grandpas cannot give me simple stuff like focus peeking or articulated screen (what is the almighty color shot to me if it is not in focus and my back is crying in pain) to more sophisticated stuff such as slow mo, better DR, better sensor etc. etc. etc. If only we could combine best of both worlds

A lot of people poop their pants for Canon color, but imho the Fuji looks better.
And while I think the pany colors are decent, but Fuji just looks awesome most of the time.

Nikon needs to address ergonomics, ecosystem, and UI, or their market share will continue to decline. Canon does, too, but less pressingly. Mirrorless cameras need to reach iPhone-level convenience before the iPhone reaches A7R-level image quality if the prosumer market is to survive.
This focus on specs will only get Nikon so far.
Which is sort of a shame because those specs are monstrous and the Nikon ecosystem is great. I'd love this camera for stills and video, assuming the video is decent in practice.
(The D5 and 1DXII are fine for what they are, but; they're pro tools specifically for sports. That's not going away, but it's a tiny market. The prosumer market is in danger of going the way of point and shoots though.)
Anyhow, awesome specs. Likely an awesome camera. Hoping it keeps Nikon in the game a while longer (and that the tech trickles down to Canon's ecosystem five years later lol).

This is not 1950 where companies don't give a damn about customer's preferences, How arogant you must be to think so little. Of course they care. "pure" business strategy wil lgive you nothing when all your customers will enjoy competitor's products. don't be naive, these companies exist because we buy their product (not me, has not give a single euro to canons crap)

    It's all about the product.
If it's market leading, it'll sell.
Panasonic dipped their toe in the water with the CM1, it was overpriced and very mediocre as a phone vs the competition. Camera even had it's flaws too.
C- for effort, must try harder.

RED are set to release their first smartphone, Hydrogen, in 2018.
As things stand, this is the first ultra-premium device in a new market for phones, priced ahead of any of the current flagship smartphones. I think it's an area that is going to see explosive growth.

I did give them some feedback and they passed it on down the chain, so that's good of them... and yes - I think there are people at Canon who would like great video as much as we would do, and I am sure some Canon staff are actual enthusiasts and film for a hobby outside the main job.
I will always carry on the crusade to get them to listen, and I will always be in the market for a Canon that does interesting stuff. Just bought an EOS M for Magic Lantern raw video with c-mount lenses. Canon Japan owe Magic Lantern a big thank you for the way they have kept the flame of passion alive somewhat for us in the absent of official video features.

    Both are dead now...
Obviously - from your own examples - NOT. Further...Yahoo, Altavista, first mover - and dust now....Google was NOT first mover. But it's a successful company.
It's not important to be first mover, it's much more important to have a successful & sustainable business strategy. Economy is NOT about dreaming around or beeing "first mover". It's survival of the fittest...At long term...
GM? Just saying to lower their sales expectations for 2017...Just another patient in coma...
Personally I don't like this idea at all, but nowadays general economic power and market share sometimes just kill innovations / an innovative attitude....

What does it matter being first. The problem with canon is the same as your argument. It's more than five years old, they have not moved since.
Is is so much to ask for a competing product from canon ?! others can do it, why can't canon?! it's as if BMW, mercedes, toyota and Renault were all offering flying cars but Audi refuses to do so, even though customers want to.
And no, no matter what argument you bring, canon 6d ii is not on par with competition (as long as video is concerned, photo side it's nothing special, nothing to wait 4 years for).

Well, it's nothing to celebrate. Canon and Nikon had to start innovating but I feel the boat has sailed a bit now... Is it too late? For online services, social media, smartphone cameras and the like, it probably is. If Canon had bought Instagram, etc. when they had the chance, different story. They didn't see it coming, they didn't see a future in that particular industry or the benefit of it to their core products. This may be over-simplifying it a bit but it gives you the general idea of the problem, of having 75 year old management guys in charge in Japan.
Canon may end up being more of a business-to-business company than a consumer facing one. They won't mind because it is whatever makes money, but the cultural loss to photography of their poor form will be felt.
Look at how quickly analogue sales dropped in just 5 years to practically nothing with the advent of affordable digital cameras between 2001-2005.

any data to support this ? i could say as well and make my assumptions e.g. I see hundredrs of people walking around and making videos. "For photos iphone is good enough" and other similar assumptions. Clearly there is a lot of people complaining about video features (their sensors are still the weakest) in canon DSLRs. Look here how many people are happy with the canon here ? but hey, panasonic and sony heck even olympus and fuji, seems to justify our needs better. And if such a small companies can do it better, then it just proves that canon is living in another planet.
I could nnot have said it better myself, and this is a prime example of a customer that canon has lost. Think again if these numbers are not relevant. YES talking to all you guys who think of Canon as some business, strategic GOD !

I know a lot of friends who bought a DSLR because it had video, Nikon lost lots of customers this way at the end of last decade. Now these people have a mirrorless or simply bought a better mobile phone because of 4k or just because they don't want to carry more than one piece of gear. That's on the amateur team. On the pro side, people keep using old DSLRs for photography or moved to Sony, Pana or Fuji for the convergence. I've been a jumper. I left Nikon for Canon and toyed with my good old Gh2(v). The GH4 was great but it's the GH5 that's making me leave Canon.
I was going to comment this on Redshark's article that looked promoted by Canon saying that 4k on a photo camera is ridiculous but I'm sure it's better here. In Slovakia there's a strange wedding tradition that nobody knows how the hell started. After the ceremony everybody, and I mean everybody congratulates the couple in a big queue. For a photographer is a nightmare. I was getting between 400 to 600 pictures just from that (people shaking hands or hugging and kissing, not a creative subject) and as you can imagine there are misses, which I wasn't sure if they were important or not. Now I just make a goddam 4k video and extract the best JPEG from there (EDIT: with my RX10II, that's why I'm waiting for the GH5). No more choosing between six photos with no good expression. Now I'm getting 24 and one is always good. It's a blessing. With 8k, or 4k 10bit and a good EVF for proper exposure I'm half certain photos won't be necessary outside of the fancy portrait with flash sessions. There, my 2 cents; I feel much better after saying that.

Canon can limit their DSLRs how they want and offer ridiculous mirrorless that no vlogger will use, they're just shooting themselves in the foot and losing credibility. I'm not recommending them anymore to my friends. They'll be soon the horse carriage in a combustion car world.

You are right. But that does not mean they might be wrong you know. Also Kodak did their research, did their decisions based on that, and were number one... at least for some time Don't think you can't fall just because you're too big, it happened before and can easily happen again. I agree with you in part. But a professional will normally spend far more time researching, filming, editing, experimenting, spending money and effort on paid gigs than a hobbyist who plays around with their toys. The talented amateur hobbyists who create awesome videos... normally become Pros. The common denominator is both talent and time spent on the craft.
For me the biggest issue I have with the kind of cameras I can afford is rolling shutter. Out of camera color, dynamic range, 4K is generally not an issue for me ... GH4, A7s or Canon Mark iii... I'm happy with all of the results I get. I've said it many times before... and I'll say it again. My talent has not caught up with available and affordable technology yet... so you won't hear complaints from me.
For hobbyists to be able to easily afford a $6000 camera is a bit of a slap in the face to pros who are producing work on lesser cameras without complaining. Not calling Andrew a hobbyist by any mean, because he has done paid gigs and EOSHD has become his profession... so there is tremendous talent and time spent on his part. But the article is either a bit click bait or bipolar for my liking...
