And the centre-left parties are letting it spread and enabling it.
A lot of people are stupid, but a lot of them just feel that the traditional career politicians don't speak for them.
Then we have 4 or 5 years of this or that liberal party in power and nothing changes.
Where is Kamala Harris now?
How do you lose to a fucking convicted felon? How useless do you have to be?
The democrats are now holding little signs up in congress!
What is that achieving?
You can't play diplomacy games with a fascist thug.
It's one of the reasons Putin is so powerful, he had half of them round his little finger, whilst Russian influence & money was deeply embedded in western society.
The only way you remove a fascist dictator or a mafia from power is violence.
The US might be about to find that out at the next election.
In the meantime, this China trade-war is really ramping up towards a possible armed conflict, and not a lot of Trump voters realise the seriousness of what he's started.

If an (unintended) consequence of all this nonsense is “buy local and buy less” then that will, I think, be a good thing.
Not protectionism. Not jingoism. Not anti-globalisation. But nevertheless possibly better for the planet and for our own health & wellbeing.

If the dummy battery cord is long enough (or if you use an extension), you can keep the dummy in a pocket while recording. I did that once while trying to film a documentary about a friend's sled dog race in Alaska in Winter. For the unattended camera on sticks, I put the battery in an insulated bag that I hooked to the ballast hook on the bottom of the tripod. For the camera that was either handheld or on sticks with me, I kept the dummy battery in my jacket's internal pocket.
The documentary fell apart for any number of reasons, but at least the cameras were working throughout the limited shoot.

Snowfun reacted to mercer in What is the maximum number of cameras you need
Don't get me wrong, I agree wholeheartedly. I love cameras and want to try them all. But I am fairly poor, so I need to only have what I need. So, for me, as a hobbyist, wannabe, narrative filmmaker, I can only justify so much.
That said... I have been itching to try something new. Have been thinking about looking at cameras and their picture profiles like different film stocks as opposed to shooting Log and creating a look in post. I suppose the smartest path would be Fuji for that endeavor.

Snowfun got a reaction from mercer in What is the maximum number of cameras you need
To some extent I disagree. As a hobbyist I am always wanting to try something different - not being constrained by what I need to do. And, inevitably, that gets me thinking about what I need to buy to do it. Ok, yes, it isn’t possible to “justify” it but my cupboard tends to fill up with bits and pieces I used (probably badly) once. As a hobby it’s fun to play and having toys make playtime so much more fun. But you are correct, it isn’t justified. I’ll stop…

Snowfun got a reaction from Emanuel in Why aren't camera companies making phones?
Why did RED Hydrogen fail?
Cost? It wasn’t that much more expensive than the top iPhone of its day.
Android rather than iOS? (Possibly the most significant reason I never used it as a phone - the photographs I took were fun).
The pre-sale hyperbole made it too easy to criticise?
Insufficient info relating to the expansion pins and the so-called (and never developed) cinema grade camera module?
Poor choice of manufacturer (who apparently promised more than they were able to deliver)?
Lack of mainstream interest/awareness of H4V/3D?
The in-built camera was certainly no better than other cameras in phones - immediately depriving it of any perceived advantage of being a RED? Expectation.
JJ’s habit of promising a rose garden (albeit inhabited by skulls) then problem after problem, waiting upon waiting… rather than low-key developing, low-key manufacturing and Big Hype delivering.
Design wise it was stunning. It received regular and significant updates. Yet it failed dismally. What lessons are there for any other camera manufacturer thinking along similar lines?
Don’t bother?

Yes. But that is running against the fundamental design principle of this camera - minimalism.
After all, anyone who wants/needs EVF, internal ND, IBIS etc etc isn't short of choice. That need is already met. This camera is very clearly intended as a niche product for a design-aware type of audience.
It is (far too) expensive for the feature set. It is unique at the price.
Choose one.
(Personally, I'm totally fed up with myriads of too-small-to-use buttons and seemingly infinite layers of menus... so definitely the second option for me).

Snowfun got a reaction from kaylee in How come expensive camera's look so much better?
I'd be confident that I am capable of making any camera - irrespective of price - look absolute garbage...
Ergo... it's not just the camera.
-
Snowfun got a reaction from kayasaman in Ideas for an initial camera for "roadtrip" documentary videos
If I was planning this the last thing I'd worry about was the actual camera.
I'd be more concerned about battery types. The more gear which can take adapters to use a single battery type (and therefore a single charger) is important. Personally I try to adapt everything to Hawk Woods (Sony) NP-F970 albeit the BM6k uses the smaller capacity ones (same charger).
(albeit the iPhone, drone and gimbals throw a spanner in the theory...)
I suppose the same could be said for the recording medium.

Snowfun reacted to newfoundmass in State of the industry summarized in an Insta post
I don't think you're part of the problem, really. Like you said, if you weren't doing it there's a good chance it wouldn't be done at all. And the truth is, for a lot of work, "good enough" is just that: good enough. For better or worse, today you can show an average business owner something crappy put together using the AI in CapCut or whatever and their socks will be blown off. So doing something better than that, even if it's not something that you consider your best work or are even that proud of, is fine, at least in my eyes.
The tiny house movement is kind of what inspired me, honestly. I could never live in one of those, too small, but a nice mobile home with 1200 square feet? That's enough to have a decent sized bedroom, an office for my video work/gear, and then a good sized living room and kitchen. I've always been someone that prizes function over everything else. My 15 year old vehicle? It ain't pretty but it does everything I need it to do and then some. Mobile home? I own it outright, have low property taxes, and it's more than a decent enough place to rest my head and work out of. These are things I value over everything.
When you temper your expectations, re: where you live, what kind of house you live in, what kind of clothes you wear, what kind of car you drive, etc. you become less impacted by industry changes. We could all, as human beings, stand to be a lot more economical. Almost everything in my home is used, from my furniture (all of it except my bed, my one luxury) to my pots, silverware and dishes. It not only was cheap, but it helped create a lot less waste. Most of my clothes? Second hand when I can find things my size, except for my underwear and socks! So if next year another pandemic happens, I'm pretty much in a position where I can survive that without too much hardship financially.
Kinda off topic I suppose, but I do think people would benefit from looking at things differently so that maybe you don't have to quit that dream job if you learn to live more economical. Living on a budget doesn't mean living in poverty!

Snowfun got a reaction from John Matthews in A Merry Christmas from EOSHD
Absolutely no new cameras in 2025. Chord Electronics will be taking my money as I need to upgrade my audio system.
(Indeed, a couple of cameras less - FX30 & BM4kStudio will head towards MPB).
Seasonal felicitations!
