But kye, it would indeed be dull to me personally if this site started catering to the average tech review taste. Apologies accepted big time of course!:) If smartphone reviews help me to pull something off like Tangerine, that would have to be "one charming motherxxx smartphone review".

It was priced for Hollywood to use as a crash cam, and for rental houses to buy a handful to rent out. Never intended to be a mass market product. These odd things always end up being the special ones, I forecast 1DC prices will be back up in the $12,000 range come another 20 years as they'll be collectors items (at least the ones still in a good condition).

Your response doesn't really make much sense...
I agree that only catering to a YouTube audience would be dull, and I think would miss the majority of smartphone users too.  That's why I specified influencers (many of whom don't use YT at all), parents, and amateur photographers.
Cinema has little overlap with smartphones, and despite things like Tangerine being released, this isn't likely to change.  Tangerine was a raw and verite style film that benefitted from being shot on a phone because that supported the aesthetic of the creative vision of the project.  This will not be true for the vast majority of films and will probably never be.
Yes, I'm aware of the "5MP is all you need" argument, but it doesn't reflect the way that this market segment thinks (they're technically based) and also doesn't reflect high-end printing technology.  Have you ever seen a high-resolution metal print in real-life?  They are absolutely stunning!  The eye is quite capable of seeing the increased contrast and retina-level detail of a print like this.  I remember seeing one landscape print that was perhaps 2m/6ft square hanging in a friends home, and they installed a dedicated down-light for it (how galleries do) and it was hugely impressive standing 2m/6ft away from it but if you stood arms-length from it the experience was immersive and drew you in to it.  Everyone who saw it was taken back by it and was drawn in to walk right up to it and examine the textures and details of the image - to explore it by literally walking left-and-right looking at it.
People don't print 8x10s and hang them on their wall much anymore, or not the people I know, but they do print large canvas prints (which can have good DR and colour) and they sometimes print metal prints, which have huge DR and very high resolutions.
People also print 5x7s and make large collages of images of their family, and make videos of their family members for relatives and friends on social media.
These are the target audiences that aren't being covered by EOSHD but might be interested in smartphone cameras.

I wouldnt second the assumption of lesser talent at all. It's lack of opportunity and collaboration. In the end Eoshd could develop a bit more into a collab space with meaningful feedback and exercises and experiments plus curated discussions. So how about for all the contributors of this thread, to try to give a meaningful vista a glowy gloomy painterly look, just one framing. Should be possible to attempt.

Right, but the word cinematographer or DP is really just a fancy name for a camera person. Saying it is “nice videography” sounds like an effort was made to sound condensing.
All labels aside. Great camera work. Some of those shots could easily be throw into a feature.

I think the Komodo does well with the color depth. It reminds me of the richness nighttime scenes have with 35mm. The A7 Sony stuff didn’t look as good to me.

I consider myself to becoming one. I have a lot of respect for the footage and its DP above. As a gaffer I have been an integral part contributing my lights to different DPs cinematography over the last couple of years. We all work hard for the art and dont get paid well often in the microcosm outside the general tv industry. But recognizing the average quality some well paid people produce, I won' t hesitate anymore to call myself becoming a cinematographer. By heart, effort and work ethic. 😊 And regarding framing, lensing and feeling and seeing I would consider you the same:) @mercer
I hope to get to post more in the future and to enjoy the effects of exchange and inspiration. Well all could do more of that and remember what it takes to produce material like the og post shares.

Instead of waiting for a breakthrough in artefact free image acquisition, we could get the creator of the raw recording motion app on board. We could furthermore support his efforts. Maybe the android powered mft camera would record raw with the motion app!

I should have been more clear with my comment. I meant, in Hollywood standards and the rules of the ASC. I'm barely a competent camera operator and that woman is way more talented than I am.
We're all striving to be better at the craft and she deserves and earned the same respect anyone on this forum would ask for.

Yeah 1D C has serious mojo especially in Canon LOG, big fat files full of nice colour and texture, not over processed, not too electronic.
I still have mine and will never sell it however obsolete it gets 🙂

Too late for that famous firmware file to make an appearance.
I reckon 1D C was cancelled almost as soon as it launched.

Apologies for resurrecting such an old thread. But I found it amazing that, here we are, 8 years after this thread was started and you still cannot find firmware, whether official or dumped, for the 1DC on the internet. A 1DX can be had fairly cheap these days and would be so fun to have with 4k capabilities. No wonder canon will always own this camera market. They play the game better than anyone.

I don’t think anyone ever said that... I would have to say this is cinematography, though. She’s using a particular vintage lens, camera, filtration, image processing, and shooting at particular time of day and weather conditions all to get that look.
Everyone acting like this is super easy. You’re all literally sleeping and she’s out shooting. 🤷🏼‍♂️
“Oh I could do this for sure. It’s not that good. Nice video.” Weird.

I got an amazing deal on the EM1 m2. Everything works except the mechanical shutter.

Shot in OM-400 and slight grading in Resolve with a film lut.

I joined EOSHD in 2015. I´m sure I remember that right. To find this video now, which back then stunned with its kinetic energy and beauty, its choice and combination of images, its rhythm and synergy with sound and music. So I guess this bump is like the goose bumps, which it gave to me back then- it is very, very obvious.:)

    Thanks!
How tricky is it to access all the old stuff from 2010-2018 I am wondering? I am thinking in the new site design, an archive of the Berlin "best of" days can be included so you can browse everything. I lot of people only just finding EOSHD will not even know it exists. The Digital Bolex footage, early GH2, 5D Mark III raw, the first Metabones speed booster prototype and seeing Berlin as it was before the recent upheavals would be nice to revisit but currently it takes a lot of digging!

I know, the title sounds a bit corny. But I just enjoyed a classy classic review. It also sounds like i might be ass kissing but far away from that. I just love the wealth and quality of reviews and threads on this site. I highly recommend browsing EOSHD. How come I open a topic with that "insight" and suggestion? Well, as others suggested yesterday, to test the search function with less then four characters, I just developed an appetite to enjoy some great Lumix G6 footage from Andrew again.
I love the vibe of Andrews Berlin, I love the vibe of my now broken G6. If it just had 100mbit and no noise reduction up to 1600 Iso, it would be all the camera I would really need! In Andrews reviews we often get to see the city of Berlin as it has been, an open space, which deserves to be called that actually! A space with warmth, variety and poetry, full of warm hearted people, with unpretentious beauty. These days my attributes to describe Berlin would be: occupied by the forces of money and algorithm industry, money with dirt glueing onto it, algorithms throwing dirt at us.
So cherishing low fi and old school and plasticy equipment with the promise and challenge of beautiful image quality is like cherishing the promise of the things and place we film with it. Thats why I love these classics, these classy reviews and Andrews Berlin. It is a promise which gives me hope and joy. cheers
