    Dear EOSHD community,
I am an independent french graphic designer and I regularly work in photo and video.
Over the years, I created a collection of 3D LUT files to ease the color grading of my projects.
Recently I created a pack with my 38 original LUTs.
They are profiled on high-resolution color matrix and were built to preserve skin tones as best as possible.
I had the chance to work with many different cameras and I spent a lot of time creating these looks and testing on raw footages, from 5DMKII and 7D with Magic Lantern, GH4, A7S, BMPC 4K, and stills from RED EPIC.
About HDSLR, these LUTs are calibrated on CineStyle/Cinelike profiles.
Also in my pack is included a LUT to properly « flat » a footage and get a good working basis before grading.
Website for more infos : http://luts.iwltbap.com
Instagram with short video samples : https://instagram.com/luts
At the end of this post you will find some sample images before-after.
My LUTs pack is for sale $20, but I created a discount code of -25% for EOSHD community.
So you can get it for $15 instead of $20 via : https://sellfy.com/p/Ainy/-EOSHD
My pack is regularly updated with new LUTs and all updates are free.
On my website you can download a free LUT with the famous teal-orange look.
Also, I offer for free a 4K film grain based on 35mm film scans (10sec video encoded in Apple ProRes 422 at 25fps).
Hope you will like my LUTs.
    Best,
    Benjamin

I stopped recording after 11 minutes. It's safe to say it's continuous. So yes, there is a Santa Claus if Santa Claus = continuous 24p compressed RAW at 3168 x 1320 (max vertical resolution without going wider than 2.4:1). Here's a DNG:
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/8trg0exly76nx9a/m01-1531_000000.dng?dl=0
Santa Claus is yet to bring correct preview framing while recording or sound. Let's hope it doesn't take until April 1st 2018.

benymypony reacted to Don Kotlos in LUT - To Bake or not to Bake
James Miller ran a test in which he recorded externally from GH5 with Vlog and he either applied the LUT in post or baked it in.
Even with an external recorder that offers high bitrates and very good codecs, the difference is quite big. See the color smearing ('YUV chroma smearing' ?) in many places and the color shifts in the shadows. I believe using baked in LUTs with external recorders should give better results with any camera with an HDMI log output.
I hope Panasonic implements a way to have baked in LUTs with Vlog internally. But I guess for now you can have an external recorder with the baked in look and an internal without.

It's generally easier, faster and cheaper for me to just mail a hard drive with return postage included (at least in the US using Priority Mail flat-rate packages). Anything over 5GB requires paid subscriptions, and postage is cheap.

Yeah 1 stop is about all you can play with on a m4/3 sensor. 2 stops on a good full frame camera works.

It depends of which RAW we are talking about. On RED cameras the RAW catches each frame on all ISO available, on the base of 800, so what you see on screen is just for reference. I don't see the interest to ETTR on RAW. But I can be wrong...
In LOG or standard usually I use the zebra. Set to 95%, I expose just one step before the zebra. Don't know if it's a good technique but it works well, on daylight and on night scenes with secondary LED panels.

benymypony reacted to Mat Mayer in Time for a new laptop, any lightweight options?
This is an awesome idea. Found the PCSPECIALIST website and it seems ideal to build a laptop without having to actually put it together. Prices seem very reasonable to me on first glance. Unfortunately I probably left it too late, selling my MSI was a spur of the moment decision, so I need something someone has in stock nearby as I leave Tuesday. Might see if they can deliver Monday if I order tomorrow morning.
Currently also looking at mini PC's, as I will be getting a monitor anyway and small ones can easily fit in luggage. Also the black HP Spectre x360, which is thin, fairly light and can be used in tablet mode, so it would replace all 3 of my devices (tablet, notebook and workstation laptop). I like to spend time looking so I get the best device and deal- will post the winner of best 4K portable computer when chosen.
Might wait though because I checked Mac prices in Singapore and they are way cheaper than in the UK: for example £4,049.00 for the most expensive Mac Pro in UK and £3,409.57 in Singapore (approx 15% cheaper). Would rather steer clear of the c*nts at Apple though until I settle down and get an iMac. They leave people in the lurch all the time with their updates e.g. my spare monitor doesn't work with Macbook Air anymore and thousands have had the same problem for many years with no help from Apple. Microsoft make stupid decisions but I always find a way around them eventually.

Edit: Found the perfect laptop: Dell XPS 15. 1TB SSD, 32GB RAM, 2GB 960M GPU, i7-6700HQ. Same screen size as my big MSI, but feels more like the size of a 13" Air. 4K touchscreen too.

benymypony reacted to hyalinejim in How to get the GH4 to look like the ARRI ALEXA?
That's quite a provocative question, but I like the way you think! Theoretically, it should be possible to get the GH4 to more closely match the Alexa. This is what I would do.
    1. Shoot in 10bit V-Log to an external recorder
    2. Use LutCalc to generate a VLog to Alexa LUT, to get the Panasonic gamma and gamut into the Alexa range
    3. Shoot a colour chart with a GH4 and Alexa (this is the hard part) with the same exposure. Then bring both into Resolve. Apply the VLog to Alexa LUT to the GH4 shot and adjust the hue and saturation curves so that each square on the aligns with those in the Alexa shot, as seen on the vectorscope.
Using this kind of method I've got my XC10 to match my 5D3 MLRAW almost perfectly, both shooting a colour calibrated version of C-Log. That's not entirely dissimilar from what you're talking about. OK, they're both Canons but actually the colours coming from each of them were actually quite different.
Maybe you can find a shot of a chart shot on an Alexa somewhere and exactly replicate the exposure and lighting on your GH4. Good luck and don't forget to post your results when you succeed!

@benymypony for 550$ I am doing it for free on my 3m boom pole (which I do for years and years now anyway with gopros) and buy a used Phantom!
Seriously, it is a great accessory, but rather on the expensive side, still a great buy for some. Small cranes are very cheap these days too (from 80-200$) and can achieve great motion.

I have an actual photo of a Sony engineer testing the A7SIII E.F in beta mode.

Here's a Sony engineer running away from the scene after testing the 4k60p. The battery was short lived and went brightly nuclear shortly after, that's why they call it Elephant's Foot.
Jokes apart (although Chernobyl is no joke), I love, love, love my RX10II but I rather complement it with a GH5 than a small battery, 30 mins limited, tilty screen and who knows what limitations more, one SD card a7siii.
