To be honest, thinking about it it shows how excellent the GF lenses are. The panasonic not only is a 188MP image, it's a a 188MP RGB image with every pixel having all the information for red, green and blue. That the Fuji is as close as it is, is a statement to it's quality.
If the rumors are true and the GFX gets multi shot as well, I can't imagine what the quality will be like. Dpreview probably has to reprint it's target at a higher resolution ?

Well good for them. Now they might want to put those sensors into actual freaking cameras so it can be good for us!
Time has been long. A7SIII and A6700 are way overdue.
There is an event with new Sony camera announcement confirmed for July 17, let’s see.
Also on July 11 sigma will  announce some specific Sony FE lens including a 35mm 1.2 and a 14-24 2.8. Exciting.

LG G8S promises seamless zooming using all three of it's camera modules, with no discernible switch between them. No video sample yet, but this an important leap for smartphone tech. Now, if only every module had that 48mps sensor, that would sweeten the deal even more.

I think the whole world needs to wake up and understand depending pretty much on China to make their stuff is a huge mistake. I am not talking as a personal insult to China. I respect what they have done. But the whole damn world is putting their eggs in one basket here. Nations are loosing their national identity, people out of work. This is leading to a F ing total disaster. You can't have one country making everything and the rest just going belly up, and not abide by the rules.
That is the trouble with this crap. Trump is just a small ass piece of all of this. Britain is just about to be a nobody country soon. Other European countries are nearly in a worse shape. This is all some serious shit. South America is going to shit also. It Ain't going to get better keeping it the way it is. This has no good end without some big ass change. A hell of a lot of countries are to blame for letting this crap happen.

JurijTurnsek got a reaction from Kisaha in Huawei P30 Pro may be the last, as Google suspends business with Chinese smartphone manufacturer
There must a Ferengi Rule of Acquisition that goes something like "nothing is for free"? USA outsourced all the manufacturing to China, because it was cheaper, while their loose regulations worked their workers to death and heavily polluted their environment. This was a strictly a business decision (fueled by capitalistic reasoning) and they full well knew that their IP is or could get stolen. Their businesses choose to do that (still do).
Now that China has enough educated and talented engineers who are surpassing their USA counterparts, USA is trying to harm them back. Looks like DJI is the next target:

I am very surprised about big tech companies not lobbying harder to fight this.

Apple and Google phones don't real generate random numbers, which are necessary for secure encryption. Government backdoor right there.
I am sure these US bluechip companies are thrilled at the empty order book thanks to Donald Tit.
Intel for example is set to lose potentially billions of dollars over next few years in lost Chinese orders.
That Trump has so many people believing in his business skills is a neat trick. Unravelling the entire US economy is his other lesser known neat trick and this is the start of it.
Huawei can afford to lose Qualcomm as can other companies. Snapdragon is replaced by Kirin 980 already in the P30 Pro and many other handsets and I can personally vouch for how fast it is. However, if the Chinese wanted to withdraw a few services.... Let's say "manufacturing"... Where does that leave important US tech giants like Apple and Google? What if Foxconn closed the order books on those companies? And on RED?
A trade war is like any other war. Nobody wins.

DJI never had to worry about water resistance and heat dissipation, so entering the action can market would not be a simple R&D project. It does not make much sense, because they cannot use the same cameras one their drones and the action cam market is already very saturated. It does not make sense economically for them and they are not drowning in cash after their supply chain affair.

They probably don't. It is either the beginning of their career and they have build up their reputation or they have day jobs. Once they become too expensive, another up-and-coming player will take their place. Hopefully, they haven't quite their day job by then.
At the end of the day, the marketplace can only support so many full time professional videographers and there will always be a need for "just good enough" amateur jobs. Speaking without any statistics to go on, videography is more accessible than ever and more and more people try to make a living doing it and that is why there has been a more vocal outcry about the diminishing prices of jobs. If a reasonably good videographer was hard to get, prices could be higher.

JurijTurnsek reacted to newfoundmass in Why Sony is not rushing with the A7S III
I think the delay in the A7Siii is obvious: the expectations/market has moved in a direction that outpaced Sony's tech and they're playing catch up. Last year was a huge year. Panasonic was still riding that GH5 wave for most of the year, until they announced their full frame camera. The full frame mirrorless announcements from Nikon and Canon. Nikon and Fuji made HUGE steps in their video capabilities. At the beginning of the year the A7III looked like a real impressive camera (and it still is despite its flaws) but by the end of 2018, not so much. Heck, the GH5s, and all of the new full frame mirrorless cameras even made their low light performance look less impressive: maybe not as good, but definitely in the ballpark.
In a sense, they're probably not lying by saying that it's simple to add 4K/60p but to DO 4k/60p with their current mirrorless tech probably isn't so simple without overheating. The longer they wait though the bigger the expectations are going to be. It's not an enviable position to be in. At this point they're going to need to release something ground breaking because they've got a lot of companies gunning for them, and they're all very capable foes.

APS-C is still vastly outselling any "halo" FF product line, so most consumers don't even want or need FF as of now. Kudos to Fuji to committing to them. Let the PROs pay out of their pocket for the premium bigger sensors.

For me, shooting in 4k is all about archiving. I film a lot of interviews with musicians, actors and directors. You never know what future standards will be, but shooting in better than todays accepted standards can only be better for future distribution.
This also includes home videos with the kids. When they're older, I want to embarrass them in front of their partners in as much detail as I possibly can. Every visit.

You're right it's not, but there's also not that many unique signature styles in cinema, neither in skate. You do something and people just compare it to something else someone already did. Having a totally unique style of work in this age is almost impossible in any field.
It's also just far easier to do something that has a certain look or style in cinema because it's totally scripted and pre-conceived, a work that's usually planned over many years down to the finest details.

Yes, French Fred is highly regarded in skateboarding and is credited with inventing the "skate-by zoom-in shot", which he did on the VX1 coincidentally. I think there was a tour video where he was actually repairing a VX1 on his own.
His work obviously left a mark outside of skateboarding, since Leica choose him to do a video for the release of Leica SL:
The other such a luck guy was a former PRO skateboarder turned photographer, Arto Saari (shoots with Leica S3):

I'm not a skater and haven't really seen many skate films, but pretty interesting to see some of the history and the impact the VX1000 had.  One talented skate filmer/photographer I have come across who takes some great stills that appeal to non-skaters as well is Fred Mortagne 'French Fred' www.frenchfred.com

Seriously, the Alpha team is going to be sour about their software features used on a tiny smartphone sensor? That is really not their true competition. Maybe they could get some super fast and convenient HDR processing from smartphones in the know-how exchange and we'll all benefit from it. If they have had collaborated before, Sony's smartphone business could be doing a lot better.
