The cameras with the most mojo Ive had have all been low cost and much cheaper relative to the new releases. So it absolutley isnt a correlation between mojo and price imo.

    1) Several. And its not so much the camera imo as the camera and lens combination.
    2) Sensor and lens combination. So it includes sharpness/lack of sharpness, colours, rolloff, DR, sensor texture, curve, rendition, etc and so forth.
    3) Very little and it requires to much work imo. Better to get it right in camera.
(All of the above is imo and according to my experience.)

I agree with you about costs. I spent a ton of time and a ton of money trying to find the right camera that fit my needs and non-traditional way of shooting narratives.
After a dozen sub $1000 cameras I ended up trying the XC10... which I loved but the depreciation was way too much and way too quick for my budget minded way of shooting.
I tried the Pocket and the Micro but both are not really suitable for run and gun. And to make them suitable required me to use Micro 4/3 lenses... which I hate.
So on a lark, I bought a 50D and fell in love with Canon and ML Raw. But that camera is a pain for Raw video for narratives... so I tried a few other cameras and inevitably saved up for a 5D3 and I couldn’t be happier.
But the 5D3 is big and as you know, Raw video takes a lot of storage. So when I was cleaning out an old hard drive, I found a bunch of old tests and although the resolution of the various 4K cameras I owned “looked” better... my favorite videos were made with a Canon camera.
Seriously I liked my old t2i videos better than I liked the G7 videos. Obviously Panasonic makes a great product but I just find I prefer Canon video... I enjoy that soft and flattering shallow depth of field more than I like tack sharp wide angle shots. Also I find the Canon looks more cinematic.
So, that’s why I would choose the M50 over the G7 or the G85. Also I want to start doing more stills and the appeal of the aps-c sensor suits me more than the Micro 4/3. But for the occasional 4K video... I can deal with the crop. But this is just a casual camera for hobby shooting, so for what it is, it could be great. Of course I probably won’t buy one until they drop below $700 or a lot less... so who knows what will be released by then.
But if I was trying to make a living with video, I’d honestly buy an 80D until I could save up for a C100 II. That camera is just a workhorse and would pay for itself with a couple jobs. I work in the trade show industry and nine out of ten times, the videographers on the show floor are shooting with Canon DSLRs or C100s. It’s only on web forums where those cameras get looked down upon.
I’d love to know how you make a little extra cash? I’ve been thinking of ways to recoup a little of the money I spent over the past couple of years but I wouldn’t even know where to begin.

And thats for creating content for Netflix in 4K. To aired on netflix is another deal.
A great feature Ive watched more than once on netflix was shot on in good old HD with a 5Dmkii, standard video. And it looks fantastic.

Definitely a case of crossing that bridge when you come to it with regards to what to use when commissioned for a Netflix Original production.
The only Netflix spec that I have to concern myself with meeting is the £7.99 a month payment

No its not bad. It is market value. Its just that market value has gone up at the rate of specs the last few years.
So the "cheap DSLR revolution" isn't exactly around anymore. This cost about the same as a pro video camera did back when the revolution started.
We started using cheaper cameras and then started asking for more features in them, features from the expensive cameras.
And the companies gave it to us, the prices to

And it sometimes seems like we still think we are using cheap cameras just because they are hybrids or still cameras.
But in reality plenty of pro video and cinema cameras are cheaper these days.

    Just thinking out loud.

To be fair, Sony have been listening and their latest gen bodies/batteries are narrowing the gap between consumer/prosumer.
Also instead of cutting off a bunch of features and pricing the cam at 1400/1500. Sony actually gives you a lot of their flagship specs for "only" $2000.
It's a smart strategy. People think they're getting a bargain when they are going to be spending a lot more for the entry-level model than previously.

@CastorpDefinitely agree about frustration / confusion.
So many people seem to see cameras as being as good as their best spec, and ignoring the weaknesses of a particular camera, but I think the opposite is true, a camera is only as good as the weakest feature it has that you use.
I bought a the Canon XC10 which was almost universally hated because it didn't do anything spectacularly well but also didn't have any amazingly bad weaknesses, and yet people rave about the GH5 when I eliminated it immediately as it can't be trusted to focus.  Partly this is people having different requirements (eg, if you use manual focus), but also it's due to people not taking into consideration the practicalities of real-world use.
In purchasing my setup for my own personal projects I eliminated so many cameras - even if a camera shoot RAW 16K in 16-bit with 20 stops of DR it would be useless if it can't reliably focus (GH5), or ran out of battery (A7SII), or its really heavy and you're too exhausted from carrying it to use it (complete BMPCC rig), or you get hassled by security or they won't let you in the venue because your camera is too large for working without a shooting permit (C100), or you don't have it because it's too expensive and you can't afford it in the first place (1DXII), or many of the above (1DC, Red Raven, URSA mini, Kinefinity, Digital Bolex, etc etc etc...)!

99 times out of 100 the purple grid disappears when you full screen the original image. Just like the BMPCC.
I have only seen it on size compressed windows or in screen grabs. Never after exporting and full screen, then it magically dissapears.
I wasn't even aware that Fuji officially ever acknowledged the issue. Which firmware update did they mention it?

Look guys, every sub $1000 camera has handicapped 4K. Panasonic has a crop, albeit a smaller crop, but it’s a smaller sensor. Sony has overheating or time limits. And Fuji has time limits. Canon has a larger crop but it also has the highest bitrate 4K in the sub $1000 market. There are concessions to be made in the sub $1000 market. Hell, Panasonic’s entry level camera doesn’t even have manual video.

Did anyone read the NFS article? Because it was hardly praising of the camera, other than the title... which easily could have had a question mark at the end.
The most positive statement and thesis of it is quite simply that this could be a sign that Canon is ready to embrace 4K in future models. But it went into complete detail why this variant is flawed.
Either way, I don’t think any filmmaker is going to be duped by this camera but it still looks like a fun, cheap hybrid, for stills and casual video, to me.

Yes. Thats exactly what is allowed. But you didn't live by that standard. You ridiculed people's personal opinions and tried to push your own opinions as facts. If thats not a fanboy its at least the closest thing to it in my book.
And please stop dragging me into this conversation. Im done since long ago, you made my ignore list same day as I encouraged you to use it on me. But like I said earlier, I will check in and I will react to cheap shots.

If the digital bolex came as a black metal box with lots of cool looking holes and grills, was called the DB Ninja and had a free pair of throwing stars included it would have been wildly popular like some other manufacturer that will remain nameless.

my point exactly, however, i am not sure the list was that constructive at all... as yet again he berates Fuji ergonomics even going as far as "to encourage photographers to think about whether an aperture ring is really more efficient than a thumbwheel" which indeed should be perceived as flaming since the aperture ring (and ISO/SS dials which he also likes to complain about) are inherent core elements of the Fuji X system. the list also suggests "Fuji might have made better use of the LCD screen real estate" as I believe the LCD icons are too small for his eyesight (?), yet he disregards H1 addressing that with the new top sub-monitor giving clear settings info (even when the camera is off!) and allowing the back LCD to be clutter-free. the rest of the list "reminds", "speculates" & "alerts"... anyways, I just find it all reeks of negative bias, and has all been stated over & over which is why i called him out on that..
must agree this thread is definitely a dead-end mess. SMH

Of course bugs and bad testing is not acceptable. I can easily name plenty of things which I think suck and should be improved on my X-Pro 2.
I think the list that jonpais wrote now in his last post was constructive. The earlier repeated posting about how the manual controls are not right is ok to say once but when it’s repeated again and again it can be perceived as flaming. I mean I wouldn’t post repeatedly in a GH5 thread how the camera is broken because it doesn’t have an aperture ring.
    Ergonomics are subjective.
Therefore a variety of designs is a good thing.
One of the things I’m most excited about in the XH1 is the option of linear manual focus. Finally. The other is the supposedly shortened lag when the camera switches between finder and screen. I find this intolerable and therefore mostly have my camera set to “viewfinder only”.
