in the lens dept the samsung has the edge.  the canon L lens designed for 24x36mm and without being corrected for the cover glass of a digital sensor used on aps-c will struggle to match the optical resolution of the modern samsung lens which has a greater resolving power into aps-c (2x the Lp/mm).  I think some of the contributing factor in resolved detail is actually in the glass dept.

The NX1's iso performance is actually not that bad, only at extremes and I think this is overstated.  If you need it, sure high iso is important. Many have noted that the performance between 100 and 1600 is virtually the same, which is where many will live and shoot.  Latter firmware may have actually improved it according to some.
When I watch this below, I am seeing lots of resolution, not so much over sharpening.  That said I do believe the NX1 could do with lower sharpening levels.
Actually I know a lot about lenses, its been my life for 35 years,  But to satisfy some before I sell the A7RII I will shoot a comparison with the same lens,  It will have to be a Nikon because that's all I have that fits both.  Funny thing is the IR filter is there for Video and its still there for Stills and the 24-70 is razor sharp in stills?    Must be some voodoo magic happening? :-)
Saw the macro blocking n the NX1 and yes the Sony out performs in this area, but replaces it with outhr sensor based artefacts  like noise, so which is better?  I suppose it's up to the individual.
No Chance of Macro Blocking here :-)  The Samsung just recorded the detail while the Sony thought it was not important?  Or maybe you will say I misfocused?

GH4 has much lower detail than the NX1.
I agree with you though, the Canon colors are great, but I find the NX1 very very versatile, its easy to grade and look great, however, you need decent lenses...most of the footage I see are shot with the kit lens, this is probably due to the bad marketing, and with the kit lens, it makes the camera look close to what an Iphone @ 4k looks like. Pair it with decent lenses, and you have an amazing camera, that can look filmic or not, depending on what your needs are.

Just did a long 4K recording run to test for overheating. Inconclusive as the battery died at 28mins
    Will try again tonight.

So any news yet on the overheating? Maybe someone with the camera already can give it a whirl.

A late response but i shot a wedding this summer on the NX1 with a 12.000 mAh USB battery. No problems what so ever during the 7 hour shoot and the battery lasted all day.

OK, I tested the camera, shooting non-stop for 3 hours, immediately restarting every 1/2 hour with each time limit. Quite amazingly, the camera showed zero signs of problems (was barely warm) and probably could have gone indefinitely. Also, you can use the USB cable for power if you need. Bottom line, NX1 should work fine for arbitrarily long shoots.

Guys, I was asked if I can cover a 3 hour indoor stage event shoot. It has a series of performances, each separated by a brief (1/2-1 min typically) breaks, but is otherwise continuous. Is it possible to cover this with NX1, stopping/starting during the breaks? I also have NX500 that I'll use as second camera.

Michael, I got my nx1 in June and have really enjoyed it.
I haven't gotten any of the NX lenses, but I do want to get a few of the pancakes.
I've liked this camera coming from the d7100.
My d7100 has served me really well, and continues to do so, but the nx1 just has so many things that the d7100 doesn't that it really is fun to use and really does feel like an upgrade, in terms of features, usability, and footage.

Pretty much all my lenses are Nikon, at least my big prime and zoom set, and they work great on the nx1, although my 11-16 vignettes wider then 13mm or so.
My 7100 had some banding too, mainly in the shadows. It doesn't look good when it shows up, It hasn't been an issue 8 out of 10 times, but when it looks ugly, it looks ugly.
The nx1 hasn't shown anything like that, but I haven't really put it through the low light ringer.
I use Rocky Mountain converter and haven't had any real issues with converting, and recording UHD and converting to 1080 looks gorgeous to me.
One thing I really love about the nx1 is how long the battery lasts in it, even when filming UHD all day, a battery will last me the entire day and only be around half drained.
I really like this camera and the features you get for the money are incredible. Transcoding the footage has been blown out of proportion, it really isn't that big of a hassle for me.

The transcoding pain will soon be over, Premiere is getting support soon.

The DR, is quite fine for me, I upgraded from the canon t3i, and it was a huge dif. You just gotta protect the highlights, apart from that, the NX1 has the best video quality i've ever seen/worked with (I've worked with 5DM2, T3i, D800, Nikon D7300 and a few others). Im fully confident this is the best video camera around for the price range.

    Basically this.

The Nx1 without a doubt the best IQ out there unless you go for an FS7 / 1DC and higher range cameras, it is trully outstanding. I too was set out to buy a GH4+metabones for over a year, but then I discovered the NX1 and read a bit more about it, ended up getting the NX1 and am currently editting my first official job with it, so far Im very very impressed. Its incredibly versatile, you can make it look cinematic or video'ish

5D3 is still an amazing camera, with or without RAW.
For Video i'd recommend the NX1 instead of the GH4 though, much better image, cleaner, and now that Premiere will support h265 native, the workflow will become much simpler.

Seems to me that GH4 always had a huge noise problem. I interpreted that as "faking dynamic range".

So V-Log just makes that worse :/ But will be curious to see more results, and test some more - especially with the "legit" version (if it really changes anything...)

I do wonder if the reason it's a paid upgrade isn't so much about making money but that it's tricky to use well and if they gave it to everybody there'd be lots of people saying bad things about the GH4. Hence this way they restrict it to people who might have a vague clue what they are doing...
I do like the free trial option though, as I was very 50:50 on whether to just stick with Cinelike-D. Also it looks like there are some things needing sorting in another firmware version (e.g. histograms, zebras) so they should be able to charge all the people that seriously want to use it at some point and as a bonus not leave people who don't like it feeling slightly ripped off.
