There are great design cues and inspirations for the new pocket or micro body.
I see some of this and wonder why the new pocket looks they way it does!

Three months ago I was salty about not getting a Micro 2. Now I'm ready to upgrade just for that 4k60!

Hey @John Brawley can you pass feedback for future cameras? Me and some happy BM owners would love to see a Micro Pro with a positive lock MFT mount, SDI out and swappable rear battery plates. I know we are a niche market but those things would make the Micro v2 epic.

I don't like external recorders much from an ease of use perspective, but you don't have to convince me when it comes to the image being very nice and there are circumstances where the external recorder helps. It's weird since it varies between shots it seems if it helps a lot or a little.
A stop more highlight detail would be nice, but it's still leagues ahead of any dSLR I've used, and not too far behind an A7S. At $1999, I think the original is a steal.

Definitely done in post, look at camera movement near the end of the camera flip. This was shot wide and cropped into.

I think it was more the idea that he did it handheld in a line that made it cool. Vx looks awesome.
I can't tell if this was done in post or not, definitely done way before the Colin Reed video though.

I have seen similar shots in camera with just a handheld move, just spin the camera on your arm. Not as great as the Lakai video offcourse, which is indeed a phantom camera with a bolt probably.

If you ever done a trick on a skateboard, timing is everything. A single flatground trick lasts less that a second and the duration of the clip.
The degraded IQ (zoomed in?) and Ty Evans' general affliction of all new gear, I would imagine he used a Phantom camera. Spinning that beast with exactly the same speed as the skateboard, triggering the spin at the exact same moment (we are talking miliseconds here), while nailing the manual focus seems highly improbably.
There is the 1% chance it was done this way, just because a professional skateboarder would be able to a few hundred takes with such a basic trick if needed.

I heart my C100 mk 1. Still the most cinematic image you can get for the money. Dslrs and Mirrorless cameras just don't have the same level of richness and depth to the colors.

The lowlight at the time was probably quite a bit better than the RED offerings.

It would be the last camera I might want for Doc stuff LoL Heck I want a Canon C300 mk II or a C100 mk II at best for Doc work. GH5, ehh not good enough AF for me at that task.

I always hear comments like this, but I’ve never heard an actual story of anyone having a “it was all blank sorry” moment.  This seems like the modern equivalent of forgetting to load a card into a digital camera. You’d have to either have very serious mechanical error, severe under exposure, or be uneducated in the process, all of which are preventable... especially since the room for error with negative film is extremly high.
I recently shot a short piece on a Bolex Rex 4. The scanning prices have dropped recently and the 4k scans available now are really nice and affordable.
ProRes LT to Vimeo has worked pretty good for me in the past. Film grain holds up really nice in my experience.

Sorry, not trying to derail this thread. I just want to mention that it is neither THAT expensive or difficult to shoot film. Grain holds up fine on Vimeo.
@kye - Thanks for the kind words. The WB was done in post. Half of the footage was summer and half was winter, so I wanted to separate the footage with color. The entire project was scanned to flat log 2k on the Scan Station Scanner.
The rig was just the Bolex 16mm with the gun/trigger grip. I have a Super 16mm version but we went with the 4:3 because of the wide lens look and choices with that ratio. I've been skateboarding for about 16 years, so just me rolling down the street. I did a bit of warp stabilize here and there to help it out, (which works way better on film because theres no rolling shutter jello.) What you get in a bolex is pretty amazing. Slow motion, single frame, long exposure, internal slot ND, etc. The camera was really built to be used for quick setup and just getting shots. The pan up from the water was done deliberately, but everything else was just made in the edit. Thank you again for checking out the project.

Out of likes. That was some really great footage you produced, not counting your skills on the skateboard.
Now if I won the Lotto I would buy this one.

    And cinema ain't real life.
FPN, chroma noise and rolling shutter make film grain look far superior.

Only Alexa's digital noise comes the closest to film grain, the others have blotchy, chromatic unpleasant noise patterns, even uncompressed

I suspect most of the people that said no have not used a Canon camera with DPAF. Having this feature does not mean you have to use it, but on a gimbal it sure helps keep the weight/complexity down.

Yeah but what is crazy is that this film is in a way is so bad it is good. it's up there getting looks. So hey, what the hell LoL.

I am not sure where to put this lighting video. But I guess here is not the worse place. I found this video using 2 damn small Aperture LEDs. I don't see how a person can be without them to be honest. They are that handy for something you can have in your pockets.

    Art vs Engineering.
When the purpose of something is to please the senses, then Engineering can help to achieve that, but often Engineering runs away with itself and forgets the end-goal.
I believe that every decision about a concrete aspect of film-making (the way a sensor responds to light, DR, shutter speed, colour balance, frame rate, audio frequency response, music pace and style, the words in the script, the costumes, the hair / makeup, the objects on set, etc etc etc) has a subjective impression associated with it.
The 'art' of a film (or how good it is) is down to how well each of those decisions were aligned with the overall goal of the film.
For example, if you were shooting a futuristic sci-fi, using 8mm film, poor audio frequency response, period costumes, classical music, etc would be a terrible choice as these are all aligned with a period piece.  Similarly, having loud heavy metal music, desaturated cold colours, overall low-key high contrast lighting, aggressive characters, etc would make a terrible rom-com, but is a good starting point for a horror film.
Those who understand the aesthetic associations of their tangible decisions made throughout the creation process will do well in creating a finished product where the elements contribute to a coherent and powerful final experience for the audience.
Engineering is providing us with options to control aspects of the process, Art is choosing from those options.

Nah, a hobbyist would have used a slider, drone, and some sort of other unnecessary tool.
This is well shot and very intentionally feels candid and on the fly. Any cuts would also ruin the feel they are going for.
