rndmtsk got a reaction from matthere in GH5 test footage - Post it here!
Don't know if this was posted elsewhere, but certainly not in this thread. Some technical limitations seen with AF and IBIS if you look closely, but a really nice quality that shows what you can get out of V-Log.

Looks great! I think it's so funny how far cameras have come in 5 years, yet the complaints compound even more. "Yeah it's HD 180 frames per second in a handheld camera with a 5 axis stabilizer, but....."

Mine came in last night. 1tb HD, 2.9ghz CPU, 460 GPU
Only bug I've encountered was an annoying thing with the touch bar where the volume slider wouldn't come up. That required a restart to fix. Pretty much confirms my concern about the potential for touch bar to wig out. What happens when escape won't work when you want to force quit? I've defaulted these keys to their standard control strip functions for now anyways, with fn key to pull up app specific commands. These app commands are cool but not exactly revolutionary.
Keyboard takes getting used to but don't think it will bother me after long. Main annoyance is just that escape key. I wish it was a real key. I use it while editing and on top of not being able to feel it anymore, they've slid it inward a bit so it's not where your muscle memory would have you think. The larger trackpad is nice but can present a challenge while typing because my standard resting position for my hands puts my wrists squarely on the trackpad. Seems like they have the finger detection pretty well in tune because I'm not actually ever accidentally moving the cursor with my palms, but it still seems weird resting them on the trackpad while I type.
Other than the one time the volume slider was weird I haven't encountered any big red flags. I was able to get Adobe Suite CS6 installed after jumping through some hoops and everything is running smooth. No problems cutting in Premiere or encoding with Media Encoder so far. None of the crazy haywire graphics thing. Will report back when I have my monitor in and test further with that, as I believe other graphics card issues popped up when driving a monitor. It also required jumping through some hoops in order to instal the ProRes codecs I walk around with because they've locked down changes in the System folder (I think this was true on OS 10.11 too).
I've been hanging onto a 2012 MBP with DVD drive for a while and thin as this is it doesn't feel particularly lighter. This just reaffirms my wish that they'd made it a bit thicker to put beefier battery and graphics under the hood. Also. Like. Card reader. WTF.
All of that said, it's fast, it's quiet (fans, not this effing keyboard), it looks great (space grey all the way), I can see where the universal plug thing will be great one day in like two years (plugging in power from either side is def nice but still maybe not worth the tradeoff of no MagSafe), and I've been able to work with 4K H264 footage natively without any problems.

I did also... So I bought a maxed out Surface Book. Then I tried to use it to edit some 4k video. After that I packed it neatly back into its box and returned it. The SB is a nice computer, and I much prefer "Hello Windows" to Apple's "Touch ID". But when you buy the Mac you are paying both for hardware and well optimized software. And the latter justifies the price. That said my fully spec'd MBP late 2016 model has been on order since the 15th of November, and it still reads as "Processing" at BHPhoto. Would love it if I had some clue when I might actually receive my unit.

    Let's have it out!!!
Following on from Ed's thread about Trump here are my thoughts:
    1.
How's this for cruel irony - Both Trump supporters on the far right and Bernie supporters on the socialist left believe the same thing. That Hilary Clinton and Tony Blair are war criminals responsible for massive civilian death tolls in the middle east and the rise of ISIS. Actually the war started because of dictatorships there and were escalated under two US presidents both with the name Bush, furthered by decades of repression and poverty in places like Afghanistan. If anything Obama and Clinton tried to deescalate it from the Bush eras. Much as I love him, Bernie depressed the turn out for Hilary Clinton more than anyone else. His wide support is the primary reason Trump is in power, ready to join forces with Putin and accelerate the bombing of civilians in Syria. Young liberals eat up paranoid conspiracy thoeires and fake news just as much as those on the far right because we're living in a highly partisan post-fact virtual world where the truth is too complicated for a Facebook headline.
    2.
There is nothing wrong with democracy and here's why. The majority of people are now politically ignorant. They cannot be bothered with it. Therefore it follows they should get a president of the United States who is equally as politically ignorant. Look at this from the New Yorker magazine - "A voter with more knowledge of politics will, on balance, be less eager to go to war, less punitive about crime, more tolerant on social issues, less accepting of government control of the economy, and more willing to accept taxes in order to reduce the federal deficit. Voters ignorant of economics will tend to be more pessimistic, more suspicious of market competition and rises in productivity, and more wary of foreign trade and immigration"... Which camp do you think Trump and his voters fall into? Trump is economically as ignorant as you can get. Despite employing immigrants he sees immigration as bad for the economy and despite making things in foreign countries and importing from them, he sees foreign trade as bad for the economy, and despite being married to one he sees immigrants as bad for the economy and despite being born to one he is in favour of mass deportation. The US economy is going to go to shit. Could it be that Norway has a more politically astute population? They have a good economy, stay out of wars, are more tolerant on social issues, less punitive about crime and accept higher taxes.... It all comes down to how much interest people take in politics, instead of snapchat.

I cant agree with your analysis, Ed.
There weren't many landscape shots in Ex Machina but the ones that were there did advance the story. Usually with the character going to or from places. And usually creating a contrasting edge to the clean, highly technological interiors.
Ex Machina is about the tipping point between being a robot and human, and how other humans would interact with them. The fact that they are sexualised humanoids works well with the story because we humans are more inclined to build a rapport with attractive members of the opposite sex. The inventor in the movie is also a needlessly buff, handsome guy but I don't see any complaints about that?

rndmtsk reacted to Chrad in Coppala's "Little Fat Girl in Ohio That Brings Down the Movie Business and Turns it into Art" is Kung Fury
With the exception of the gun being fired down the phone (stolen from Danger 5, a much better low budget retro-genre inspired work about cheesy heroes fighting Hitler, and it has dinosaur-headed people too), all the best gags in Kung Fury fit in the initial 2 minute trailer. And they worked much better in that context.
Kung Fury is nothing more than a technical showpiece. The script is built on the premise that gore, swearing and pop-cultural pastiche is endlessly amusing. If you told me this was written by Seth MacFarlane, I'd have believed it.
I suppose Kung Fury could be thought to have a more realised world than Fury Road if by 'more realised' you mean, 'more locations', but that's about it. The attention to detail and art direction in that film brought a believable and genuinely original vision to the screen. Kung Fury is an amalgam of the last decade of 80s parodies, thrown into an ultra ironic 'anything can happen!' universe. There's no real narrative to ground the nonsense (unlike Danger 5), and genuine wit is almost entirely absent. Better characters? What characters? There is no humanity to anyone. The characters have so few distinguishing features that they aren't even clearly defined as comic archetypes.

Kung Fury is lazy, coasting by on its concept. Fury Road is one of the most brilliant pieces of fantasy filmmaking to make it to the screen in the past decade. One is seeing a brief burst of viral interest, and the other is going to be talked about for many years to come.

Isn't the whole argument against Blackmagic that it takes a good colourist to make the footage look good?

I think it's horses for courses really. Blackmagic cameras aren't really suited for run and gun whereas the Panasonic are. They may not have as much dr as the Blackmagics but I've found they have enough to create really nice footage in most conditions. And in the end I think that content matters most, and so usability is key to me.

Just like the previous post from Ben said. Do you have any idea how much time was spent developing your product?

If you feel it's unethical to differentiate products solely based on software, then that means you feel that software has no value. Software is intellectual property that breathes life into the silicon your camera is made up of.

Also look at it this way, do you have any idea how expensive it would be to bring a product to market without the substantial leveraging of previous hardware? The price of the F55 was set at is based off of the quantity of F5 units they hope to sell so they can leverage quantity buying power (+20 points of cream for their troubles).

In other words, if they couldn't make the low end camera off of the high end one, they would have never made the high end one, because there's just not enough buyers to get an ROI.

Companies do this all the time, they just aren't stupid enough to leave the workaround accessible in cleartext!

As these user names seemed familiar to me, and I felt I had seen useful and helpful post from these guys in the past I decided to see what kind of trouble the were causing.

Of baltic's 8 posts I would consider 7 o them to be helpful normal discussions, this being the only exception.

And of Nog's 13 posts I didn't find any that were looking to cause trouble, the were all offering opinions, help, or information. This was by far his most troublesome post.

Baltic's fanboy comment was out of line and I don't agree with telling someone what kind of videos they should make, but is that single post ban worthy? As for Nog, unless you removed all of his troublesome posts so I was not able to find them he absolutely didn't deserve getting banned for that statement. Do you really feel that is trouble making?

I am a huge fan of your site and the work that you do, I check in here almost daily since it is one of the best sources for information on anamorphics which is a large interest of mine. But I have to say that banning these individuals, especially Nog in this way is more damaging for the community than anything they did. Am I missing something here?

Well, Ebrahim, Thank you for your general life advice, although it felt patronising in parts. but that's fine!

A Community is exactly what Andrew has created. I have followed him and enjoyed his reviews since the beginning of his blog. I have also enjoyed some of his shorts and purchased two of his books.

I will not denied that Andrew has done a great job. But what I will not accept, is for people to be banned for emitting their opinion on his short film. I don't think they were insulting at all, clumsy at best. I even sensed, taking into account Andrew extensive knowledge, that they were probably expecting something more meaty from him, and that I believe is their right.

Some directors, that I hold in high regards, have produced some poor films. I glad they didn't ban me from watching the rest of their body of work.

Andrew's action were extreme. We should all learn one pure truth. you cannot please everyone and that's that. Now let's accept it and move on, because the subject of acceptance is wild and wide, and unfortunately only too few really care or respect it.

I can't talk about over threads, but in this Thread those 2 guys were giving their opinions and frankly I think they had a point. I'm not a fan of that video either, that does not make you a rubbish filmmaker. You just made a piece  that some like and some other don't.

That you have anthropomorphisized a perfectly good descriptive word is why I'm not going to talk to you any more about linguistics. Please re-read what you wrote - you defined dull as lack of interest and then called Bay's shots dull because every shot has too much interest. That's why it's important to not attribute human feelings to words, it gets confusing.

The raw looking camera moves actually didn't bother me as much as the pretentious gimmicky concept, or the lack of one. They used all kinds of visual tricks that have been done many times before but with no story line or main concept to guide them, it's all kind of random, trying to be Michel Gondry but lacking his genius, since his visual gimmicks always serve and fit a story or concept.

But hey, it's got millions of views, so I guess it did the job!
