The thing is, if they DO fix this and own up it will be a fantastic camera and many many people will instantly forgive them.

If there is indeed a hardware problem such as the LSI running too hot or certain parts of the chip not turning off when idle, then Canon may have originally developed this kind of temperature monitoring system to keep things in check.
But the fake element of it is that the actual temps my camera is reporting are nowhere near problematic and the recovery timer is completely out of whack with both ambient temps and the actual cool down temps of the electronics.
So it is likely they found a convenient outlet in the temp management system for a classic Cripple Hammer.
I want answers from Canon and I will be seeking them starting tomorrow.

EOSHD testing finds Canon EOS R5 overheating to be fake, with artificial timers deployed to lock out video mode. In this test, we will probe my Canon EOS R5’s actual internal temperature in Celsius, as reported by the firmware.
This week CDA-TEK and I are developing an Android app for the Canon EOS R5, which connects to the camera via the Canon API...

They go for some nice money. Selling it could fund a Samyang 135mm F2.0:)
@noone This lens comes under different labels such as Weltblick, Porst, Beroflex. Just like Samyang going under Walimex, Rokinon... There are a few jokes about this bulky beauty on the German gentleman forum. They are not gentle about some lenses, after trying so many of them.:) Now, very exited to see that Promura to see some light. Would be cool to see some footage, if you can find time.
You sound like some of these German gentlemen lens afficiandos:) I dare you to not mean it as a joke! 🙂

    Wow.
Looks like it might be a great candidate for modification and adaptation.
In this case, modifying it by taking out all the insides, sealing it up, and adapting it to be a photography-themed wine goblet!

    My old Promura 135 1.8.
It lives with a protective filter on it and in its own case so it has hardly been out of the case for years.
The layer of crud is not anywhere near as bad as I remembered and I guess the lens is just not so great to use.
    Excellent poser value though!

The Canon 135 f2 L I had was wonderful (and even though it is an old lens, auto focused ok depending on camera used).
I actually still have one of those old 135 1.8 lenses (mine is a Promura) and it is a very impressive lens to look at and hold...using it? Not so much (though mine seems to have a thin layer of gunk on an element inside probably because I think a previous owner tried to clean it).
I have had it for decades but not used it for years now...will have to see where it is.
My pathetic little brain has actually started thing I might try and get one of the f0.95 Voigtlanders just to try and use on my A7s both FF and APSC with clearzoom if necessary.......does anyone know how much of FF they would cover? (my 50-200 four thirds lens covers apsc entirely).
This ancient battered 20-35 2.8 L Canon lens would need a 10-17.5 1.4 lens to give a similar look with M43 and it is coming up for its 31st birthday in January (from the date code on the lens).   Despite its looks, it still works fine (even AF) though I use it MF on my Sony).

    That is evident.
Ah so it's ok then. The whole release is hyped as an 8K pro video tool with 4k 120p but because Canon slipped some best-case scenario disclaimers into a CVP video, they're off the hook!
The real overheating data should go something like this:
    8K from cold - 20 min if you're lucky
    8K about 10 mins into a shoot - 10 mins maximum
    8K after a few stills - 5 mins
8K limit after a few stills and the Wifi menu - 0 mins!
And the marketing should say something like:
"Getting through any kind of video shoot, even filming your pet poodle for 10 mins with the powerful new EOS R5??... You'll be lucky!"
That would be far more honest in my view.
But yeah, no false advertising!! Did you actually READ any of the PR or Canon website?
WHY DO PEOPLE NOT READ OR LEARN BASIC FACTS BEFORE SPOUTING OPINIONS???
“On the set of high-end productions such as commercials, dramas and documentaries, the EOS R5 is an ideal partner to the likes of Canon’s brand-new EOS C300 Mark III”
“Set to redefine mirrorless, today’s update confirms the incredible recording capabilities of the EOS R5 including internal 8K RAW up to 29.97fps and suitability with high-end production workflows”
“The EOS R5 boasts features seen only in high-end cinema cameras many times its price point and video features no other mirrorless camera on the market offers.”
“Created as a direct response to growing demand for content creators to shoot both high-quality film and stills, the EOS R5 holds its own as the lead camera in productions – going over and above industry standards and achieving outstanding 8K.”

    Yeah sure. Sure it does.

Right! For FF the Walimex 135mm F2.0 sounds right for rather little money. Not up for battle though:) Such a kewl review for that beautiful Voigtlaender. Doubt the Samyang has a review going like that. Vintage lovers, beware of the vintage Porst 135mm 1.8. The people on a German gentleman forum put out a warning for it due to its lack of quality. They call it a doorstopper for a reason.

Oh EF is a "dead mount" too!

Not sure which will last longer, EOS-M or EF.

Arguably EOS-M is the newer mirrorless mount thus as a longer lifespan. But I doubt that, I think EF has quite a few years left up its sleeve, just because of the massive user base, and especially pros on the high end will still want to keep on seeing pro work horses being made for a few more years for EF mount.

I'd give it a good 50/50 chance we'll see a 5D/6D-ish level replacement within the next few years, and that at least one more 1D series will still come out.

Yup, the moment a RF APS-C camera/lens comes out then you know the days for EOS-M are becoming very very short indeed.

Don't forget they are still putting out EF mount cameras and lenses too (and more so than M mount) so I can not see how they will manage THREE current mounts in a (rapidly) shrinking market.
I guess the test will be how long it takes to put out RF mount APSC stills cameras and appropriate RF crop sensor lenses.

your not alone, your never alone.  Not sure where i saw that... now. If its a lens test or similar i'll watch it in 1080 which probably equates to two or three items a month, otherwise its 720 for any tutorial or youtube that i want to enjoy. I try real hard not to watch anything on a lower quality setting, after youtube compression which has basically murdered anything sent it way, i find my eyes don't really thank me for watching anything on a lower quality setting anymore. Which has in turn made me more discerning about the content that i do watch.
Pretty sure on my internet plan anything i upload counts towards data used. So it would be kinda pointless and masochistic of me to upload 4k, not to mention slow. So i kinda settled on 1080 already, but thanks for the effort by the way, at least you post results to back up your statements, personally i am finding a lot of opinions finding their way into youtube without the visual evidence to back things up at times. Maybe i grow both, cynical and blasé perhaps.

The way I see it, this forum has played a major role in how huge hybrid cameras have become for actual filmmaking. That happened because Andrew and others were finding workarounds and solutions to these small cameras most Pros would never use on paid productions. Yeah theres always gonna be opposing views, and brand favorites but it's easy to recognize a hater.
That Nezza is talking more about "Canboys" than the R5 itself... LOL

Everybody here agrees that the R5 has overheating problems, but whether or not it's a deal breaker depends on the users usecase. For me, the R5 seems to offer something very useful and I have therefore ordered the camera fully aware of the overheating. It seems like this makes me a canboy from your point of view, and you seem to refuse to acknowledge that the R5 might work well for users with different needs than you. My last Canon camera is the 6D from 2012 and I own newer cameras from both Sony and Panasonic. The R5 will enable me to retire my Sony camera and 6D, while my GH5 will cover the the cases where the R5 falls short.

From the moment RF Mount has announced (if not even earlier!) then it was crystal clear that EOS-M is a doomed mount that Canon will "eventually" (we don't know exactly when, but the writing is clearly there on the wall) drop support for.

    Yes and no.

As I have said before on this issue.
Think of two bottles one made of glass and the other an insulated thermos.      Pour boiling water into both of them and come back in an hour, the  water in the glass will be at room temp but the water in the thermos will still be hot.
Now put them both out in the direct warm sun and I will bet you the water in the glass bottle heats up again while the thermos will not be affected.
Now if there was a heating source IN both bottles, AND in the sun, the glass would have the heat from the sun AND the heat from within while again, the thermos would only have the internal heat.
Think of the Sony as being the glass bottle and the canon as being the thermos.
The Canon will never overheat because of external factors but seems it WILL overheat due to internal camera generated build up.
The Sony seems  good at heat management at least from internal heat and maybe in part BECAUSE it can get out of the camera but that ALSO means it can get in in some cases.
That is why I think it is possible that the Tilta thing might actually work BETTER on the Sony but will also hardly be needed on it.
Remember too that all those peltier type coolers that are insulated boxes can be reversed to warm food as well as cool it.
