After a long time, I finally produced a new short movie. This time with the Sony FS7, probably not the last time. Coming from a RED Epic, I have to say: The dynamic range is incredible!
Shot in CineEL S-LOG 3, 4K 24P. Color graded in Davinci Resolve. Only used small LED lights.

That's some fine lookin' stuff right there.

I looked at a bunch of your other stuff too. I think this Lens-Lut combo is a real high-point.
The stuff with the Samsung lenses is unbelievably sharp and clear, but at times almost feels too sharp...know what I mean?
Those AI-s lenses are still sharp, but I don't see the almost distractingly sharp edges to things.

It took about a year to make.
The budget for the shoot was about $25K, includes permits and crew getting paid a bit.
A couple regular kinos for this but mostly practical lights.

New short film from Macgregor shot on Sony F35 is simply mouthwatering. I dare to say that I haven't seen anything better imagewise in digital camera world, but I have to admit that great grading also helps in this case.
 

I'd probably have the FS700 / O7Q combo in there too.... When you think what it offers up, it is very underrated and the raw image can be very beautiful. I saw a kit for sale for under $4k recently... 4K/120fps/raw for $4k, genuine bargain.

Yeah, lifting the levels should be done in post if preferred -> lower banding!

Imo nx1 could be much improved via a fw update implementing higher bitrates and better encoding algorithm. If I shoot a still at iso 6400 using raw, then apply slight nr and enhance sharpness a little bit in lightroom, then resize it to 8mp (4k like) I get a much, much better image compared to a frame grab from 4k video at iso 6400.

Also I work with professional cameras, NX1 is has nothing similar to RED, SONY, ARRI, PHANTOM, etc.
 
You perceive "digital sharpness" and mistake it for resolution/dynamic range. Personally the NX1 imo has a horrible image and I haven't seen even one good narrative done on the camera. I would rather shoot on a 5D before I pick up and use an NX1.

That's an interesting way to describe it. In terms of look, I'd say it has a detailed 4K image with a natural look to sharpness, silky smooth tonal transitions, and strong accurate colors. Skin tones look wonderful, but nothing at all like Canon--more neutral, accurate and (imo) cinematic without falling into Sony sterility. It's a very sexy image. 

The GH4+4K recorder combo is a beast! I can't think of anything else with this form factor that can match it on image quality or price:performance ratio.

Th BlackMagic video assist is pretty neat. I hope they add a few hundred to the price and do a 4k version of it too.

I have just released a Setup Guide for the Samsung NX1. This guide makes the camera compatible with a range of LUTs so you can more easily apply stylistic moods to 4K footage in post.
Along with the LOG conversion workflow, the guide explains the best settings for the NX1 and what you must know before using it for video work.
The Samsung NX1 is one of my favourite cameras for video and the 4K image quality is simply the best you can get for the money right now.
I have been hard at work on a guide for a while now. This is essentially a 'brain dump' of everything I know about the NX1.
It is an all-in-one reference so you no longer have to search forums for the information and the 12 page arguments that goes with it.
The LUT and workflow included with the book, I am particularly proud of. This converts footage shot with GammaDR on the NX1 to ultra-flat LOG in post. When used with a transcoding app like EditReady it creates 10bit ProRes with a Canon LOG style gamma curve and saturation. This allows you to then apply a LUT in your NLE such as the excellent DELUTS range from James Miller. The whole process is made easy to understand in the book and the camera becomes so much more fun for colour correction as a result.

Still haven't had time to shoot anything for more than 30 min. Hopefully next week.
So I took it for a quick run when I went to the store.

Wanted to see how the XC10 worked under really bright conditions in C-Log using just the built in ND. 
The C-Log has a base of ISO500.
No highlights where blown when making this video.

Worked with red epic since 2012 a lot of times. But it didn't look like cheap canon DSLR footage...
 
The C300 mk2 footage looks great to me though. But XC10 simply isn't worth its price and easily outperformed by much cheaper cameras!

I'm inclined to agree with tugela's appraisal of the camera for the most part.  Most of these shots were over exposed and relied on the auto focusing system to pull focus.  I wish I had more personal time to shoot on it during the wedding vs the lesser experienced shooter because if not properly exposed the footage will be softer than normal...but not h264 soft.  You have to set the ND filter and then dial in the exposure and ISO and it's not intuitive.   It's no where near as sharp as GH4 4k footage.  I also agree with the Johnnie Behiri review of this camera in that you have to fiddle with it to get the best footage out of it.  I don't dislike the footage but I definitely would not recommend it as a primary camera.  

I recently started editing some projects from start to finish in Resolve 11 to get ready for 12. Really looking forward to it.
