  1. For the weight, size and this one feature 👇 I would sell my S1 and get the S5

    [Anamorphic 4K] 3328×2496 (4:3),
    29.97p, 150Mbps (4:2:2 10-bit LongGOP) / 100Mbps (4:2:0 8-bit LongGOP) (H.264/MPEG-4 AVC, LPCM)
    23.98p, 150Mbps (4:2:2 10-bit LongGOP) / 100Mbps (4:2:0 8-bit LongGOP) (H.264/MPEG-4 AVC, LPCM)
    [FHD] 1920×1080
    59.94p, 100Mbps (4:2:2 10-bit LongGOP) / 100Mbps (4:2:0 8-bit LongGOP) (H.264/MPEG-4 AVC, LPCM)
    29.97p, 100Mbps (4:2:2 10-bit LongGOP) / 100Mbps (4:2:0 8-bit LongGOP) (H.264/MPEG-4 AVC, LPCM)
    23.98p, 100Mbps (4:2:2 10-bit LongGOP) / 100Mbps (4:2:0 8-bit LongGOP) (H.264/MPEG-4 AVC, LPCM)

  2. Question for S1 owners: I'm testing the Timelapse features and wondering what the bit depth & colour space is for video file created in camera. I used to have to import all files in Lightroom, do adjustments then export to folder then import to Quicktime then export as video file.

As I'll be mixing the timelapses with V-log 10-bit 422 footage shot with same camera it'd be nice if video file created in camera has same properties but I'm guessing no as options are only resolution and frame rates.

Or, anyone know an app where I can read video properties?

    Thanks

  3. Hey Andrew when did you make the claim for the upgrade? I just made mine today and it said it could take up to 28 days! I had no idea they'd be sending it out in a an actual packet!  I imagine all claims will be checked individually by 'hand', I mean how many man hours does it take to validate all claims considering all units sold plus shipped out. Unbelievable they don't have a more efficient method of doing this.

Careful there, that's got grey import written all over it!

How/where did you do this exactly? I thought it wasn't being released until July 31?

In case you missed it elsewhere, here's the link:

    https://promotions.panasonic.co.uk/promotions/promotions/view_terms/299

Go to Claim Now and follow instructions. You must take a photo of sticker on your box with serial & model no. etc and also upload a copy of your receipt of purchase. It says it could take up to 28 days to receive it though.

I'm curious if anyone has tried or seen footage of someone using the 6k/4k photo mode in 4:3 on the S1 for some full frame anamorphic. I played around with the photo mode this morning but I don't have any anamorphic glass or adapters.

The S1/S1R 6K Photo is actually 3:2 instead of 4:3 like the GH5/G9. Choose your anamorphic glass accordingly.

You can choose 4:3 in 4K or 6K photo mode. Here's a short vid using 4k Photo mode with 4:3 aspect ratio, Mamiya 105mm and Möller 32/2x Anamorphot. There's no colour correction just very slight exposure adjustments on a few different picture profiles.  It would be nice to get 25fps (or 24) atm it's 30 or 60p in 4K and 30 in 6K. It would also be nice to have HLG for this mode. Also, I wonder what bit rate and colour space the file records at in photo mode, anyone know?

If it can do 4/6k in photomode at 30fps 4:3 I don't see why anamorphic wouldn't be possible with a FW update.

Andrew writes For anamorphic users there is a 5K H.265 video mode in 3:2 (and I believe 4:3 as well) Isn't this anamorphic mode in all but name? Anyone know how many fps it is?

I am also hoping to use it on my Moller 32/2x. I will use a 72mm front clamp with a 72-58mm step ring.

You mean to attach the Proto to the Moller? Why 72mm?

Rectilux is doing its thing. waiting for my hardcore DNA :glasses:

When will you be getting yours, is the next batch available? I've tried writing a few times to John for info without any response.

  8. I haven't heard of ProtoDNA and I can see (after googling it) that it has Rectilux's name emblazoned on the front so I assume John has had a hand in the design? Can you tell me more about it? Are you involved in the project? I'm guessing that because you refer to anamorphicstore's Rangefinder as 'junk' and seem a little disparaging about it, you might have a dog in the race. Do you have user experience with the Rangfinder? Also, ProtoDNA's minimum focus distance is 0.7 whereas the Rangfinder's is 0.3, that's quite a margin. ProtoDNA's $495 price is a bit more palatable tough to anamorphicstore's $649 (it's inexplicably gone up this past week from $599).

I wonder if either will fit my Moller 32/2x, some footage with proper focus pulling at different distances would do these products the world of good otherwise trust issues arise.

I have the dirt on this guy.  Definitely look for a different eBay seller.

I came across anamorphicstore on eBay while searching for single focus solutions and he has a premium optics version of his Rangefinder. All his feedback has been positive with one in particular saying 'incredible quality' so why can't I find any reviews of the product online and what dirt do you have on this guy? The video associated with the premium Rangefinder looks good but there seems to be only one focus pull (@1:18) in the whole video! https://youtu.be/n4tFj5a9-5g

Anyone know what Rectilux is up to? I see very few updates from them.

  10. I recently took the back element off my Möller 32/2x to clean the fungus from the inside and outside. I realised outside surfaces have fine cleaning scratches and would like to find a lens polishing service that could just make it all go away... Does anyone know of such a service in Europe? I was quoted by one source £400 per surface! This included recoating but then again, do anamorphic lenses have a different coating than normal lenses? My previous version had amazing blue flares, will this affect the lens having a different coating? How will they know what type of coating goes to this model. I'm guessing it has just one coating, not multicoating.

Also, on replacing the back element, being anamorphic do elements front and back need to be 90 degrees to one another ie. back: ⊂⊃  front ? ? According to my kowa, they do. How to align properly, will it distort image if I'm off slightly?

    Thanks

  11. Anyone here know of a lens repair place in France, Belgium or the UK that can rid an old anamorphic lens of fungus and fine cleaning scratches? One that specialises in the polishing of optic elements.

Has anyone successfully done this DIY, how hard is it?

    Thanks

  12. Hello ana-scope lovers,

I'm selling my Möller Anamorphot 32/2x and Rectilux 3FF-S. This particular Möller is hard to find especially in such good condition. It took me over a year of searching (on and off) to get one in this condition, it looked like new-old stock when it arrived and had been stiff to turn as a result of sitting somewhere unused for years. I regreased it (when used in the olden days of double focusing) but not really important now as you'll have it set to infinity and using it with the Rectilux 3FF-S. The Möller is known for its sharpness and crazy blue/purple flares!

The Rectilux is also in great condition and I've regreased it also as there was some slight vibration when focusing when I first got it so now nice and smooth. The Rectigrip included, I cannot recommend as it put a small dent in the barrel of the scope when tightened and also hard to gauge if front of taking lens is making contact with back of scope. There is a minuscule mark on the coating because of this but barely noticeable. I only noticed it when taking macro shots to sell the scope so I'm including an excellent Redstan clamp that does a brilliant job of holding it in place and prevents elements from making contact.

Also included are a Coupling Ring which connects the scope to Rectilux, a custom made lens gear for the Rectilux 3FF-S from Helicopter Sean and a thicker custom 3D printed pitch gear for your follow focus because of the long focus throw in and out. A PDF of Rectilux 3FF-S also included and a clamp most likely used for scope's original purpose and could somehow be integrated into a rig set-up, it's extremely solid.

    Price: €800

    Rectilux with custom lens gear:

Rectilux has 72mm filter thread. I have used a variable ND filter with no problems. You can also see the purple coating of the Möller that gives it its signature blue/purple flares:

Custom 3D printed pitch gear. I have basically used a longer screw and placed it on top of original gear:

  13. I have a similar question to the OP so thought I'd ask here instead starting a new topic.

I'm mixing 4K anamorphic footage with normal 16x9 4K footage from an a7rII. I'd like to know my maximum resolution I can export without scaling up.

My project settings in FCPX are 2880x1080 which will give me an aspect ratio of 2.66:1. I've stretched out the ana clips and scaled the 16x9 4K to 150%, chopping off the top & bottom.

Is my max res output at this ratio 3840x1080?

  14. A question for Lens Turbo II and e-mount users; I used the Lens Turbo II with a a6000. On my a7rII though, while using the crop mode for video, the adapter doesn't seem to fit the mount whereas it worked perfectly with the a6000 (same mount). Anyone with this set up experience the same problem?

I wondered about this also. And there have been serval discussions online. Some say it does, other say it doesn't. What I do know is that when the Video Devices Pix-E7 is connected to the A7Rii hdmi output, it detects the signal as 10 bit, and defaults to the ProRes 422HQ 10 bit for the recording.

About the 10bit external recording, did you find out if it actually is 10bit? Atomos have stated in a document that with the a7rII, it is:
