be careful of what ?  if i can acheive some thing similar i'll be happy. I know its a vintage lens and price wise its the cheapest lens, i have actually come across in quite some time.  You can watch  a bunch of youtubes on lens reviews and they'll all say they got it cheap and then you go search for it, its 4 times the price. this lens is actually cheapish even when you factor in the aussie dollar. the lens flare might be the only interesting thing in its arsenal but for me its worthwhile for its price.

It's still available. Look at Shooter's Guide menu on front page.

Have you seen the prices of Canon FD 24mm f1.4L lately? 🙂

Is it just me? But I can't seem to find my copy. I bought Andrew's guide to vintage lenses quite a few years back. In my opinion it was the best guide in this space that I'd seen. Is it not for sale anymore? Or am I just not looking in the right place? In any case, it should be on sale, and an updated version would be well received! Or are we all over vintage lenses?

Interest in vintage lenses is directly correlated to sensor resolution, so it's up up up up up.......
I saw a post the other day from someone saying that the second-hand price of one particular vintage lens had gone up 4X in about the last year.

I know exactly how this feels.
I went through a phase of suspecting that clicking on the buy button on any product on Amazon also triggered the press release for the release of the next version of it.
With regard to this new version, I'm resisting it on the flimsiest excuse of the base of the body being a marginally different size so it won't be able to fit into my Z axis stabiliser.
Of course, this stoic resistance to consumerism will likely dissolve as soon as the manufacturer of the Z axis makes a new version.

See, I knew this would happen. About a month ago I bought an Osmo Pocket, which I'm really happy with, but now this comes along. I obviously wasn't paying attention to the rumour sites. Sigh ... I'll just stick with my first generation purchase.

Yes, I agree. A little more BTS stuff would be nice. It started of well but seemed to taper off. Don't mind some of the shorts he's producing, but a glimpse into the process would add to it.

Yep, I've said it elsewhere in these forums, but I love my battered GH3. I shoot with a GH5 mostly now (and a GX85), but always keep the GH3 close. And yeah, there is something really appealing about its black and white.

    Panasonic GH3.
More than good enough. I use a GH5 now for work, but I still can't bring myself to sell the GH3 (not that anyone would buy it). Great HD, battery life still solid, built like a tank. Paired with my Voigtlander 25mm (itself battered and scratched to shit) it has a special voodoo.

Yeah, this is a good set up, but it's much better with a Metabones Speedbooster.

I'd much rather pair it with 2x teleconverter.

My dream is to keep it all in one backpack. (It never works out that way, but I see no reason why it shouldn't)
    So ...
    (gear I have)
    GH5, Voigtlander 25mm, Lumix 15mm, Lumix Nocticron 42.5.
Zoom F4, rode NTG 3 (and cable and pole stuff)
    Any small, semi-decent tripod.

    Hmmmm......  if that is so....

Then swap that Zoom F4 for a Sound Devices MixPre3!

(and I say that even as a big big big time Zoom F Series fan! Love my F8n)

I couldn't decide! Thus selected the Fuji which would be good for most work, but then if you really wanted that extra stop and a bit of light for a particular shoot then you've got the Sigmas as well!

Please excuse me while I go list everything everywhere that ever has been made.

As purely for my SOUND PACKAGE I'm going to need a truck to carry it all:

Yes, this truck.  This exact truck.

    I'm not even joking.

My only worry? Is that it might be too small!

I've already posted Alex Proyas' Youtube channel in the Youtube channel thread, but I reckon this latest development deserves its own shout out. Will be very interesting to watch this unfold. It also seems apparent he's going to be talking a lot about cameras, Blackmagic in particular.

Probably lots of us do camera tests, but who does experiments?
    Like, make a film:
using only one lens (or with that crazy lens) only looking up / down with no people with only people walking away with only peoples faces only close-ups non-standard compositions (mostly sky and everything in the bottom quarter of the screen) multiple shots at the same time (eg, like Sliding Doors, or 24) strange speeds, like all footage is sped up or run backwards nothing is in-focus no dialogue dialogue without any pauses in-between start with music or soundscapes you've never worked with and shoot something to match them etc and by 'make a film' I just mean take a bunch of shots and put them together, it doesn't have to have narrative or anything.  I guess in a way these might be experimental or even abstract films.
I'm thinking about doing more of these myself, just to do things and see what happens.  Explore new angles and ideas.  Learn how they feel and what they do.  It's only trying new things that we can find things to add to our normal style.

In terms of the sound world, the Zoom F4 is still very young!

I feel kinda guilty myself in upgrading from an F4 to an F8n then a Zaxcom Maxx so quickly!

Have used a Tascam DR60Dmk1 as well (it was what I had owned as a film student).
Then went to a Sound Devices 552 / Tascam DR680 combo, then the Zoom F4, each step along that process from the DR60D was a BIG STEP UP!

You'll not regret the F4, is like night and day vs a DR60D in terms of all of features / ergonomics / quality

I also really like the "dark" shots (like 1.44). We're always talking about dynamic range, and IQ etc etc, but sometimes it's all in the shadows. In the murky bits. Makes you look harder.
    Good stuff.
