a lot of discussion happened on this thread. not sure about most of those questions personally, but near the end (like page.. 14..) there are some custom flat profiles graded and ungraded, I believe.

It sounds great, but after my recent experience with my A6000 I really hesitant to buy a new Sony again.
My A6000, after a year and a month (of course, never withing the warranty time), started behaving crazy. Now, most of the time, I can take a picture or two, then none of the buttons work, none of them. I tried everything but no luck. The customer service didn't help much. The worst thing is if I want it repaired from an authorized center I've to ship it to Connecticut, and the average cost of the service it's around $250! On the Sony forum they just don't respond.
So, after this experience, despite the new A6300 sounds really exciting, I think these companies should give customers a better support, but they actually don't care because people keep buying their stuff.
Sorry, this went a little OT, but to me a new camera also means think for a moment about their support, because theoretically any new camera can have issues.

Touch screen on the A5100 with face tracking is mean as!
Why not?? I'd rather spend more on lenses than the body, as that is what will last longer.

Heres a sample video. Another one of those cliche scenic videos with lame music.

After using the PDAF on the C300 II, peaking and manual focus is way too slow (and clunky) compared to full AF with face tracking (works amazingly well). For manual focus, PDAF assist is superior to manual with focus peaking. For live, unrehearsed shots, PDAF is amazing and peaking isn't useful. A full 1080p display and viewfinder are more helpful for fast, accurate focus vs. peaking in my experience (peaking is based on contrast/edges and is not always accurate or easy to see).

Not sure how many of you are Reddit fans, but there's a subreddit called Writing Prompts. People write short stories and they get up voted based on how good they are. There's been a few good short films actually shot from these stories like this one: https://vimeo.com/84707835
Even if there's a story that's good but needs some tweaks, I know alot of the writers would work with you if you have a good portfolio.
Just throwing it out there if you're not a talented writing like myself.

Did lots of lens tests today during our morning walk. Haven't edited, will probably use it for a review. But I puled some frame grabs.

You should do all of that. Just don't call it a smear campaign. You're telling the truth, it's not a smear.

I have tried every single email address that your company has provided.  I have posted on Facebook many, many times and I have emailed the addresses provided via the Facebook interactions.  NOTHING.  I am beginning to lose my patience.  Ball is in your court.  You can either send me a working replacement, refund or I make it my mission to lead a very public smear campaign against FilmPower.  I prefer a working replacement.  I really do.  But you guys are bringing this on yourself.

I  dont trust the NYTimes either. Or any major media outlet in America for that matter.
I think most crew members would be pretty happy with $600 a day. I would be.

Maybe we should listen to both sides of the story and make our own minds up without changing our minds about the people giving each side... or demonising one person or the other. Maybe it's possible to separate a standpoint from the person making it, you know, like in the old days before the internet.
Unions - in the UK politically these are quite militant. They're so powerful they have a big sway actually in who the Labour party (our Democrats) elect as leader. For two successive leaders they have elected completely unelectable people who they think can look after the interests of the unions, even though they're completely out of touch with the voters and have no chance of putting the party into government. I think union leaders have a lot to answer for.
In the case of B&H I don't know enough about the politics of it all to comment... I just want the best for their workers and for the company to treat them fairly.

In another thread, you admit and encourage documentarians to use storytelling in their work, but in this instance you take articles written by The New York Times and Al-Jazeera at face value. You have bought into this notion that big business and law enforcement are the "bad guys" and the common man are the "good guys," that's cute and all, but the world is a little more complicated than that.
And if it wasn't for the photographers that make 50k a day, there wouldn't be $600 a day jobs for his/her crew... Which is an AMAZING days pay by the way.

No offense, Ed, but if you aren't an expert in these matters, perhaps you shouldn't be passing judgment. Posting an opinion (what your gut tells you, as you put it) as fact is both unfair and dangerous. I don't doubt your sincerity at all and applaud you for the passion, but I'd hold back if I were you. Hit pieces like this aren't too different than posting publicly that you suspect someone's gay because he kind of looks gay to you.

Got a great deal on a new BMPCC during a Black Friday sale for nearly 50% off. It's my first Blackmagic camera (I have the Micro pre-ordered) and have been eager to pair it with the Trump lens set I ordered from Richard Gale. I took possession of the set a couple weeks ago and have started shooting a short film with it. I love the versatility in terms of contrast control (from standard to ultra-low) and the variety of aperture discs. The 2x and 3x ovals are my favorite. Made a quick comparison of the two here.
But this week I finally started shooting a short I've wanted to do for some time. I work professionally as a freelance editor so this project is being done as schedules allow. Shooting RAW has been an eye-opener for me. For the last year I've been trying to wrestle a GH4 into being something it just wasn't capable of. And have come to the conclusion that I should have traded 4K for color science and dynamic range a long time ago.

They have unionized because they voted to do so last November. The vote was conducted under the supervision of the NLRB whcih found no evidence of any interference up to or during the vote by any B&H employee.
I'm sure you understand and appreciate that we value our company-employee relationship as much as our company-customer relationship. We cannot have one without the other. They are intertwined and both must be in balance for us to continue our uninterrupted 40+ year history of success. I am only sorry you were exposed to an innuendo-filled campaign of inaccuracy on the part of those who wished to "persuade" our employees the union is in their best interest and who are willing to misrepresent facts about our employees and their work conditions to unsuspecting customers like yourself.
Our workers have the right to vote on whether or not a union will represent them. We would not and did not do anything to impede their right to this vote which was held during November.
Regarding the allegations of health and safety conditions, perhaps this will offer a different perspective: http://on.fb.me/1N5rsWI
There is no asbestos, no lung-searing clouds of dust, no flakes of fiberglass peeling off the ceiling. The restrooms are as clean as those in my house. There are no "substandard conditions." The employees are not, as has been widely reported, “undocumented.” Our warehouses have been inspected by OSHA several times recently, each unannounced and unscheduled. We received no fines or warnings or recommendations to make any changes at all. Other than take-home pay, every B&H employee, including the warehouse workers, me and my boss, get the EXACT same benefits.
There was a fire near, not in, our warehouse. At the time the NYFD specifically asked us NOT to evacuate our workers for two reasons – there was no need to do so as there was no danger at all from smoke or fire, and the evacuation of several hundred workers into a relatively small and confined space would have severely impeded the NYFD’s ability to deal with the situation safely, effectively and efficiently. What you read was hyperbole and fiction designed to cast negative aspersions on us.

If you haven't already, post this to their Facebook account too. If they're like most companies nowadays, a phone call gets you nothing, email gets you nothing, a Facebook post gets your problem solved.

Avril Lovin - I received my nebula 4200 Pro in December.  It worked just fine at first but then it began to behave erratically.  I noticed magnetic metal shavings increasingly coming from one of the gimbal arms.  One of their customer service representatives sent out parameter updates and after I installed them, the unit is completely unresponsive.  Now one of the arms locks up and will not move. Customer service was responsive for a short while but now they have ceased communication all together.  This unit needs to be replaced immediately.  I expect instructions for how to get a working gimbal from your company promptly.
