  1. MATLAB runs on Linux as well. But yeah, would be a totally weird choice to run on a camera. (even though I'm a fan of MATLAB myself! Spent many many many many many hours with MATLAB. Not quite sure what was the earliest version I ever used of MATLAB, but it must have been at least MATLAB 6, maybe even MATLAB 5. And now I'm starting to show my age.... Edit: heh, I just remembered many years ago I even used a super ancient version of MATLAB, maybe was MATLAB 4 or even MATLAB 3?! Because I was running a physics experiment which the program for gathering the data only ran on a particular PC which only could have that much older MATLAB installed on it. Fun times)
  2. DR can be a tad subjective, depending on how you measure it, and RED are well known for overstating on the generous side their DR
  3. Wow, through product testing beforehand by them! :-o Not :-P
  4. And that is exactly why the Alexa LF came out
  5. It is not just about frequency, they still need to offer something in terms of content. A person could upload hourly just white noise, and it would get them nowhere fast
  6. Hopefully Nikon enters mirrorless with a bang this year Agreed! So glad that finally finally FINALLY Nikon updated the D300. About time.
  7. Yup! Some YouTubers punch is so extreme is must be like 240p or worse!
  8. What about the new Kinefinity announcement?
  9. Sometimes I'm surprised the a7S isn't banned from being exported because it has military technology in it :-P What huge beard? I didn't see one in the video If the price is a "bit high", maybe he has one he can sell us cheaper? Why don't people on dpreview rip into him every time he posts?!
  10. Thanks Mark, lots of solid points there for Godox Illustrates how time and experience with a camera can matter even more than the camera itself.
  11. And RED is no longer alone in the "greater than 4K" market, as Panasonic, Kinefinity, & others have offerings in this niche as well.
  12. I did buy my Nikon D5200 mainly just for video, and I'd half sort of consider the D7500 too (once its price comes down).
  13. All Nikon FX cameras (unlike Canon...) have a DX mode. haha
  14. C1200/C300 are a different kettle of fish to Canon's HDSLRs
  15. The reason is Canon NEVER intentionally sparked DSLR filmmaking, they stumbled onto having the crown of the #1 choice for DSLR filmmaking entirely by chance it sometimes seem. Remember how the Canon 50D was a whisker away from having video in it. But was only thanks to Nikon introducing video in the Nikon D90 that Canon felt that they had to respond with their own HDSLR camera. (because Canon and Nikon watch each other like a hawk) That crop is waaaaaaaaaay worse! As the 5Dmk4 has no way to easily handle this crop, as the EF mount means no access to native mount lenses designed with that crop in mind, and also no focal reducers can be used. Canons (unlike Panasonic) have historically been known to overheat.
  16. I was hunting for a Neumann 185 for a while, got close a few times! But ended up with an AKG Blueline in the end: And now since then already upgraded to the mic above it from AKG! But still waiting for it to arrive from Oz
  17. And that is why it could be a good thing to point out the flaws in Canon and drive away potential buyers from Canon. As likely Canon will only come screaming kicking to the table to offer us more, if their bottom line gets hurt. That is what is need for them to jolt awake and pay attention. Indeed, and that is what allows a greater variety of companies to thrive rather than just one monopoly.
  18. They have sold in past cameras for as cheap as US$2.5K But going "mass market" opens up a whole new can of worms, so they might not want to go down that path of radically cheaper prices than even that. As it is, Kinefinity is already very very cheap! Their most expensive camera is more or less the same price as the cheapest new RED.
  19. Because Panasonic/Sony/BMD/Kinefinity/etc on a per $ basis do far less "crippling" than Canon does. So yes they segment it a bit, but at least even at the lower / mid range of their selections, you're getting far better value for you $ than the equivalent priced one from Canon. Canon is a target of bashing exactly because of this contradiction of them being the #1 camera company and being poor value for money due to holding back more than others do. (am sure if Canon was say #6 ranked player in the market, then no one would give a flying hoot, and we wouldn't see the "bashing" like we do now in forums) Exactly. I've sometimes felt that Panasonic's camera division is a bit like the mainstream version of BMD.
  20. Conspiracy theory alert: Arikhan started this rumor purely because he has a heap of NX1 bodies he wants to offload on eBay at the highest prices possible! ;-)
  21. Do we can't lav mics, or on camera mics? (Rode VMP etc) Anyway, if we count only XLR mics, then somewhere very well north of a dozen. Easily. Nooooooooooo! That sucks :-( I was just tonight watching a TV doco about mail and it getting lost. Was watching it half in shock, at how useless the Royal Mail are. Yet it is fascinating, because over the years I've worked for every express courier company (except Pace) in Auckland (of those which are big enough to use bike messengers, as there are a few others as well but they're so tiny they're not worth mentioning if they don't have a bike messenger). And for *all* of these courier companies (except Sub60, as their management then was incompetent) I was working on pure commission (I simply got a percentage of each delivery that the client paid the courier company, nothing more, nothing less. As simple as that). The difference between that vs the heavily union controlled Royal Mail is stark! (although to be fair, they are two different but overlapping industries: express couriers vs mail delivery) Amazing what working for commission can do as motivation to work to your maximum efficiency, vs what a union can do to destroy a working environment.
  22. Hope Phillip Bloom does a Part 2!
