  1. It is quite tempting to get the FS700 to play with. (pity it lacks TC)

What is Panasonic going to be showing? Check out the Kinefinity booth too!
  3. Exactly. *NOW* they are. But easily for the majority of Apple's history the iPhone (or iPod) hasn't been their core revenue.
  4. Guess we need to ask a kid about. (who was just "borrowing his father's account"...... sounds familiar?) Really? As the HS-P82 was pretty much the lower end for its time, guess Sound Devices etc never made any traction even in pre recession times?

My bets is on the FS5mk2 being capable enough to "replace" the FS7. Sony has a history of not "protecting" their upper end camera lines (not like Canon does). Remember how pissed the FS7 itself made F5/F55 owners? (and heck the F5 itself annoyed F55 owners when the F5 got 4K) Going further back the dirt "cheap" F3 annoyed a few F35 owners who paid through their nose for the F35. (ditto the FS700/FS100 arriving after the F3 for the F3 owners) Heck, the F35 itself annoyed some F23 owners because of how quick the upgrade cycle was. I see no reason at all why the FS5mk2 couldn't have all the key FS7mk2 specs but at a lower cost and in a smaller form factor. (win-win!) Having something extra over on top of the FS7mk2 as well, perhaps IBIS? The FS5 (like the C100 too) is designed as a small handheld camera so IBIS would be very nice indeed
  6. Ah cool, I discovered a new website! Thanks
  7. Seriously? You don't know what company I'm referring to? Oh dear, now I'm feeling really old. You don't have to go that far back in history..... Wow, Apple has never been in the business of anything else?! (as more than just a "side show") Yeah, I'm "old". Either that or a historian.
  8. Shows how subjective all this can become at a certain point, as for example a youtube commentator on that link said: I wouldn't agree. But shows it is in the eye of the beholder.
  9. What small niche kind of shoots are you doing that no one else is doing that makes rolling shutter such a "huge" problem for you specifically?
  10. People will say the C100 "grades well" too..... That would mean a hell of a crop. I'm just surprised Canon didn't let the C200 have an HD 10bit codec option. Just like the FS5 from Sony, it has 4K raw external + 10bit HD internal, which means it is a pretty capable camera but still clearly a lower end choice to their FS7

    NAB 2018

I hope there is a Zoom F10/F8n/F6/whatever in the pipeline, but I won't be holding my breath. Got hope that Roland or Tascam might decide to enter the fray again, they've been missing in action for a while or fallen off the pace lately. And who knows, maybe NAB 2018 will throw a surprise at us and Marantz might make a go at the prosumer market with a F8 competitor after bringing out their Marantz PMD-706 (which might be the best sub $300 recorder at the moment?). Or a complete odd ball surprise such as Atomos/AJA/Blackmagic giving it a go at making an audio recorder and leveraging their years of knowledge in making recorders already (but totally different kinds of recorders).
  12. Can't? Perhaps pick up the BMD Micro Cinema Camera for now on the cheap, which can do FHD 60fps Does your office have a C300mk1 or mk2? Am hoping for a URSA Micro Pro! ;-)
  13. Here is another, he is good, thanks, worth watching:
  14. So would having a box for genlock make an image more "cinematic"?
  15. Which forum was that? Yeah in some worlds $8K/monitor is not unreasonable at all
  16. Tascam HS-P82 perhaps? It is easy enough to justify the current equipment you own and use, but it is totally different trying to make an argument for someone else to buy it! I mean, the Tascam HS-P82 is pretty nice and decent for its time, but you'd have to be bonkers to pay that price for it now in 2018: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/657379-REG/Tascam_HS_P82_HS_P82_8_Channel_Field_Audio.html https://www.ebay.com/itm/Tascam-HS-P82-8-Channel-Field-Audio-Recorder-040/401489772557?hash=item5d7aa7c00d:g:DKEAAOSwhfdaexT0 Even secondhand, hell no, not paying a price that high for it! Which is my point, there seems to be no "secret gems" when it comes to audio recorders for film shoots, they're either outdated or/and overpriced. For sure, in the studio world I reckon more "hidden gems" exist, but that is a massively bigger world than the production sound world for film which is a smaller niche and less space for a gem to hide away in. Additionally none of those rack units need to care about power requirements, weight, or size! Three factors which are extremely important when out in the field, and have been getting much better over the years as time progresses forward. Hopefully! I feel/hope my trajectory is going in the right direction if I work at it. Am thinking though I might apply for a job at the local rental house. Could be beneficial in a number of ways, and I'd really enjoy it. hahaha ;-) And would this hypothetical person also be bringing along a handful of raw recording NX cameras as well?
  17. It boggles this young mind how it is was possible! ;-) But seriously, although the base of development in the sound department is slower than in the camera department, it is still speedy enough that it makes the much older equipment redundant if you already have the newer equipment. (such as a Zoom F4) It is like a person with a Panasonic GH5 not being interesting in a Sony FS100 or a Sony EX3, I find that perfectly understandable. And I think there are no "hidden gems" like say the Sony PMW-F3 in the secondhand sound recorder market (and if there is, I'd be very interested in hearing about it?).
  18. Not sure if I should be offended or pleased with the complement?

  20. Someone could have asked a while ago why would any one ever buy a phone from a computer company?!
  21. Dennis Hinsburg is a smart cookie, so I'd take note of what he says, and he just started a thread here about his monitors: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?359829-Impressed-with-Dell-UP2716D-vs-my-Flanders-Scientific
  22. I can't think of any non-current generation recorder that would seriously interest me (not unless at a truly ridiculously cheap price, which won't happen). Nomad/Maxx are all current generation. MixPre10T/633/664/688/788T are all current generation. Sonosax SX-R4+ is current generation. F4/F8 is current generation. What previous generation older recorder might interest me? A 744? Nope. A 552? Nope, have that already (and doesn't get used much now, although I got it at a truly amazing price).
  23. This. I'd much rather first become an expert gaffer before becoming a DoP, than becoming an expert AC before moving onto becoming a DoP. Would be excellent if more people chose to follow that path instead of going up the grind of the camera department. The Tiffen Black Pro Mist might have been the key.
