  1. I shot this on Saturday night (while drunk ish! :-P ha) with the Panasonic f1.7 lens, which I however dialed back to f2 rather than f1.7 (the seated subject wouldn't remain stationary at all! But it was more to fix exposure, as the subject very annoyingly wouldn't let me turn off a light DIRECTLY in front of him under the bench which was blowing out his very light skin): Additionally, I used a BMPCC! Thus its 1" sensor is even smaller than the usual MFT sensor.
  2. An indie film will try hard to push down that ratio to say 10:1 or less.
  3. As stills work is very much secondary for you, it would seem like sticking with your GH4 is the no brainer choice for now. Perfectly capable to do stills on the side. Pair it with say an extra AF lens or three, such as say a Panasonic 42.5mm f/1.7 or whatever it is you need to round out your AF lenses for still photography. Maybe get a few speedlites as well, such as the Godox Mini TT350O Speedlite.
  4. Sounds like the Panasonic G80/G85 is the camera for you, and you could pair it with a couple of lenses such as say a Panasonic 25mm f1.7 & Panasonic 42.5mm f/1.7
  5. He was also on the cover of the video issue of Popular Mechanics last October.
  6. Love it! As well as the benefits mentioned already, the BMCC MFT lacks an active mount, which rules out the usage of many of the native mount lenses for MFT
  7. 14mm wide enough for you? Then Panasonic 14mm f2.5 is nice!
  8. Exactly. And rumor with 0.1% chance of happening! (a probability pulled from my ass.... but likely fairly accurate ish!)

    NX1 Film

You could switch to 1080 just for a few shots if you know beforehand you'll have major rolling shutter issues in a particular scene
  10. Secondhand Panasonic GH2 SLR Magic VND FeelWorld F570 That blows your budget however.... but I don't see the point in going any cheaper. If you want to go cheaper, then you need to ditch something, be it the VND or the monitor.
  11. Did the focal reducer for NX1 turn out to be viable? If so, that. Are there focal reducers for Fuji's X mount? I assume that, if so then go for this. Otherwise ditch the obsession with "full frame" and go with a Panasonic G80/G85 for maximum bang for buck value. (or alternatively, is 4K *really* essential for the very low budget shoots? Then you could go for a Nikon D750 or Sony a7S mk2 etc)
  12. Sadly not :-( But because I got it secondhand I don't mind, I got it at a very good price! :-D Not sure..... but I'm skeptical? As I half think it might be a teeny bit too wide. It would be a close cut thing though if it can fit?? Headed out in five minutes to shoot an epic shotgun comparison for my YT channel. "Cheaper". Only if you don't count labour! As if you do, then it is waaaaaaaaay more expensive than a Tentacle.
  13. Many many people have discovered a sure fire way to kill their passion is to try and turn it into an income/career!
  14. Are you getting the original monster URSA or the newer URSA Mini?
  15. Welllllll..... most kiwis don't necessarily think I have a kiwi accent! Even though I was born in NZ and have lived here my entire life (same for both my parents as well! Both kiwis). I've done a fair few videos on other topics about sound, or is there something specific you want? To go step by step through everything in my mixing bag on a typical film shoot? Not sure if I have done that, probably should. Especially now I have the Orca OR30 bag, which makes it much much easier to show to the camera what is in it. I have been meaning to do soon a video showing how different it is now between what my bag looks like set up in the Zoom's F4 specific bag vs in my new Orca bag.
  16. Exactly. Too often I read on forums (well, not these ones! EOSHD.com is pretty awesome :-D ) people complaining they can't make a living, but no sh*t Sherlock! You can't making a living selling videos to the cows and sheep grazing in the local fields. Any specialised niche needs a certain size population to have a big enough market to support it. The more specialised the niche, the bigger the population base you need to have! For instance a soundie needs a much bigger city to live in than a general stills photographer needs. With hard graft a stills photographer might be able to make it in a small-medium sized town. (but he couldn't specialise! He'd need to take on all sorts of photography) While I couldn't survive in such circumstances, basically I only can be in Auckland in NZ. Or Wellington (or maaaaaybe Christchurch).
  17. Opinions will of course vary a lot on this point (just like everything else before as well!), but in my personal view the Ultrasync ONE offers the best possible mix of size/features/cost. However having a Tentacle or two for DSLR shoots are nice with their built in scratch mic. You might also look around for secondhand original Tentacles, as you'd just be losing out mainly on bluetooth and the "locking" ish connection.
  18. This. Too many of the old guard have failed to adapt with the times and thus wonder why their incomes have fallen off a cliff.
  19. Not exactly a gimbal, but damn this is potentially cool: If however it is capable of being used very very fast for high speed shooting? And if its price is reasonable. High speed shooting such as like this (but cheaper!):
  20. https://www.sounddevices.com/products/recorders/mixpre-10m https://www.sounddevices.com/products/recorders/mixpre-10m/feature-comparison Written up my thoughts at the end of my new blog post: http://ironfilm.co.nz/sound-devices-mixpre10m-announced-a-mixpre10t-without-the-t-for-musicians/ In short, this is not the recorder I'm seeking. And I doubt it will seriously interest anyone else in this forum. However it is still good news for SD users in general.
  21. Yup, don't follow trust kiddies "business plans" path to success if you want to achieve financial stability yourself!
  22. And be able to move around the punch in as well!
  23. If you have the budget then go for a SmallHD 702 Bright https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1186278-REG/smallhd_mon_702_702_bright_7_daylight.html But for an on camera monitor (for the op, not the AC), then I'd prefer a 5" one like the SmallHD 502 instead.
  24. An a6500 would be an even better match ;-)
