Very interesting for behind the scene experience in video, my surprise when I saw so much drone shot and thought why did they use so much drone shot in a video about Nikon. LOL. Overall colours etc seems very good. He talks a lot about stabilization in video which he says is very very good, he also says autofocus was very good even if he did not know too much what he was doing.

That guy is a Moron, he has been dishing Nikon since day one in this thread. He said with absolute certainty that Nikon will never be able to produce a camera to compete with Sony Mirror Less. That was one month ago, having not seen anything, just his analysis. As we can see today he is completely wrong, they have at least matched the Sony third gen mirrotless, but in many ways outdone it. The Z6 kills the A73, better viewfinder, better LCD, 10 bit video, build quality etc. The only thing that is still contentious is the AF which DRreview who had some time with the Beta Z7 said was better than the Sony's.
That's what Dpreview had to say "Autofocus in video is up there with the best. Tracking and refocusing on subjectives is intuitive and reliable... besting what Canon and Sony offer"
    https://***URL removed***/reviews/nikon-z7-first-impressions-review/6
And I am sure, he who has not used the camera will come to patronize us.

"One thing I did not mention is battery life. The battery read 44% at the end of our shooting which included 500 or so photos, setting up the menus as well as filming for close to 20 minutes in full frame 4k. Not sure if that is good or bad just yet but a grip is something I will def be using with two batteries."
That is a massive improvement over the US Nikon site ratings info. Looks like the Japanese site rating (85 minutes of video) is more accurate. That is quite excellent news as battery life was a massive blow in the announced specs..

By the looks of the interest in this thread, other forums, in the camera store today and some very defensive fanboys, it looks like it will be popular.

    100% right on.
Sony make a good all-rounder that borrows from everything else and maximises the specs on paper, with the largest possible sensor. Their sensor tech is excellent.
Innovation wise, there are others who pioneer better stuff, earlier on... but don't manage to put it in such a well rounded 'greatest hits' package, because they don't have Sony's R&D budget.

Its amusing to see people call any ILC that has no mirror in front of sensor, a Sony clone!
Leave Nikon aside for a moment, most of the new tech or ideas introduced in this industry in recent years, didn't come from Sony. PDAF wasn't Sony invention, they licensed it. and Canon delivered a better version. IBIS was also a licensed tech, and Olympus created a much better iteration of it. EVF wasn't new thing, and Leica was the one who showed how the next generation of it should be. in optics, m4/3 members were true pioneers, and for large sensor glass, it was Sigma who made the bold actions. In video, most of what we now consider as must-have features, determined by Panasonic. In color science, and also the joy of photography, Fuji was the real hero.
Sony is good in two segments: making sensors, and marketing. Both unrelated to its imaging unit.

Yup, Nikon waited a long time for this, they're not going to want to screw it up.

For everyone on EOSHD we should be glad that Nikon gave 10bit external and didn't cap it at max 8bit in any form like Sony.

That doesn't sound like a "Sony clone" to me.
    Nailed it.

At $1999 i find the Z6 extremely compelling.. however at $3400 i find they could have added at the very least an extra card slot to the Z7. Something tells me an Z8/9 will probably be the 'pro' models in a year or two time.
As annoying as it is, they've clearly left some parts out like mode dial, AF switch, lock image, dual card slots etc to segment their DSLRs from MILCs.
Nikon may not have a cine cam line to protect but they do have a DSLR one..
As to comparison with Sony A7 line.. well the weather sealing, LCD/EVF resolution, top OLED display, 2 front function buttons, dedicated iso button, grip, touchscreen menus, right-hand menu button etc.. do set it apart ergonomically and build wise. Add to that 10-bit 4:2:2 out, Nikon color science & potentially superior IBIS and it's a slam-dunk to me.
Canon are going to have to go all out if they plan on taking lead now..

Smell a lot as a Sony but hurt fanboy, I heard that they were the worse and I can see why. "It was nikon’s chance to release something better than Sony " so tell me where can I buy a Full frame mirrorless camera with 10 bit Slog please? Tell me where can we have 5 stop full frame ibis please. What you should be is happy because now at lease from the now you are sure that all Sony camera will have 10bit and from what I could recall was the number one request/frustration from Sony users. That 10bit is revolutionary for a full frame camera as now it makes your S-log usable and not just a marketing gimmick that is putting Log format in a 8 bit container that needed a lot of work around to be usable.  Lastly adding a 5 inch ninja V with it will make it barely the same size as a Nikon D750/D7500 camera with a flash. For a comparable set up you would need to go 30K+ for Full frame 10 bit camera and you would need to to carry something at least 5x the size and weight.
WOW, 10 bit Nlog, for me what a surpise, I went to sleep with the latest rumors being same as Nikon D850 but woke up to 10bit Nlog. I would have liked a little bit higher frame rate, but this is near perfect. The closest thing to and Arri Alexa colours and hopefully dynamic range, with good to great autofocus video autofocus with full frame esthetics. Yesssssssssssss

There is this last rumor coming out of nowhere about a future Nikon D3000 (lowest denominator in the Nikon lineup) camera coming soon, still with the traditional Fmount and Mirror Less. I guess if it is not competing branch in the Nikon management/engineers coming out at the same time. I always thought that Nikon would move its consumer APSC line  first to Mirrorless, because when you think about it, it is much cheaper to manufacture a Mirrorless camera than a dslr. You add and evf but get rid of the mechanical mirror mechanism, penta-mirror and AF module. You also won't be getting people complaining that the grip is too small, or where the AE button has been removed or that their 30 years old lens doesn't work well on it.

From my own analysis, image resolution for photo and video should never be compared. Yours eyes can analyse a photo for hours if you want, while video is just superposition that moves perpetually. That's why true 2k looks so good in cinema image that are much bigger than any photograph, the first thing as it is moving so fast you cannot scan it (eyes brain) and secondly it is like those smartphone that stack image just move half or quarter pixel and a 12 mp image becomes a 36 etc. Another test is when you look a a freeze frame of a video it looks so much less detailed that when it moves.

Latest image (mock up) from a true sample NR cannot show. The 16.9 screen bodes well for Nikon emphasis on video in this new Camera.

So Tesla has some unnecessary side-battles to fight now, which I am sure the oil and established auto industry will use against their biggest rival. It's important for the whole damn planet that Elon Musk achieves his goals at Tesla and at SpaceX. Vital for humanity. People simply cannot get their heads around this. They are constantly gossiping and looking for ways to bring him down. Sure he's overworked. Yes, on sleeping pills. Maybe he even has a girlfriend (musician Grimes) who may not be the most stable presence (personally, I like her!). Yes, he may well have been on acid when he made the tweet about securing funding to take the company private at $420 a share. Who cares.
People need to look past all this gossip, even the possible breach of the law, and give the guy a break.
Imagine our city streets with no pollution and breathable air.
Imagine a home on another planet, ready to continue humanity after we fuck up this one.
Every investor in Tesla should let Musk concentrate on his health away from the extra pressure of lawsuits.

So from latest rumor, as I predicted it has a much bigger screen that traditional cameras. It would be at least 4 inch or even bigger which bodes well for video and touch screen use. Since they showed the first video and that it was obvious it had that gigantic mount, I knew they were going completely out of the box.

This cheap lens discontinued two decades ago, a lens that even Ken put that in Nikon 10 worst lenses list! I put this on D7500, an almost 6k DX sensor, equivalent to 8k FF sensor, and resolution was pretty good. Sure you find many optical shortcomings in these things, but thats not all because they are old! They're designed for film, which has a slight curve, not for perfectly flat digital sensors, so corners are softer that what they looked in 1980. AND they're designed to be compact, suitable for FM2 style cameras. when you prioritize the size, you have to make compromise in optics.

Sorry unless you want all your photo to have motion blur it is far from that easy. What about flash, are you going to carry something like a 300-1000 watt led light with batteries etc when you can have just a speed-light or two. Another misconception about photography, when you have to edit for example a wedding, you have to watch every shot then decide if it is good or bad then cut it t remove unwanted part etc. This is already tedious, not doing it at 24,25 or 30 fps, but one frame at a time, good luck with that.

If the adapter works flawlessly, they don't have to be in a "rush hour" in lens making. They are ready to release a ridiculously compact 500mm f/5.6 for the F mount. I bet they have already made its AF motor mirrorless-compatible. This is also true about Canon (they even want to release a EF mirrorless, which won't have the lack of lens issue at all).
Besides, unlike Sony, Nikon and Canon and Sigma, have full control on the whole glass process. Though the capacity is not very stretchable, they been doin this business from A to Z, for decades. So if they really want to deliver a dozen new lenses in a relatively short time, they can. Don't expect Canikon accepting help from third parties as Sony did. That's embarrassing for these two big guys that calling themselves Optics company!

From the rumors which have been very accurate, there are two camera released with a 45 ff at about 4k with the 24-70 f4 kit lens and Another one in the 24-25 megapixel at 3k with the kit lens. Considering Nikon pricing, that lens would easily cost about $ 800, so putting it at the same as the D850 and the 24 megapixel one near the 2k price of the A73. I think they are going to do a parrallel line and releasing the FF line and at this cost is clearly a statement that they are going for the pro/enthusiast high end market. I think at this stage they don't care about cannibalizing their DSLR line of camera becaue in the end, in the next 10 years they could get so much more money out of these users transitioning to the new mount.
