One of the biggest advantage of Full Frame for me is that you can use those super versatile F4 zoom on your camera for 99% of the shots. I intend to get the 24-70 F4 which will cover 80-90% of normal use when you counter in APSC mode. Something like the 24-120 Nikon would be a 24-180 with the Apsc mode and would cover 99% of my need for reportage shooting. The big advantage is that F4 on a full frame is like f 2.8 35mm cinema dof, so you still have plenty of shallow DOF. The second advantage is shooting in LOG format which is generally 800 ISO. To get proper ND to shoot at these high ISO during daytime is very very costly. You would need to close down your aperture again to at least F4 and F5.6 and the Full frame would again get you better DOF control.
Nice, thats the guy who did Nikon music video, shoulder rest rig, no stab. What I like is the rack focus in some of those shots, very organic.

Some AF video stabilization test. I those videos, the AF looks very very good (I mean as if using tripod), stabilization looks very good  from a standpoint but I dont know what to say about the only walking I saw. It doesn't look good, but I don't know if someday I would walk like this shooting a video. People who have been using more IBIS might have a better idea if it is good or bad.
In this one you have those walking stabilized shots, AF sometime is sick in this thing

Yes, Grant Petty says it will come in that long video about it. But also on B&H, where they normally just say 'We'll pass this on as a feature request', they say this:

Also, you can download the Braw player here (Mac only for now) https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/nl/support/download/9cadff466707404487123c114efce572/Mac OS X

Edit OSX 10.12 and up only - Hopefully someone else (VLC) will build it into their software soon enough, I won't be updating my OS  just for this.

They want to promote the z7 for now because they are delivering now. One person said that they had a z6 on show at one of the Nikon meeting but they could not use it because the Rep said it's firmware was still in beta, in some way it makes some sense, they must be putting all their effort in the z7 for the imminent launch.

Yes exactly, how is a camera meant to read your mind and know which face to follow? So this is perfectly good performance for automatic focus

This channel has a whole series of test, some I would call torture test of the focus, low light etc. This is in video and photo mode. For me this is beyond the level I think I would use it. I don't know how other MILC autofocus work but for me it is quite impressive.

As a Nikon user it is a dream come true. So impatient to get a z6, the Nikon image was already so good, now getting all the goodies like great video autofocus, ibis etc will make it a killer system. I hope they rapidly get some apsc version and not leave it to the higher end version.

Gee, I was always impressed by the HD image of the D750, later very impressed by the quality of the the 850s video in 4K. With Nikons new babies we get all that FF glory and Nikon colors and robust codec in external 10bit now and some new LOG format.
All that with IBIS and many mirrorless goodies in FF size. I´m super exited! Exited to see what you guys gonna do with it!

Nikon said the Z6 will do full sensor readout while z7 will do line skipping in full frame. It doesn't ,ean the z7 will be bad in video, in fact everything point out it will be very good, but things like rolling shutter might be better on z6, because it is much faster to read 25 megapixel than 45 ones.

They said that all their new lens where design with video in mind. There are only haters that just want to spread all type of fud about Nikon and video. They have put speed setting for the AF in video where you can speed it up or down, this with 10 bit, ibis, Nlog etc. make for a very powerful package for video shooters. They even added a pin in their tripod mount, might seem mundane but try using a dslr or Mirrorless camera a whole day for pro work and you would see how anoying and distracting when your camera is always spinning. If even this they thought about, then they really took video very very seriously.

I wouldn't even consider the z7 for hybrid or video shooters. I would go for the Z6, even Nikon stated that the Z6 was more appropriate for video.
Amazing autofocus AF in low light in my opinion, well above my own personal use. I think for video it should be the same as photo as they share the same system.

Yes all these people criticism about  the lens lineup, while most of them are using second hand vintage lens on their camera and so many are complaining because they can't adapt their existing lens to XYZ camera. If they were that rich to buy 1.5 - 2k primes, I think it should not have been a problem to re buy all lens line up. If someone can tell me the advantage in film making between a 1.8 and 1.4/1.2 lens, I am really curious. Perhaps they have fun shooting 90% of the time there subject out of focus.
Don't you have a way to let him post but be invisible to every one. He would still think that he is posting and no one would be responding, a troll worst nightmare. The guy doesn't contribute anything to this forum, he says he has zero interest in the Nikon but continuously post on them.

    You're an irritant.
What does 10bit HDMI have anything to do with anything?
I am talking about the superb internal Nikon colour and codec.
I couldn't give a crap about hooking up an HDMI recorder just for 10bit, you can barely tell the difference in quality anyway.
I have a lot of interesting lenses to use on it. Nikon F mount ones. Sigma ones. PL. There will be adapters to all sorts.
You are a jealous Canon fanboy and an idiot of the first order.
Let's vote on it. Should MdB get the boot? He's obviously trolling now. Every day. I am sick of reading this shit and it cluttering up every thread!

Nikon Z looks the best out of the new offerings to me. I think the lenses are perfect too.
The faster primes will be 2000$ or more I bet. How is it good to launch with lenses costing more than two grand?
F1.8 is fast enough. More importantly it keeps the lens somewhat small.
As usual it seems many lust for bragging rights rather than practicality.

On the subject of adapters, the PL adapter is out already before the camera has shipped. I expect an EF adapter to follow just as quickly from China

You get a clue, every reviewer has said that the AF works the same as on native Fmount camera, it is even weather sealed. Now the AF system is quite different in use than traditional Nikon system, so some who have only used it for 1 hour might have got it wrong, but if it failed or had quirks, it affected both system. Dpreview even makes the bold claim (at least until the Canon eosR) that the z7 had the best video AF period. Or perhaps if you spent a week with the camera you could tell us your experience !!!

At least two people have tested  sigma art lens with the adapter and it worked as good as on traditional Fmount camera. I am realistic, given the history of Nikon and Canon, I don't expect them to share their new lens mount as they cover all the range and contrary to Sony and M4/3 (M4/3 is by nature open) they had some catch up to do, so they willingly open theirs. I personally don't care because I can use a ton of the lens we have in the Fmount range and I guess it will be the same for a lot of Nikon users. In fact I am grateful that gave that choice so I don't have to change system overnight and don't feel pressured at all to invest thousands to renew my lens collection. It give me time to upgrade at my rhythm and need as time goes by and I see where the Z or F mount evolve. They also published their lens roadmap, and 90% of peoples need will be filled in one year.
As a Nikon user, I have been very critical about the video side of Nikon cameras even if image wise it was very good, the rest was bad compared to the competion. In the mean time I bought a canon 7d then a gh2 until I got my D750. I have even been tempted by the A73 at the start of the year even if I dislike Sony zombie colors. But credit where credit is due, Nikon has done a great job for video, it is still the only FF camera with 10 bit 422 LOG capable until now. If tomorrow Panasonic brings out a FF gh5 with super AF, I would recommend it over the Z6 for about the same price, I will recommend it to anyone who is not tied to any legacy lens system. By the way, I don't give a shit about your need, its a forum, a place for people to share but not spout nonsence about low info people that live only on sound bite and don't take 5 minutes to do some research and share something constructive to the group.

I think Sony has no way than to go 10 bit and even internal by 2020. With Nikon and now Canon offering it, it would be crazy for them not to. I think the next step by 2020 will be 4k 60p and 10 bit internal for FF MILC cameras. If else it would be suicide, I don't see anyone now moving from Nikon moving to them. Canon I am not sure with the a bit underwhelming EOS R spec. But either way, no more free lunch for them in the FF MILC market.
Yep, video is becoming at the age of maturity in the DSLR/MILC market cameras and spec won't move that much as in photography. It will only be incremental , but the cameras will be so good that if you can't do nice video with them, it is your fault and not the camera. Until Pana lauch its FF camera, this round I would give to Nikon in the FF MILC and if rummors turn out true about Fuji, the Fuji for the Apsc MILC.

The a74 is still likely over 1.5+ years away and I'd be surprised if they did 10-bit. But I doubt we see a new model less than 2 years apart. We'll see what the a7s3 brings, if it lacks 10-bit, the line in the sand between the Alpha's and the FS will not change anytime soon.
The real shocker is Fuji bringing 10-bit 4k60p to the XT3, rumored to be recorded internally. If that shares the same sensor with the new Sony APS-c cam and Sony goes toe-to-toe with features, either could be a really great option.
I'm not buying anything until all of the new models are in the wild and I have a chance to rent them.
    Cheers
    Chris
