I agree 100%. There is no middle ground. The internet has shaped public discourse into binary positions, like 1s and 0s.
People are are getting very confused to be quite honest....for example Damphousse above is conflating my opinion and endorsement. Opinions do not equal endorsements.
We're going through an era of western society which is not exactly our finest, and tribalism is taking over amidst all the kerfuffle. One is profiled for one's opinions constantly. For example I might be a liberal, Trump hating centre-ground voting British person, but if you state just one fact that people might misinterpret endorsing him, you're painted into a corner. Same with jokes. Make a bad taste one and it can be used against you in your career.
Today, people misinterpret everything as personal... it always has to be personal! Opinions! Hang on, one could just be stating a fact.... But people will link that in their head to you endorsing the subject. And to hell with context.
An example: Hilary Clinton ran a poor campaign, that's a fact. She lost, that's a fact. It could be interpreted as me being pro-Trump or as a personal opinion.... But she did. She was simply a poor campaigner. Unlike Bernie Sanders. The US is tearing itself apart over Trump and political ideologies. Corporate group-think has a lot to answer for too... Disney can't let themselves be associated in a binary argument with their values at stake vs some shitty joke on Twitter. Of course it's more complex than that... context (stream of thought and his tweets leading up to the jokes), meant as humour, not real, cyberspace, loose talk, banter - the public simply does not take this into account (it's small print and not in the news articles) so Disney had no choice but to fire him.
That is truly scary groupthink.
Here's a personal opinion of mine... this isn't a proven fact, but I honestly think our binary society is being noticed by our enemies. It is being weaponised by the Russians. If we don't sort ourselves out soon and come to our senses, they will rip right through us. They understand propaganda very well and are pitting us against each other. Liberal vs Conservative. Young vs Old. Canon vs Nikon. Windows vs Mac. They are exploiting the online landscape with bots, fake news and fake users, to cause toxic discourse. Some of them are on this very forum.
It's happening everywhere, not just in the US. I haven't heard people talk about much else than Brexit in my home country for 2 years running... That is scary, and to be honest pretty weird. Most people aren't political, but today we are reading politics into our every move and every thought.

After the first minute I didn't pay attention to the quality and really started to enjoy the video. That was good. there were some limitations but really shows that we shouldn't be stopped by the technical stuff and that content is king.

This topic will be the last place I will be looking for information on the pocket 4K at this point, Its got 130 pages of speculation, requests, wishes, complaints. But no actual user feedback or footage. So I am stunned that people are all of sudden complaining that it got a bit off topic, while John's insight is probably the most valuable information you can find in those 130 pages.

Well well we all have to admit as of late the line between "Professional" and "Consumer" have really narrowed. When I was most of you guys age you either worked for a place that did video, or you bought a $200.00 at the time spring powered 8mm movie camera. If you were rich you had a Bolex, or my dream camera, a Beaulieu 4008 ZM Camera. They made beautiful looking cameras. Not too many choices compared to today.
Now with the 4K BMPCC coming out it can nearly compete with rich people on an equal footing. The GH5s is amazing, the Sony A7 mk III is, the ML Canon 5D mk III, Canon C100, on and on. We live in an amazing time for video. It is now down to skill more than gear. The tables have leveled. No real excuse these days to not get the job done.

Still difficult what to do now. Looking forward to a camera with IBIS, for filming and photographing. A7III, BMPC4K, GH5 are interesting but does not have that extra IMO. The a6700 rumour would be the most exciting replacement for my NX1. Now this news. I think I will wat a few months for upgrading.

No really, the dynamic range is fine. You have to get the settings bang on. Gamma DR, -2 contrast (not too low), 16-235 and Smart Range + ON. I adjust the master pedestal as well and increase bitrate with the hack.
None of that existed in firmware 1.0, so people thought it lacking. It isn't.
The sensor tested for 12.8 stops on DXOMark if I remember correctly...That is more than a Canon 1D X Mark II and 1D C.
On the build quality I'm afraid I have to have a divergent opinion to you sir there as well! It's superb for the price. All the controls feel solid and the magnesium alloy chassis feels like metal not plastic like it can do on a lot of other cameras (cough, cough GH4).
It's also very responsive. When does it ever lag? Have you seen how fast it puts down a 28MP RAW before starting 6K readout for video? Compare that to the GH5 with it's laggy end to recording video and on many other cameras there are much slower buffer clearance times.
Colour science is in Nikon-Canon league.
Autofocus with the S lenses is superb, on-chip phase detect.
Better ergonomics than a Sony A7 III.
£800 used.
NX-L for full frame.
It's still the best bargain ever.
So feel free to nitpick it on the basis that your battery grip might be faulty

I tend to agree that phones will eventually take over a segment of filmmaking. And if I remember correctly Soderberg said he would definitely consider shooting more films on an iPhone. I’ve been saying this for a while... future filmmakers do not care about the technical elements as much as we do. If you make your living working on films or videography, your world will change in a few years. 
Hell look that this forum alone... there are an increasing number of posts from newbies asking which camera they should get to start shooting weddings or corporate. People are jumping into this field without much prior knowledge and eventually phones will be more than capable enough to fill those technical roles. Right now I think the question is... which manufacturer will be the first to put a larger sensor into a phone? Apple? Samsung? Red? Hell I think Canon even has some new phone patents... get ready for the inevitable.
I, for one, am excited for this. I want to tell stories, so if that can be done on a phone with a small gimbal and a lens adapter... of some sort... Then why the hell not?

Why would you downvote? Its a swing around bag, that's what its designed to do. Its carrying 2 bodies and 4 lenses, minus whatever I'm shooting with at the moment - looks like a gripped a7r2 + 16-35/4.

Is it me, or is the H.265 out of this camera getting better and better as OS support improves?
I could never shoot at ISO 3200 before without it falling apart from noise and blockiness.
Now I can with ease.
I had the hack installed but now don't because it was giving me crashes and hangs...
The bitrate increase doesn't seem to be needed because the files look without it, almost ProRes-like.
Back in 2014 the NX1 was never this impressive on the codec front. I swear.
And playback is so smooth in Premiere now...again like ProRes.
Could it be the hardware acceleration of the latest GPUs coming into affect, lifting both playback performance AND image quality?
PS...Full support in Quicktime now and latest VLC Player. No playback glitches, and Finder shows thumbnail previews.

Looking back I owe everyone a big thank-you for using the forum and taking an interest in the blog, it is amazing what it has turned into with so little effort on my part  I think this place must be the only website on the entire internet without adverts. Long may it continue like that.
Got a GX9 arriving tomorrow... about time I did a review of something cheap with the big shift to high-end stuff. Let me know what you'd like to see in the review of it.
