Jun could also view your comments about him as snide. All because he got a camera, and you did not... It feels like you're jumping to critique all video's uploaded by someone with a Pocket 4K in another attempt to support your stance that BMD is giving cameras to the wrong people.
I remember a thread here, some time back where more than a few guys critiqued your color grade on one of your Canon videos, and you responded like you never thought you'd receive criticism. You have threatened to quit this whole thing more than once, and people have always begged you to keep at it. People are here because they appreciate what you've created, but you pay way too much attention to the negative... No one can argue the numbers your site gets, but your victim attitude isn't winning.

I mean at this point you're just outright misrepresenting what Areia shot. Yes, he did shoot a video walking around a zoo. He also shot what I consider to be a well-shot, edited and graded video: ...
... as well as one comparing the Micro to the Pocket 4k, which is yet to come out (but he released the Pocket 4k footage already). I know you have seen these videos, mr. Reid, because you have commented on them on your own forums. Why are you downplaying the stuff he made? I mean the answer is obvious: it's because you weren't the one who got to make it. I really don't want to seem hostile to you on your own forums (which, don't get me wrong, I think is awesome for you to facilitate), but it's stuff like this that makes you come across as petty and vindictive, because by putting these little spins on the story you appear to be actively looking for reasons to feel slighted.

The problem I am having with all of the negative nancy’s around here is that they live in such a bubble. As said ad nauseum, sure nobody WANTS the crop, but the camera has it. If it isn’t your cup of tea, COOL! But nobody has said the image looks bad. Because so far, everything I’ve seen from the camera looks great. A thick image with great AF and great colors. People live in such bubbles here. If any of you were forced to shoot with it and forced to deal with the crop, I’m sure you guys would get amazing results.

A dignified and reflective response Andrew.
We all act small too often. Acting big is what we need more of.
My unsolicited advice: Delete the anti BM article - it doesn't reflect your intellect but, as you say above, it's the result of a perfect emotional storm.
I'd offer JB an olive branch privately - he's a good man and a valuable voice for any creative community.
A lot of your members look up to you and it's a good opportunity to show them the value of thoughtfulness.

My post did not have malicious intent. I've been following the blog for years, since the 5D Mark II & Magic Lantern craze. I've used a lot of your tips and they've been very helpful. I only just recently joined the forum. I know you shoot, I think anybody with any degree of familiarity with the site knows that you shoot. You have many haters, why I don't know. I'm sure you know why. That hasn't stopped me from visiting the site because I don't know you and I don't know the people who don't like you. I just know that you're an alternative source of information for the products that I'm interested in. The forum members are most likely the same people that are on bmcusers, the blackmagic forum, nofilmschool, cinema5d, etc. My point was simply that making a public scene because you didn't get what you wanted isn't going to make them send you the blackmagic pocket 8k when it's comes out. It's only going to put you further down the black list. This is Life 101. I understand your frustration, you've done a lot of good work over the years and helped a lot of people, but this is industry bullshit. It's in every industry. If you want to be a part of the "in-crowd" of the industry you have to play the game. If not, just say fuck em and do your own thing. Remain independent. Or... Buy the camera like everybody else because you love it and show them LOOK I've gotten 1,000,000 impressions on my review, you need to pay attention to what I'm doing over here. Anyway, best of luck to you in the future. I'll be looking forward to your unbiased review.

The price for Greece is 1749euros, that is not close to 1499$ at all, and the camera is manufactured in China. I would expect a lower starting price, this is not 2017!
It probably has the most desired specs for me, but I believe I can squeeze another year from my NX1 cameras.
There is no equal to the 16-50S, which is my main workhorse for some years now.

I've said this in the past. If I was the head of the marketing or PR for a camera company the risk/reward of inviting you and giving you access would not be justifiable. With this post you just made it even a more clear example.
There is no upside for them to invite someone like you. I think some camera companies do really want honest feedback so they can improve something, but they also want it in a way that does not embarrass them. You come across as a bit of a "loose cannon". Many of these guys, PR and marketing is their job. It's what pays their rent, pays their kids college tuition, medical bills, vacations, etc. Why should they risk all that so that you and your blog just get more credibility?
Yes, @John Brawley was a bit curt to you. But I'm not sure how that should impact your purchasing decision. As a professional DP, at the end of the day, you'll pick the best tool for the job that you your budget allows.
I do agree with you, the new Fuji X-T3 is a game changer and at such similar price range, it has advantages, given improved AF (that might actually be useful now), larger sensor and color science. We know X-H2 will probably arrive in another 9-12 months or so, taking X-T3 and adding IBIS on it, making it more useful for some people.
But at the end of the day, pros will look at the entire system and if they're shooting something for netflix, etc. BM might be the obvious system to use given their budget and the hobbyist like myself will choose Nikon, Sony or the new Fuji.
I think BM could have done a better job perhaps to be more inclusive, but as someone who supports your product and likes your community and wants to help you, my suggestion is that you could have handled it a lot better. It's probably too late now, you probably burned a lot of bridges and scared off more future marketing people.
IMHO, at this point, maybe your next option is to brand yourself as the ultimate critical reviewer. Basically the place people come to be warned and see everything they should know about before buying a product. The kind of critical review they do not get on youtube affiliate-marketing driven review business or elsewhere. So market the reason you are not invited is because your reviews are too honest, "too honest to be invited".
Hope this is constructive.

Andrew, the comments about grading weren’t intended for you specifically. Read the post. I was talking in generalities about recent facebook groups I’d left and a similar entitled tone here. It was not a personal attack but you chose to take it that way.
Cmon, I shoot these shots for BMD for exactly this purpose. To be downloaded and graded. If I was truly precious about it I wouldn’t do it again and again would I ?
You’re throwing a tantrum, publicly, because you dind’t get an invite to a BMD event that is seems like few even knew about.
Somehow you think that’s got something to do with me so you went and wrote a post about me. A really lovely piece too.
I’ve said it already a thousand times.
I don’t work for them.
I don’t have that much to do with them day to day. Last contact I had with anyone at BMD was weeks ago.
It’s not my job to make sure YOU get some attention from them. That’s on you to make that case.
And by the way, this kind of childish unprofessional behaviour is exactly the kind of reason any company would think twice about working with you.
Instead, you launch a highly personal assasination blog post as well as numerous personal attacks because I dared to try and explain that to you in a way that you thought wasn’t deferential enough ?
You don’t do this for free. You sell something. I don’t but you actually do.
Having traffic come to this site means you have a greater chance of selling something.
You sell LUT’s and you sell guides and you use the traffic here to do so. So don’t pretend all this free traffic is somehow a favour to BMD and free publicity.
I didn’t even see the post you made about the BMD footage till your personal attack on me, but I noticed when I read your BMD post you’re mixing in a bunch of references to LUT’s you’re trying to flog.
How about this...
Delete every single post of mine. All the IP that I’ve posted and shared on this forum? All those posts where I’ve shared my knowledge and experience.
Go ahead and put your money where your mouth is.

This is the post what clearly explains why you dont get invites to any brand anymore. Childish.
John's post are perfectly reasonable, Blackmagic dont want comparisons against other cameras, they want to provide enjoyable images and emotions with the camera.
Have you see the parachute footage from Eos R? It's all about smiling people enjoying the moment in the sunset. You want to capture the feeling, and we can provide you a tool for that, this is the message. Not low light noise comparisons.

I thought you were professional colleagues.
I'm not here to sell cameras.
I'm a working cinematographer. I used to enjoy sharing what I knew.
I do unpaid consulting work with many manufacturers, including BMD.

I can't help but feel a bit of a chill in the air.
These are your customers you're talking to John and fellow filmmakers. You've basically just labelled me a non-shooter/blogger and the rest of us a bunch of grading nerds who butcher your footage.
Call me "entitled" all you like but I've worked fucking hard on this blog and building a community, at the same time as being a freelance cinematographer in Berlin making my OWN stuff happen rather than working for clients. I have an artistic eye and technical expertise, I do shoot, I am not just a "camera reviewer" pedant who tests and verifies a specs sheet.
What's more, I am (or was) a loyal Blackmagic customer. I don't see much appreciation for that or for EOSHD in what you've posted above. You basically imply I'm an entitled nerd who should be glad I've even got a REAL DP on the forum. Hardly much support from you either then.
Since I started EOSHD, I've had just very occasional encouragement from people in the film industry. Doesn't happen very much. Reflects badly on the industry. But not everyone is like this. Speaking of the more positive responses I've had from people in the film industry, there's Rodney Charters. Bought my GH2 book. He sent me an email and we talked about the camera. A small thing but he had a genuine need for the book and we helped each-other out. Made a young filmmaker and anamorphic shooter feel good about all the long hours he was putting into EOSHD and all the Berlin projects at that time. It shows a generosity of spirit.
You should just be honest. You are here to sell a Pocket 4K camera. You don't give a shit about what I shoot, or what I write. I am just a guy hosting your posts.
iamoui reacted to John Brawley in Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K
What a shame.
Who are these "deep state" BMD insiders that are here pushing an agenda ? Myself and Hook. Who else ? What do you guys think, there's a plot and conspiracy ? You guys don't wat these contributions I guess ?
I'm here because I've been a member here for years and I'm on many camera forums and this is just another one I like to read and contribute to where I can.
I want to know where all the clowns that were saying on this thread that the world was going to end because BMD didn't have any footage out yet and that definitely meant something was very wrong and the shipping date would be missed.
All I've seen so far is that a planned marketing campaign by BMD that has gone off the way they intended.
They commissioned some actual filmmakers (not bloggers or camera reviewers) that make certain types of film (natural history, action sports, nature) to make some films and then they released them and the camera originals.
Then they gave some cameras, complete with some boxes as if they were new to some secondary users, and whilst having them also under NDA, got them to shoot some test footage and allowed some of them to release that footage. Again. Not reviewers. Not bloggers.
About a thousand reviewers and camera jockeys have done a bunch of made up comparisons and VLOGS based on existing footage. (hey I love seeing my footage being butchered by grading nerds)
Think about it.
No blogger or reviewer ANYWHERE has gotten a functioning camera to shoot with as far as I can tell. Because that's not what BMD want to do with their marketing of this camera. This isjust marketing 101.
They need people using the cameras in the many difference specific sectors of the market will use the camera. Camera reviews aren't part of that plan. (though it hasn't stopped people doing it based on existing footage)
Until it's shipping, it's their choice to give it to whomever they want.
I'm tired of this entitled bullshit.
I recently left a few facebook groups I was on for this camera, and I'm doing the same here. Frankly it's juvenile and I don't need the agro I sure hate explaining what should be obvious.
There's no slight.
BMD have a marketing department and they have a plan and it doesn't involve forums, bloggers or camera reviewers. That's not a snub, that's just them marketing the product in the way that they see fit.

Magic Lantern want an EOS R.
And I know just the guy to give them one...
As you can see, Magic Lantern tweeted @ Canon Rumors that they would very much like an EOS R body.
Well together my friends, we can make this happen!
Be ready tomorrow morning Eastern time.
This is when Canon Rumors are starting the competition. All you need to do is enter it. Do whatever's required, even if it involves stupid hashtags like #BeTheRevolution
If you're chosen simply reply that you wish for Magic Lantern to have the camera.
In return, I'll mention your heroic act on the blog.
And if Canon Rumors doesn't end up putting that EOS R body in Magic Lantern's direction, I'll simply point out the truth, that the site Canon once threatened to close down has finally SOLD OUT to the PR machine in a fit of hashtags and Canon giveaways. Yes, the site that leaks and plunders the camera industry for whatever they can find, has finally been tamed!
But Canon Rumors have this chance to redeem themselves.
Give the camera to Magic Lantern.
Contact Canon Rumors here and urge them to support Magic Lantern with the unit

Same with the Rental properity's I owned. You can write them off quick. Countries give Company's, Corporations every chance there is to succeed. It is what drives the economy and creates jobs.
