Shield3 got a reaction from Ed_David in Well, I sold the 1dc and bought a...
Sony FS700 with 2 metabones adapters; the speedbooster and the regular.  Also got the rig to shoulder mount it.
While I loved the 1dc's image, I found most of the things I shoot outdoors I was stopping down to F/8 or even further most of the time.  Oh, and I didn't realize used FS700's were under $3k now for ones with multiple batteries with the 4k upgrade already installed.
Other reason for selling:  I love slow motion.  There, I said it.  240FPS is just too fun.  So are ND filters and XLR inputs.
I will miss that body though.  In the right controlled settings IMO nothing can touch the IQ for less than 15k.
Price point, Oct 30 2015, USA:
    1dc I sold with 2 256GB Komputerbay 1200x cards and 2 128 GB Lexar 1066x cards, plus a spare battery.  +orig box/all accessories (35k clicks) Sold on ebay for $6478.
    FS700R (4k firmware) + Camtree Rig + Metabones II + Non-ultra speedbooster + F970 and NP F770 battery + orig box/all accessories (260 hours) = $3180 shipped overnight.
In my view, the 1dc isn't $3300 better than the FS700, and I was worried the 5dIV or 1DX mark 2 would be release anytime and shoot 4k and kill my resale value.

I will pick up a beat up 1d Mark IV to shoot sports.

Thoughts?  Am I having seller's remorse?

The Nx1 is an incredible piece of tech, an incredible camera (I keep telling this to everyone), its the most underated piece of gear in ages. I did think the a7rII would come close to it though, surprised to see its so far behind, this just confirms my opinion, the NX1 is the best 4k (and video) camera around up until the tens of thousands in price, and even then, it compares quite close.

    Great test btw !

I will tell you as a 1dc owner it's tough to get super deep DOF with the 1dc.  I've shot the 16-35 F/4 @ F/16 and it still blows the background out a bit.  The colors and skin tones are just wonderful - the 1dc is magic fairy dust especially after you grade it a bit.  Lots of data in those 500 M/bit files, and they grade quite nicely.
The regular 1080p FF mode is pretty lousy, but the 4k scaled to 1080 and the s35 mode are great.  I've gotten decent results with the 1080p60 and quite a bit of sharpening - it's the main knock on this camera.
If Canon were smart, they'd put the 1dc sensor inside a 70d body and add the DPAF system - with a touch screen.  It'd be killer.

Some of those are great choices.  To me the beauty of the 1dc is the ability to also shoot 12 FPS with continuous AF (sports).
I didn't want a loupe or anything where I couldn't quickly put my eye up and shoot regular stills.  I also wanted the ability to have an EVF and the ability to zoom in while recording.
    Get one of these:
    http://www.kinotehnik.com/products/electronic-viewfinder/overview
It is lightweight, runs for 4-5 hours on 4 AA batteries, has 4 preset modes you can set to whatever you want - 1/2/3x zoom, 1:1 etc (like 8-10 zoom modes).  All work while recording.  SHOE mounted so in about 5 seconds flat I can shoot stills.  DOUBLES as a 3 inch LCD monitor when the loupe/eyepiece is folded down.  Has OVER and UNDER exposure modes, All blue mode, multiple colors and levels for peaking, software so you can edit modes while recording.  Crop marks, histogram.  I leave mirroring "off" on the 1dc and toggle the menu and I get a nice full viewfinder shot with only the record button at the top right if I want, or any combination of menus.
Not only that, but I bought the (outrageously overpriced) USB control module with the 4 way joystick.  I mounted this on the right side of the EVF on the 15mm rail so I can toggle zoom/peaking etc without moving my left hand from the camera body.  The slickest thing for me is I have 4 separate zoom modes while rolling that can be toggled on and off without going into the menus.
Well made and rock solid.  They're $950 new or about $550 used on ebay.  Comes with 2 battery trays.  Less than a pound.  You can get a SHOE extender and put your mic and the EVF both mounted to the shoe at once.
I can take a picture of my setup, but basically it looks like this:

    http://www.hkarlsen.no/2013/09/the-canon-1dc-and-kinotehnik-evf/
If for some reason I ever sell the 1dc (why would I) I would keep this LCDVFE.

Also has an HDMI pass through if you want to use recorders.  False color, zebras, blue, peaking, etc.  It does it all.

I don't understand people who ask about 4K in crop mode. Look at the total number of pixels in this sensor and tell yourself the answer, its a simple math.

Also, if you want to grade a video exactly like Lightroom (for the most part, with the ACR control panel):
Use a recent version of Photoshop.  Open a video file.  Right click on said video, and select "Convert to smart object".
Then you will see the Raw filter available from the filter menu.

Quick 4 step process (obviously once graded you hit "File / Export video".  The rendering process isn't too quick, but I've had good results.

Just did some tests.  Framing guides on/off had no ill effect for me.  Changing metering linked to spot focus didn't either.
However, changing metering to evaluative / spot metering AND having auto brightness on the display cured the problem for me with firmware 1.40.  Just an FYI.

I'm not sure why people are getting so defensive about what is a pretty apparent weakness with long exposures on the A7R II. It's to be expected with tons of pixels and poor heat dissipation. Does it render the camera unusable or condemn it to the junk bin? No. But it should be acknowledged and explored. Even if it turns out to be bad processing or poor exposure, we'll at least learn how and why the A7R II files fall apart.

I returned mine. Too many flaws for reliable professional use. Of course this is just my opinion and some folks will go out to do wonderful things with this camera.
I've come to believe that Canon is being a lot more serious about their hardware. They don't care about hype, they care about producing professional tools, while
Sony seems to have in interest in dominating the consumer market with "rushed-to-market" bombs that blow away the competition on paper only.

You know what guys, either I am going mad or I am starting to see why Canon held off on significant improvements to video like 4K on their consumer DSLRs so far. If landscape photography with a long exposure suffered due to heat, Canon would lose half their customers.

That this test from DXO Mark, combined with the A7R II's well-documented overheating problem, proves to me that there's little reason to choose it over the D810 for hybrid shooting. It takes equal or better stills, has a much better lens library, offers more robust professional and third party support, is more reliable with long recordings, has a much better battery life, and gives you comparable DR with better colors. Oh, and it's $200 cheaper. Besides 4K and the EVF, I don't see a lot that points in the A7R II's favor unless you just can't cum without 4K.

Have you seen the video out of the D810? Not to mention it doesn't melt into a puddle if you record for more than 10 minutes.

you take The actual lens focal length * 0.71. If you want to compare it with ff you then multiply by crop factor (I.e 2x for mft)
so your example 35 * 0.71 = 24 on mft. It would then be equivalent to 48 on a ff camera (24x2)

Shield3 got a reaction from kaylee in How I would describe 1dc video quality
So now I have to use a Shogun + a7rii, plus buy SSDs / Metabones adapter / multiple batteries for both / a grip probably to add some heft?  Now we're at over 6k and you've built something that still cannot shoot sports and is larger to carry around than the 1dc + this Kinotehnik LCDVFE.
I don't care about video AF; if I do I grab the Samsung NX1.  The A7x models don't exactly AF well in video as you well know.  Unless it's something as smooth as a 70d I wouldn't tout that as a feature of the a7x series.
Regarding the LCDVFE - It will display underexposed areas as well, allow you to customize what's on the screen, 4 custom modes, 4 separate zoom modes, display in all blue as well as false color, allow you to control it with an external USB controller, has a proper eyepiece/loupe that blocks out all the glare, and the top folds down to double as a small monitor.  I've had the a7s and this EVF is light years better.  The Shogun is nice but hard to see in bright light, very large and has limited battery life.  Or so I've read.  What do I know - I've never owned one.
No camera is perfect - I would like better high speed framerates with the 1dc - hell I'd take 4k 30 - the difference I think between us is I shoot quite a bit of kids running around playing sports and need the native long lens reach and superior AF tracking that the 1d(x) system provides.  I don't see the 2.8 zooms being available yet in FE mount, nor any long glass, and shooting indoor basketball and gymnastics would drive me crazy if it didn't work properly in mixed lighting.  I simply love the dynamic range of the Sony cameras and Canon would do well designing some newer sensors for their cameras.
One thing that drove me batty was not having the custom modes on the a7s save the APS-C setting.  If you create a custom mode 1 with FF and a #2 with APS-C on, will it remember it now?  If not can you at least assign it to a button at least?

Uhm, this was shot with a stabilized lens - the 16-35 F/4 IS.  All handheld and purely casual shooting.  IBIS is fine for short lenses, but really useless for 135mm+.  Also you do know there are external EVFs that attach to the HDMI port, right?  Like this one:
IMO it's the best of both worlds - this EVF does way more than the Sony built in EVF; I can remove it when I don't want to use it.  False colors, multiple zoom modes, underexposed/overexposed areas, crop marks, more peaking choices, etc.  Weighs less than a pound and I can pull it off to shoot sports; it attaches to the shoe so no, I don't need to remove it.  I would take exception to your use of the word "extreme" sports.  The A7x can't shoot regular sports without any native long glass or good focusing in low / mixed lighting.  I hate shooting action with an EVF.  But hey, for non-moving objects it's a great camera -  if you don't have a client pissed when it overheats and shuts down.  Nothing is as clumsy as that.  To each his own I guess.
