  1. very nice man, keep em coming
  2. Thanks Andrew that all sounds great! If they keep up with the constant updates I think we have a winner. My BMD experience was so bad I dont know if I'll go ad. My first pocket cam was split in half so I could see the circuits inside, I think it happened when i went to charge it it was left on and got pretty hot so the Glue split let go so id be careful guys with them. The second one had tons of green stuck pixels. The service from Michel at one of their distributors has been excellent so far so I cant wait to get it in my hands. it shipped today!
  3. So I bought one of these i think it ships sometime this week. Im a nikon user so the price to get the MK3 and CF cards and batts etc was getting close to the cost of this so I went ahead and ordered one. Oh and I also already had a smallHD monitor. My only 2 concerns even after your review are 1. 20FPS to monitor doesnt make me feel like I can count on my monitoring...do you think they will be able to optimize this and fix it via firmware or is it some limitation on hardware? 2. MONO? why on earth would you put mono in on a camera like this? I cant even comprehend this decision... 3. Do you think a speedbooster friendly mount could be on the way? I hope I made the right choice, I really want the DR and the BMD cameras were very underwhelming for me. yes small and quick to use but the build and small sensor were not working for me.
  4. Shot over the past few years when we go home to Salisbury NB. This is down by the river where the children play. WE have such a good time hanging out with friends and family here. Big thanks to everyone who comes out to see us while we are home. Shot on the Nikon D800 and D4 with the Dog Schidt Optiks FF58 Q1.5 Amber lens, Iscorama 1.5X anamorphic and other Nikkor lenses.
  5. yes cause of the 2X stretch like you guys said it was some 50mm like a helios or the nikon 50 1.4D, I shot using the crop mode so 1.5X or else it would vignette because of the stretch factor
  6. Yeah if you are cording on the sensor at 16X9 then you will get 3.25:1 which is really wide. like this https://vimeo.com/71625038 But if you can go 4X3 by using ML then the 2X ratio is more preferred. Like this, shot on the epic in Ana mode using a lomo 2X 50mm https://vimeo.com/73551194 PASS is ram And one more flare test so I could recreate it later https://vimeo.com/74545928 If you can afford it go with a lomo, isco or anamorphot that has a single focus system. Even a lomo squarefront can be amazing if you get one in good condition. I loved my kowa but sold it to get a Trump to use a 1.5X oval aperture with the 1.5X iscorama getting me the 2X look.
  7. It does work I found the settings for their EVF DP4 were not great as it cut off the ends of the footage which I mean you would want to see for framing. I ended up keeping my settings which squeezed rather then stretched, the only issue I get is this noise a the bottom of frame. Also if you go to far the image will lock up. Ive talked to Smallhd awhile ago about this and they said it was currently an issue with the smaller DP4, it could be fixed by now, I should check mine tonight. I hope so as its such a great small monitor to take around for my kind of shooting.
  8. yup that is true, its kinda weird that a lot of these are getting a somewhat fair price recently.
  9. I know I asked this before but does the larger rear element give you a bit wider FOV before vignetting at all?
  10. There is a kowa 16h for sale on ebay buy it now for cheap. Grab it, GRAB IT!   http://www.ebay.com/itm/Kowa-Prominar-Anamorphic-16-H-RARE-/261325331624?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cd8341ca8   Just popped up on my watch list.
  11. I was wondering on that, yes the 2X anamorphics will require something longer then 50 or 58mm like an 85. I was able to use these only on crop mode. The 1.5X anamorphics could be used with something around 50mm
  12. I got pretty good at it, it really is what you have to deal with on a modest budget. I would just focus one towards infinity or close focus and then the other. You get used to how the defocus works where it will kind of get sharper but before it does the bokeh will stretch out the other way and then you know to focus the other to get it sharp.   Unfortunately finding amazing deals on anamorphics is not happening anymore unless you are travelling around small shops in the UK, Germany, Russia I just dont think you are going to run into a great cheap find on the internet now a days.   Look into the Bolex Moller lenses, The kowa 16H, 8z or BandH, and maybe even get up to the iscomophot single focus anamorphic lenses. Besides that the iscorama lenses are all over priced. The only other thing I can suggest is the anamophic filters or the DSO Dog Schidt Optics Lenses. You can fit oval apertures and really get a nice fake out of them. No vignetting or anything because its back at the aperture level.   I dont want to keep polluting threads with samples of this but you can msg me for some or look for some of my posts using these.
  13. You may want to play around with one first. Im sure it will still work if you were shooting with crop lenses already. I returned my pocket camera because like you I had a set of lenses I loved already. Unfortunately they were Nikon full frame or old Russian and German lenses. So putting say a 58mm lens with speedbooster still only brought it back down to a 119mm lens....just wasnt useful enough for me. Took the money I would have spent on lenses and invested it into another camera body like the kineraw mini.. You have a 5d3 put Magic lantern on it, unless you are looking for compact and a camera thats not obvious for shooting in lets say airports and the like
  14. Me too, Im trying to put in an order now. Its a bit more expensive then the 5D but its more versatile. The high frame rate, getting the kineraw mount gives me the options of EF, PL and F mount. Ive put in a request for Emount. Hey Andrew lets make that one happen and then we can get a speedbooster working on it! Wider FOV and you get that stop back as well. The raw output for 4k, I also feel like I could rent this out more then a 5D with ML so instead of sitting around I could grab some of the market that cant afford to rent an epic or scarlet.
  15. yes half ass attempts dont get sales. I would even bet this DF camera doesnt get the sales they expect either.
  16. Yes Im sure that they never wanted to get into video thats why the main focus of the D4 and D800 launch was all about uncompressed video out through HDMI lol its a tool, there are tons of stills cameras out there if you didnt want video on it. Im also guessing that them adding a video switch to live view and a dedicated record button also solidifies that they never intended to get into video....come on get real people maybe our market is small but I can tell you all Ive heard from everyone around here anyways is that the sony a7r is the better choice over this because its more of a Swiss army knife camera. I want to make sure I bring the right tool for the job and this one is not it. My job is not about looking like a hipster and complaining about having too many features in the tools I use
  17. EXACTLY!!! Im a nikon user and own the XE-1 from Fuji. It took me months to get them to respond to issues in their video cameras. Here is a video showing just how bad the XE-1's auto exposure and auto WB in video is. https://vimeo.com/76306732 Im also an Nikon NPS member because of using their cameras to capture plates and shooting on set which made me think that they would respect video users a bit more....nope. I have no interest in this camera at all. I bought a D4 and could not justify the price for crappy video so I sold it and got a d800...its aok but now im looking at the kineraw mini or 5D with ML. I may also sell my fuji even though I like it the a7r at least has decent video. These are tools to me, i dont even think of them as cameras really just a way to capture images and video to use later...if you cripple your cameras I'll leave for something else. Im not married to your brand any more.
  18. I dont condone the use of automatic shutter but when it looks this good what can you say. This location is quite beautiful I love that high long pier there!. The flares are working quite well on this one as well.    You guys are doing a good job of killing the need for anamorphic lenses ;P
  19. Wanted to share some stills from the Trump on my D800 from yesterday morning.           Yay nice 2X oval bokeh :)
  20. Exactly and also you just wont get the look we all crave out of it easily. there are tons of old Zeiss and Nikkors out there and other glass that will do.    I actually sent my pocket camera back because Id rather put the money on a camera that allows me to use the lenses I currently love like this Trump. Id be happy with a full DSO kit that has the range that a lomo anamorphic kit would have.    35 2X = 16mm range 50 2X = 24-25mm range 75 2X = 35mm range 100-135 2X Current Trump :)
  21. Very nice, first lens showcase that makes me regret sending my pocket cam back. Very cool man.
  22. Thanks guys I love this lens. If you havnt gone out and gotten one what are you waiting for. I'll be putting together a thorough review ASAP. The creative options this lens provides is incredible. Also I guarantee that the Oval Apertures in this guy are worth more then fighting with all the lower end anamorphics or paying the crazy prices for some of the other offerings. Also if you are going for the Trump ask the guys about getting on the list for the new Flaresex filter. Its sweet and I'll be reviewing that soon as well.   Thanks for checking out my little test video Rob
  23. This is shot using the D800, DSO Trump FF58 with Oval aperture, the new flare sex filter and towards the end the Iscorama 1.5X anamorphic lens mounted inside the Trump for a 2X oval bokeh.   https://vimeo.com/76912854   Some images of the trump I'll grab one with the iscorama in there too.
  24. The easiest way I can think of it is to look at how wide something like a tokina 11-16 is on a super35 sensor at 11mm horizontally. That sucker is really wide....
  25. Yeah unless you are using OpencolorIO or ACES when going linear you will clip all highlights. Not to throw this convo sideways but I found if you are not using that you have to use cineon or LogC to keep anything above a value of 1 even in 32bit float linear its just the way the curves work.   Awesome tests, I have a pocket I may return, ive had QC issues with 2 already and I just cant deal with the crop even with a speedbooster. Im still 50/50 but if I have to buy new wide lenses like lets say the 11-16 and the 18-35 with maybe a prime like the 12 1.6 why dont I just put the money towards something better or similar that I can use my current kit on....
