  1. Oh and one more thing its not to toot DSO or Rich and Hans horn over here again and again but the Oval aperture, added with there upcoming Flare lens paired with beautiful glass in there Trump series is far more appealing then cheap anamorphics. the look can be much better I think anyways.
  2. Its not to stop everyone from trying just it would just be nice if people would just stop cutting corners and only going for the superficial reasons for shooting anamorphic. Its not something anyone should jump into, I think its amazing that this method has resurfaced after being a work around to get more detail on the film negative. In doing so we got amazing things like the horizontal flares and oval bokeh. Other things like getting a wide and tele feel in the same lens resulting in a more intimate image to your viewer. Wides often alienate the viewer and anamorphic kinda solves this along with tons of character.    Anyways these are the reasons why slrmagic, letus and this dont really interest me. My thoughts on this set up are yes it looks like the Panasonic adapter, it also sufferes from the terrible edges and awful distortion even at longer focal lengths. The flares look ok but the lens was mounted lopsided so it wasnt very..horizontal. and lastly being a 1.33X I guess is that the bokeh is not very great. For 2k there are plenty of great deals to be had that have more character and better aesthetics.   I know they are all a lot more expensive but having an iscorama I may be a bit spoiled. Also having used a wonderful Lomo I just cant see using anything less. its not apples to apples or anything but compare what you are trying to do with the Girl and a gun lens tests of the hawk 74 series lenses. Not saying I want that for 2k but if you can even reproduce 10% of that you would have my attention.
  3. I never saw that option on there. I know what you mean like on a gopro but the menu is pretty much the same as the original BMCC. I should be getting my actual copy later this week or next but it would be a good idea to put that through support because the forums over there get pretty clogged up.    BTW you are not going into stereo work are you haha. Ive avoided working in it so far.
  4. Multicoating doesnt bother me too much as it seems easy to find someone to remove it. I will look into the 28mm F2 want to go as wide and large aperture as possible. F2 is great some of those older F1.4  lenses can be pretty ridiculous for cost so F2 is a great place to start
  5. I did the calculations on that calculator for the BMCC that was on the forum at one point. Im not sure if I calculated with the Pocet but I was planning on using it with the speedbooster and the pocket.
  6. im trying to locate a good cheap Nikon 24mm F2.0 for this exact purpose then I'll take it in somewhere and just get the coatings removed.
  7. I bought 3 of the 1800mah batteries off ebay but have yet to try them. Im almost half expecting them to blowup in the camera. Has anyone else tried these batteries. I totally agree that the 800mah battery life is horrid.
  8. hmm I'll have to try stopping down my DSO lens Ive also heard the older nikon 50 1.8 is a good choice but you are risking going wider then 58mm with that one.
  9. You are doing a great job man dont worry about the delays at all :)
  10. yup the Tokina 11-16 and the sigma 18-35 are my BMCC lenses with the speedbooster, so awesome
  11. I think you guys are getting close though. There is something natural about these, so much better then video copilot haha and the flare filter I got now just does one big fat horizontal flare so bravo for adding some nice subtle effects in there.   I would say Rich it would be nice to see the same test both with and without the filter so we can see what it adds and what flaring happens with the lens you are using.
  12. I used that set up and it was outstanding. Thats what I was going to say but i thought everyone had thought of this before. You gain a stop and get your wide end back and the booster is less then you would spend on a new lens.
  13. UGH Move to Canada Tony! Id love to help out so much dammit.
  14. We still use cineon or a flavor of log as in Alexa LogC but people are slowly moving over to ACES or Open ColorIO so that it can hold the amount of data into linear 32bitfloat EXR which by default still clips everything over 1 but Im also looking at moving us over to it so I can send the proper plates over to 3d. Maybe this year...
  15. Ahhh after effects is ok but I couldnt do have the work I need to quite as fast. For using a piece of software all day everyday I am quite happy with Nuke actually.   So I have almost figured out the Houdini workflow but Im just having a bit of an issue getting the background image to play nice with the overscan workflow. Currently the geo extends as well so it is not lining up but you can use the non overscan plate and then increase the window size.   Anyways I'll try to sort it out and keep moving ahead adding more stuff.   Rob
  16. Im probably not 100% sure but I have that lens as well but my taking lens that comes with it is in M42 pentax mount not Fmout which is what you have and what i wish I had lol.   The lens is from around 1968 and most likely single coated which makes it a desirable lens to have for sure. Great find, i dont want to know what you paid or it would probably make me upset knowing it compared to what I paid as well.
  17. Yes houdini is great but there are parts of that package that get a little left behind like the COPs section of it. Also the amount of artists available to do the amazing things that program is capable of is low even here in Van. So I will be using it for more specialized sims and then using mudbox, maya and vray to achieve the rest. Im not a fan of maya either but the studio Im at does great stuff with it so it should be a pretty good workflow.
  18. Thanks guys, I should mark this as part one because I doing this in order to do a large matte painting correctly so there should be a part 2 coming with way more stuff once the geo gets built, rendered, stuff gets added etc. Im glad it looks like it could be of some use.   @mugwart Ive used Houdini before but you are right it is not easy to set up image planes and projection cameras in that program. I may ask the Houdini guy at work to help me get this scene over.
  19. Tony I love the look of the Moller as well but they are going for sky high prices too now. If you could get that look break but with the ability to rack id sell my car for the damn thing it would be so legendary.   That being said Im still interested in trying slr magics take some day but id have to find out what character an old taking lens can add to it.
  20. Hello everyone,   This is one way to learn to deal with Anamorphic footage in post. Here is a detailed tutorial on working with anamorphic footage in post, from dealing with lens distortion and squeeze factor, moving data between applications and rendering with the proper pixel aspect ratios. I will be updating this tutorial with more info as I move through the process and adding more applications as well. Currently I cover Nuke, After Effects, Video Copilot and Maya. The next one will most likely be Houdini but if you have any suggestions, something is missing or if there is a better way to do something please let me know. I really wanted a place to consolidate all of this info and make it available to anyone who needs it, so let me know if you found this useful.   Thanks Rob B   http://www.robbannister.com/working-with-anamorphic-footage-in-post/
  21. yeah I already have the Iscorama from 1968 and its beautiful and I am looking at lomo roundfronts to own but of course money is always the issue. Look is much more important to me then anything else.
  22. Tony Id love to hear more about your dead projects or this test lens you have.   I dont travel that way often but Im sure its a beauty man, people need to understand that you are not going to get an anamorphic lens with a great build and excellent characteristics for the price of a sigma lens. You should be expecting on the cheap end around $3000-$5000 maybe even more. I mean cine lenses alone cost more then this and these guys are heading for $1500 is great for some but also you cant expect a lomo or hawk replica for this price.
  23. If we are just talking about flare just closely match the ones we already love. I vote for the Lomo 50mm 2X roundfront. Here is a small sample, under stronger light it also shows a small rainbow hoop close to the light source but I really fell in love with the way this lens flares instantly.   http://vimeo.com/74545928
  24. again check out DSO's oval aperture tests, I wasnt interested till I thought of that combo. Then you would have 2.35 or 2.40 with the ovals you want. Im getting a trump in a few weeks hoefully, if anyone wants to send one to test Id love to do it ;) I bought this to amplify the ovals on my iscorama and I cant wait till that bad boy feels like a 2X heh   I agree with everyone on 1.5X and 2X because its the painted BG look you want with ovals. Also it allows you to shoot telephoto while maintaining a wide FOV when you go with more stretch which is the main reason I love anamorphic in the first place.
