  1. I've been really wondering lately.....where exactly is all this 4k/8k high resolution stuff supposed to be consumed?  Seriously there are not many places at all for it.  With mobile taking over everything thing I'm starting to feel we are wasting time chasing higher resolutions.

    YouTube (bitrate compressed 4k)
    - 70% viewers are mobile
    - Mobile only supports 1080
    - 4k+ only on desktops(30%)

    Vimeo Pro (bitrate compressed 4k)
    - Supports 4K through upgraded service option
    - 4k only on desktop
    - Mobile HD only

    Facebook
    - 90% of Facebook’s daily active users access it via mobile
    - 1080p only on desktop
    - Mobile HD only

    Instagram
    - 100% mobile
    - Supports 1080 uploads
    - Mobile HD only

    Amazon Prime (bitrate compressed 4k)
    - 4k for original content only
    - Non originals/indies limited to 1080 uploads
    - Mobile HD only

    Netflix (bitrate compressed 4k)
    - 70% viewers on TV
    - Supports 4K through upgraded service option
    - Very slim chance of getting your content here

    Hulu
    - Removed 4k content last June

    Theatrical
    - 2k DCP

Direct Digital File from computer via hdmi connecting (Non bitrate compressed 4k)
    - 4K Projector
    - 4k/8k TV

    Ultra HD blurry disc writer
    - N/A for consumer purchase

Just got this camera, waiting on it to come. Interested if anyone here still uses one. Would enjoy seeing work done on it or hearing experiences.

    My reasoning was:

    1. no record limits (needed for C cam for weddings)
    2. really cheap (350 bucks used)
    3.  RAW 12 bit
    4. dynamic range seems pretty remarkable

It still produces a great image.  Below is RAW 12bit upscaled to 4k in davinchi resolve.

All of that is already available via iTunes or Apple TV, what will be different?

I think Apple will alter consumers habits. I believe this is actually the most significant point. Currently, consumers do consume via Apple devices or services, but I do not think it is a very significant market share. If they effectively change large amounts of consumers to alter their patterns of behavior from Netflix and broadcast, then your and my content can live right next to the big blockbuster films and TV shows.

How does this make the streaming model sustainable?

Well, it simply makes it possible. Currently we have virtually no sustainable ways to distribute our content for the reasons described above. If Apple succeeds in shaking up the industry, as I believe they will, you can focus on creating amazing content and marketing it where consumers already consume. It guarantees nothing but an opportunity.

This sort of already exist for Amazon Prime.  You can be on mobile and in every household living room that has a SmartTV or that has xfinity cable service as they have partnered with Amazon Prime.  Apple wisely is not allowing an itunes app on samsung TV.

I have expressed multiple times here that C200 is in reality a glorified, and overpriced, C100. I have used the 2 cameras extensively, and the C200 is half a step ahead C100, while we wished for it to be 2.

If you do not care much about 4K and raw, then the C100mkII is one of the friendliest and straight forward cameras in the industry.

If you want/need broadcast codecs and "advanced"(=which are the norn for most manufacturers) features then even the JVC LS300 delivers, for a 3000$ price tag and the ability to shoot brodcast quality 4K/60p (with an Atomos), and you can get FS5ii raw/Ursa mini Pro for cheap, and EVA for less cheap!

I agree.  I think the C200 is grossly overpriced.  Im don't see $4000 of image improvement between the 2 cameras.  The C200 should be priced around $3499 and the C100MK down to $1499.  Im curious now how the 10bit 4k image from the EOS R compares with the C200 image in raw.

Well maybe they just really can't produce a good enough Sensor or Processor to get the job done? Or a combination of both? They may just be that far behind, say Sony.

And I can see Canon's point about not having Raw or 4K back then. It would Have to be reliable and not overheat, and it would have to last a LOT longer in duration than what ML can do recording wise. Nobody would buy a camera that can only work for a limited time, and just be totally unreliable when you need it. Now maybe they could have done 2K. I don't know. 2K is a pretty big jump up from 1080p.

on the 5D3 MK3 1080 Raw is stable and doesnt over hear the camera.

I had the exact same experience. I shoot weddings for a living and after having 2 strikes with the threat of having everything removed upon the 3rd strike, I opted to go into 2018 uploading everything to YouTube instead. About 2 months ago, I received my 3rd strike on a video I had uploaded 4 years ago and my whole video archive was deleted. I still had to re-upload previous 2017 and 2016 projects to YouTube, but at least all my 2018 files were already safe. I'm just bummed I've put money into Vimeo and they wrecked my shit.

Edit: All that to say, heed Andrew's warning, because it can and will happen. It's just a matter of time.

Indeed, I received this same message today.  I'm migrating everything to YouTube for now until another platform emerges.  I'm on my 2nd strike and really received NO warning smh.

Not really sure what you mean by this.

Yes, I like the camera because i knew exactly what it was going to be and it has lived up to that expectation. I'm not going to hate on it because it doesn't have a tilting screen because i knew it wasn't going to have one. I'm also not going to hate on it because it doesn't have continuous AF or  IBIS because A: I don't need those features and B: I knew the camera was never going to have those features. I defend the camera against unrealistic people just because I am interested in the conversation relating to the camera and am quite dumb founded that people would find the need to get on a thread about a camera they do not want and does not meet their needs and start arguing about it.

It's like me getting on the Sony A7III thread and ranting and raving about the fact that it doesn't do RAW or 10bit. Just sillyness!

I'm trying to give people some perspective but people just want to bang on about why it doesn't have feature A or B that a mirrorless camera does have.

One of my many faults is that I have low tolerance for stupidity, and there has been so much silly talk here that I felt the need to get involved. I mean, why the hell is Resolve not free? Why is Blackmagic not giving away it's products? Seriously. Can we talk about something constructive!

I wonder if Emanuel or Dbounce works for Sony or Panasonic as they are constantly on here bashing the Pocket for not being what it was never intended to be. Why are they so intent on bashing a camera they have not interest in? Andrew has been very vocal about the X-T3 and despite years of interest in RAW, now thinks the X-T3 is the ducks nuts, does he now work for Fuji?

    So much ridiculousness....it's quite staggering.

Agreed...This thread has descended into complaining and cry baby whining.

Thanks Kye, this is a very logical approach with great points.

But if you’ve read my last couple comments you may understand my point about using a camcorder for CERTAIN projects.

As a hobbyist/diy/no budget/one man band filmmaker that has A LOT of movie ideas but only limited time and budget per project, I am looking for ways to be more productive with more creative freedom. For me, a camcorder could be the perfect tool for certain projects. For those projects, it wouldn’t be a B-Cam, it would be THEE-Cam.

As far as shallow depth of field goes, yeah when the XC10 was my only camera, I definitely missed lenses and shallow DOF, but anyone who has ever shot with a camcorder knows ways around that through composition and focal length... and it’s not like a 1” sensor is an iPhone.

    What about the XC15?

  9. I like the image i'm seeing from this camera.  I'm picking up the Pocket 4k for any film related task and adding this to my Canon camera line (C100MK2, XC10, & 5DMK3) up for event relate task.  In mixed lighting the HD is a good match for my C100.  Much better than the 5DMK3 sans magic lantern raw.  For event work the auto focus for me is just critical.  Running and gunning trying to keep subjects in focus using the follow focusing method with your hand sucks.  I'm sick and tired of that for events but for film I can still tolerate.  I'll probably retire the 5DMK3 to photo only task.

    OK,

Now I'm going to look a little stupid. I've had a little time with the c100 ii and having a hard time adjusting. Maybe I'm missing something, or maybe this camera is just not right for me and my run and gun style

First, exposure is a total issue right now, I am completely out of wack with it. on DSLR, I keep my Aperture wide open most of the time (except for certain shooting), shutter at 180 degrees and let Auto ISO do it's thing for Run and Gun. Of course when I have time to set up shots like Interviews, longer programs, performances, I will manually adjust ISO, and white balance. But for the run and gun, Auto ISO is really a fantastic option. BUT with the c100ii, that isn't an option and now I find my self fumbling with ND's and auto Iris or trying to click a few buttons to adjust ISO above 850 and it is really not very easy to do on the fly.

Also, ND's are easier to understand and seem to work great outside and in brighter light, but auto Iris totally changes my DOF obviously. Then if 850 ISO is too dark, I can't assign the handle wheel to ISO (only shutter) so I have to click into the menu and fumble there for a bit.

Is there anyway to get faster exposure?? or am I just going to have to work way different?

Another issue: I use 60 fps all the time intermixed on run and gun. Just about in every video. I have it saved as a custom button on top of 6d and 80d. on the c100, I'm having hard time finding a quick way to navigate this. Has anyone found that fastest way to switch between 24fps and 60fps without 4 or 5 steps.

Now, I have a full event shoot tomorrow and I am going to suck it up and try to use it the best I can and see what I get but if anyone has any help or ideas about this it would be great. I'm starting to feel like, although this camera will give me better quality, it might not work for my work flow.

    Cheers

Try the auto iris function and toggling quickly to 60fps is a pain.

Is it really closer to the URSA Mini though? I see both sides of the argument, but the BMP4K looks closer to the GH5 than the original pocket camera. The original pocket camera looks closer to the Alexa than the Gh5 does... So? Can't wait to test it, but if I liked this look I would already own the Gh5 at this point. Am I missing something?

Market: We want a 4K Pocket Camera!

    BMD: Here ya go!

    Market: Not Enough Mojo.

All these lack of “mojo” comments are really silly.  People will be able to color grade it to match just about any look they want.
