Oh, I get it now, so... there's an XLR hotshoe adapter, without any cables running into it.
It is... because the 2nd gen XLR hotshoe adapter... doubles as A RAW RECORDER !1!! It takes the signal from the hotshoe interface! Incl. Dolby Atmos audio from the onboard mic they've added to the XLR unit (Vesku...). Dúh.
And RAW has 3 straight elements in the 'R', the 2nd letter 'A' has 3 as well, 3+3=6, more so: the W of course has 3 peaks at the top and 2 at the bottom, 3*2 is 6. And RAW is three letters, so 666. Illuminati* confirmed!

I think we are lucky if we get 10bit 120p in FHD/2K, but if that's multi aspect I would have no reason to complain. 4K/60p/10bit internally would be badass but I doubt that, too much too soon after the original GH5. Owners would go nuts.
That advanced HDR sounds like a lot more reasonable and "prosumer friendly". They need to sell those HDR TVs somehow, showing off nature docs with over saturated colours and interpolated magic motion on the shopfloor won't cut it now.. they have to give you toys to create content with.

Hello everyone, let me tell you the story of how I got the cheapest single focus solution. And how it compares to the Rectilux HCDNA (results a the end of the post)
Last month, I found this anamorphic adapter on ebay :

It was cheap, and looked like a weird anamorphic projection lens using prisms. So I bought it (Gear Acquisition Syndrome :D).
Then I took it apart to clean it, and noticed it consisted of two prisms (for the anamorphic part) and some kind of focussing solution in the front.

So I 3D printed an adapter for it (around 5GBP printed at a local shop) and tried it. And of course it confirmed to be a single focus solution !
So I had to test it ! Here are the results compared to the hardcore DNA :
Taking lens : Super Takumar MC 105mm f/2.8
    Camera : Canon 50D
    Anamorphic lens : Schneider Cinelux
Single Focus Solution : Rectilux HCDNA vs GB-Kalee Small Anamorphic (front part)
(Same grade applied to all shots)

Here is a picture of the setup :

Of course, the GB-Kalee is less convenient :
    - Minimum focus distance around 1.8m
    - Smaller element diameter (would work better with smaller anamorphic)
    - More difficult to focus (as my copy of this adapter is quite beaten up)
    - Needs a mounting solution for both back and front as there is no filters. (But the HCDNA is similar here are the threads are not standard size)
So, What do you think ?
    I personally think this GB-Kalee needs a rehousing !

    Greetings, Anamorphic Community,
I've been working on trying to restore an "as is" 36 purchase I made in a foggy haze of ebay madness earlier this year. See original listing pic below: (Those are dead bugs under the front element. Yep, dead bugs. The inner elements have what was believed to be either fungus or deteriorated glue.)

After sending it out to a well-known specialist for servicing, it was returned to me with regret that it couldn't be worked on because the front focusing element was not accessible due to tightness in the threads (after the four front screws were removed). Also, the plastic ring w/ label took a little beating in the process, but I'll get to that later.
However, it seems that before sending it back to me, lubricating oil was generously applied inside in the hopes of loosening up the parts, and by the time I was able to inspect it again, the lens was able to open up this far without any tools.

At this point, I have only to attempt to unscrew the inner element housing (2nd from the left) in order to clean the lenses, although I'm a little nervous about alignment after the work. It's very possible I've already set myself up for some extra trial & error work because I pretty much accidentally opened up before I even realized what I was doing, let alone set some markers (or, yes, even some masking tape to protect the glass--will be rectified immediately, I promise).
Anyway, I'm a sort of crossroads here. I could use my spanner wrench to get in there and do the deed myself, or send it back to the service shop to clean, lube and align for several hundred dollars. The other option, however, is to send it to Van Diemen for the $1,100 VI housing (assuming the optics are up to snuff, naturally). What hurts, though, is knowing that the VII exists for more than twice the price. If they ever sold the (what seems to be vastly improved upon) updated version for around $1,500 USD (or even via another batch purchase like Andrew Wonder's in 2014--any takers?) , I'd be in, but right now it'll come in over $2,600--a bit too rich for my blood.
Another option is to go with a half-mod, at an appropriately lower price, but given the age of the current plastic housing (and the unsightliness of the damaged ring--a merely cosmetic, but still costly hit in the hypothetical future of selling my stash for recreational drugs), I'd really like to explore a full-metal body design, despite the weight increase. Also, the improved minimum focus and the shorter focus throw are a given if I'm spending anything more. I know I could file the stopper myself, but the anxiety of either worrying about it separating on me by rotating it too far on a shoot or even popping a hole and screw in the lens just seems too stress-inducing and/or ghetto for what I've already paid. BTW, no offense to anyone ghetto-rigging anything--I just have a knee-jerk reaction to this particular op on this particular class of lens.
Any suggestions/comments/news on the housing front? I heard Rich was developing something a few years ago, but it seems viable options are fairly limited in this understandably niche market. The perfect scenario would be if someone could just 3-D scan the shit out of the current plastic housing parts and simply recreate it out of a far more durable material. Note: I say "simply" because I probably don't know what hell I'm talking about. :D
Best to all, and thanks to everyone for your contributions past, present and future.

    Hello.
I'll maker this short but informative.
Firstly, I sold my FS5 Raw setup - took a big risk, got a GH5 to replace it. The reason was mostly down to portability.
Recently shot an entire paid music video with the GH5 and some stuff on the A6500. I'd never used the GH5 before - it practically just came out the box. Shot in Vlog L. Had an awesome experience.

    Main Pros
IBIS. Much better than the A6500. Invaluable.  Speedbooster XL gives a very different look to typical M43. Sigma ART's + XL = win!  1080p 10bit modes are fantastic. Made the A6500 in 1080p look fuzzy and blurry.  Body design is one of the best I've experienced. Battery grip definitely gives a steadier feel to handling and definitely gives a higher impression to the client. Big impact. VlogL is fairly easy to get into (coming from Slog). Colours are accurate and lovely when graded.  Custom white balance is very quick and easy.  Menu system is pretty nice, especially the My Menu bit. Way better than the A6500.  Small and powerful enough to put straight onto the Zhiyun Crane and Edelkrone Motion Kit.  Battery life is decent (but nowhere near as good as the GH3 - which was ridiculous).  EVF nice and large. Again much better than the A6500.  Full Size HDMI. Yep. Main Cons (I'm being picky here)
CineD skintones - finding it hard to get it where I want. Looks very odd off the bat. I need to work more on this as V-log isn't always the best profile to use.  Photo Style options are very lean (compared to Sony). Not a massive deal, but would be nice to have more options.  Autofocus is essential for my gimbal stuff. A6500 is excellent here. GH5 before V2 firmware is not. Hopefully this is reliable now.  Dynamic range is a bit less and steeper in the rolloff than what I'm used to. Again, need to mess round with things to get it smoother in the grade.  I think the record button is in the wrong place. I just use the shutter button anyway.
    Overall
An absolutely outstanding piece of kit.
I've only used the camera for one shoot, but using this camera has already made a big impression and is already serving my creative choices to a greater level than the FS5 did.
I've not updated the firmware yet, but what Panasonic have give us is an incredibly valuable tool with almost very single feature you could ever ask for, or actually need.
With a great emphasis on online video distribution, and video being consumed on smart devices - if that's how you're playing it, I would say you would never need another camera for a very long time.
If the Autofocus is reliable in V2, it would relegate my A6500 to just a carry around camera.
Got to say, I'm incredibly pleased and looking forward to shooting more.

(see below for quick VlogL grade).

Look at Formula 1 drivers. Usually they're starting out picking up daddy's interest/legacy. Their environment enables them to get into it at a young age, to start with karting and progress to the big leagues. It's about showing interest, having the environment and possibilities to pursue said interest and put it the time and dedication to learn and gain experience in that field. A big part of one's personality or ability is upbringing. And especially at a younger age you're an easy learner, same for languages or picking up stuff like skateboarding. That said, if your interest is with video games rather than playing the piano... more likely you'll be better at the stuff that you're actually interested in. And you might want to play tennis... but it can actually be that you just naturally aren't very gifted at it somehow, it just doesn't come as second nature. Some people's brains are just wired differently, we have different aspirations and abilities that do set us apart. Wanting something alone isn't good enough... it's not a guarantee of it actually happening. But at lot is possible if you put your mind to it, that much is true. And like that kid that followed in his dad's footsteps... just make sure you have the environment and possibilities to grow and put in the time and get the experience to do just that. One step a day might appear insignificant, but you will have come quite the journey over time.

It indeed looks like either part of an optical printer or reconfigured to or from print duplication use. Seen this lens being re-sold 2 or 3 times from different sellers without much time between auctions - which raises alarm bells as to its real practicality for filmmaking use (and where is footage of it at infinity and variable stops?). No doubt the optics are going to be top notch but I'd want to be assured that its focus can hit infinity with that aperture inside (causing added space between optics), since I would presume that lens was always intended for closeup duplication use, as part of a specific optical printer or telecine machine. I suspect that the variable aperture inside the lens is not going to make the image much sharper when coupled with a taking lens, but rather cut the light transmission to the taking lens and dramatically increase vignette.
In a nutshell, if it was the wonder lens that it is supposed to be, where is example footage of it resolving infinity focus and its results when stopping down with its internal aperture?
EDIT: Found an expired eBay auction that sold for $250 that confirms my hunch...
"This is is multiple lens assembly that was used at Deluxe Film Laboratories in Hollywood for 35mm anamorphic conversion to flat formats for theatrical trailers.  It should not be confused with camera or projector lenses.  Printing lenses are ulta sharp intermediate lenses designed to resolve 35mm camera original high resolution color negative without distortion.   The assembly consists consists of three separate lenses, each of which may be separated for individual use:
Isco Lens VII - Base Lens
Isco Anamophis Printing Lense 2x with Manual IRIS Ring (Like F-Stop)
Isco Lens III - Output Lens

I highly doubt the Isco printing lens can hit infinity without stopping it down to a crazy small aperture. You can see from the original configuration that it is basically used for near-macro focus distances, as part of an optical conversion chain. If it could indeed be used for filmmaking use, I would be interested to hear how on earth you would achieve infinity focus.
I think the current seller on eBay is a member of this forum @Hunterj11
perhaps they can shine some light on this lens?

The price is still a little too high for my liking, and I've even been checking out sued C300 Mk2s and saw one go on eBay for 5k. I'm sure that was a scam though.
