  1. 4K may catch on - in about 25 years... just look at the Redbox Top 20 any given week - there are currently only 3 Blu-rays in the top 20 - Argo, Zero Dark Thirty and Skyfall - which are #1, 2 and 3 via DVD! Outside of those of us who do this for a living, no one really cares about 1080 let alone 4K and are very happy watching standard def DVD's on their HD screens.   Almost everyone I know is still watching stretched SD broadcast on their shiny new HD TV even though they're paying for HD! Unless you have DirecTV, the HD channels are still hard to find for John Q. Public and they're not gonna go searching for a 4K channel when it comes available. Sad but true. We're years from the general public fully moving to 1080!   That said I do agree with Zitter that 4K is great for acquisition although the majority of feature films and TV are currently using the Alexa which is NOT 4K...

  3. Andrew Reid

    Insane GoPro short

I really enjoyed watching this as liked the stunt work, locations and props. Good as a POV piece. But I wish they'd used a GH2 with a regular wide angle instead - the fisheye and un-cinematic camera don't really do the shots justice.

  4. All of the things that I thought would be neat to do to a lens to make it more interesting, Rich went out and DID them (as well as a couple of things that I hadn't thought of). I got the one after Andrew's (serial # 005) and personally I cannot wait to get my hands on it. Any day now.

    Insane GoPro short

The preview frame is not representative at all; but nonetheless, this is sweet.  Great use of the GoPro.

  9. Tested out the v1 over the weekend: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cEY9d9D9qCw&hd=1 Fantastic camera, especially for the money. Thank you Andrew for spreading the word about it! So tempted to get a v2... I really want those 10 extra frames + access to non-cx lenses in burst mode + the faster write speeds to the sd card!

  10. Tomekk - I see your posts and don't see the logic in them to be honest.   The 650D was a step back from the 600D in both build quality and features.   So the 700D has the crop mode back. Great. That means the 700D is actually the 600D with a new badge, 2 years later!   Is this progress, really?   My review of the 700D would be very short, in fact - I'll do it now.   EOSHD 700D Review   The Panasonic GH3 out performs it in every way and offers more features for a modest $400 more. The Nikon D5200 doesn't suffer from moire and aliasing and has better image quality in both stills and video mode than the 700D, video on that camera is on par with the $3000 5D Mark III yet it is a $800 camera, an almost identical price point as the 700D.   Those who require a Canon DSLR and have a bunch of EFS lenses can save the money and get the almost identical 600D. The new DIGIC 5 processor brings no new video functionality or image quality.   ENDS   And if the image quality is somehow miraculously good with the same sensor and processor as before I shall eat my words. There's no way Canon will allow this camera to be better than the 6D, 5D Mark III or (especially) the upcoming 7D Mark II.

  14. Dug out my Dads old Canon 50mm F1.2 lens which he used many years ago on his Canon 7s rangefinder camera. I find that it delivers a nice "warm" feel to the videos. For best quality view via Vimeo direct..      https://vimeo.com/59352490

EX.TELE mode None of the lens are in the best of condition and particulary the Leica 50mm is very fogged inside the lens. I made a spot filter for the Thamber as the original was missing when my Dad got the lens years ago. bill

  16. Leica made the Thamber between 1934 & 1940. It was designed to give a soft focus image at certain apertures for portrait work. The middle section of the lens when the lens is stopped down gives a sharp image. As you open up the lens you get the soft section from F2.2 to F6.3. The centre spot filter they made blocks out this sharp centre of the lens giving you an even greater softness. It was my Dad's favorite lens of all time!
