  1. I live on the Detroit River... still plenty of Prohibition-era smuggling relics in this area- secret canals and tunnels and such. Maybe I should get a little dinghy and start making midnight runs for barrels full of bodies and lenses šŸ˜„

  2. If it doesn’t burst into flames or require a portable power station, that PYXIS 12K is going to be a huge winner for them. The fact that they will finally have AF is the icing on the cake.

  3. Yes. I’ve only used it as a studio camera with an ATEM so all I can say is that with a P4K on another ATEM channel they look the same ! I find comparisons between the OG and new Pockets a bit moot as you can get them close enough for jazz visually so at that point it’s all about the rest of the deal. The new Pocket trounces the OG in every metric bar form factor. Depending on what you’re doing with a camera on any given day, the form factor of the OG can make all of the rest of the Pocket goodies irrelevant. The Komodo gave pause for thought over the PYXIS and the new PYXIS has given pause over the Komodo. You know how that goes. The bank balance has given pause over all of them though šŸ˜‚ It remains to be seen what Nikon do as well with a new Cine line too. The Z mount is a great leveller for me because I can put anything on it. L mount is OK but the Z mount smokes it really when you’ve hoarded as many lenses in different mounts as I have.

  4. Pyxis 12K looks really nice. Better than expected. I thought it'd have the same 60p limitations of the UC12K when not powered by 26v, but I think he said 8K open gate was available at up to like 75fps. Also, has the S35 9K mode that I feel doesn't get enough attention. I don't think Petty even mentioned it. Priced at $5k which is a bit painful. Still has a stupid fixed 4" screen on the left side of the body. Once they hit the used market, I will probably trade in my E2-S2G for one.

  5. So far, the Resolve upgrades don't include ProRes RAW, but they are editing footage from a Korn concert in part of it - so... at least they have the glory of 90's Nu Metal going for them.

  6. Broadcast is his true love so he’s moved it up to take precedence in recent launches. For anyone waiting for the cameras it’s like having to sit through ninety minutes of Sting doing his tantric lute albums before he throws everyone a bone with a Police medley in the encore.

  7. I think they could’ve shaved 15 minutes off by having shorter product names. We will definitely be cruising into hour two with the demo of this new ATEM.

  9. It’s going to be like prohibition all over again. The new B&H Photo branch will be a speakeasy selling smuggled camera bodies from Canada.

  11. It is the S5ii as far as I’m aware. I’ve pulled this from a demo of the new functionality and shows switchable contrast and phase detect in the UI. Full video is here Yeah I think it will become clearer what BM’s intentions actually are for the 12K when they are doing demos and interviews at the show itself.

  12. Same as I said about the UC12k, its big and heavy, and eats batteries. Used Alexa classics are so cheap, I'd rephrase and say that I'd get a Pyxis over an Alexa because cost isn't an issue.

  13. Mmm…In terms of AF, it was only actually stated to be coming for the Cine 6K and then by extension, when that firmware is out of beta, for the PYXIS 6K. I’m wondering if a misguided conclusion has been leapt to here by me that it will come to the PYXIS 12K. The other two share the same Sony sensor and it’s one we know to have PDAF capabilities because it’s used in a number of other cameras. The 12K sensor though is all their own work so I don’t know if it actually does?

  14. Exactly, the worst part of the P4K is the body, one of the best parts of the OG is the body. With a different comparison, I saw a video today of the BMMCC6K held up next to the Pyxis and I couldn't believe how big the FF 6K is... it looks bigger than a 1DX and other than form factor, not much smaller than the Pyxis. The Pyxis seems like the obvious choice between the two. I sure do, that's one thing I do know. Ha, I know that even more. I feel like there are so many good cameras out now that you almost can't go wrong, but like always, the best camera is right around the corner and we're just in a betweener stage. Maybe you just need the Z mount Komodo X... problem solved. Canon should just buy BM, and then I can hate them both together.

  15. Fantastic announcement! I'm not a fan of the side screen, and I don't need 12k or even 8k, but a $5k FF camera with <10ms rolling shutter in high quality codecs and (subjectively) amazing color is sweet! Although I suppose we don't know for sure whether the readout speed is the same as the UC12k. The two additions that I would like are NDs and 32 bit dual gain audio. Ideally, NDs could be handled with an L mount version of this. https://www.metabones.com/products/details/MB_NDEF-E-BM7. 32 bit audio is of course very easy with the minor annoyance of syncing in post. Another recent announcement was the H5studio, which has a builtin wireless receiver module, which I find extremely interesting. So all things considered, this basically hits everything I'd want from a cinema camera, with a few accessories. While probably not something I would get, I'm quite impressed with the camcorder handle and grip. What a great idea (this is me patting myself on the back--I 3D printed something similar for my Z Cam. Of course mine was shit execution, but it was the same idea).

  16. Yes, it’s full control. I mean it’s not uber cheap but it’s a very convenient non flappy HDMI connected monitor. For anything outside the studio the Micro 4K is a bit of a bust to be honest but now it’s not. For people mad enough to also buy that PYXIS 12K it does double duty. Not that I’m mad enough to buy the new PYXIS 12K of course….

  17. Being a diva, I’m still annoyed about the Bluetooth not being switched on ! I’m going to get that monitor ASAP.

  20. They also mentioned earlier that Resolve 20 will be announced. I'm really hoping that they are finally breaking down and adding ProRes RAW now that it's not "that Atomos thing" and instead, it's "That DJI and Panasonic natively in camera" thing.

  21. By the by, that EF-S 18-135mm and PZ E-1 combo is a pretty good and cost effective used combo for anyone looking to do a roll your own Cinecorder solution.

  22. The problem with what you're saying here, and in other places above here, is that it's actually wrong. Student loan forgiveness, sure, but a lot of Democrats including Kamala didn't run on LGBTQ rights (sure, her platform supported it, but it wasn't exactly a big topic in her speeches), global warming, or whatever other bogeyman your neighbors might think they did. Democrats, including Harris, ran a center right campaign. Their biggest mistake, I think, was in trying to appeal to people like your neighbors and the people in the South and Southwest who will never vote for them. In doing so, they lost a whole lot of people on the left who are already not enthusiastic about voting for them. Anyway. The way Democrats would win some elections would be to actually do something. When they're in power in Washington, they start claiming that they can't get anything done because Republicans are blocking them with procedural shenanigans or other similar stuff. Now they're in the minority and claiming they can't do anything to block the Republicans. Hell, Schumer and some others voted for the budget reconciliation package without demanding even a single concession. Here in Minnesota, they got a lot more popular a few years ago because they finally had the trifecta of state house/state senate/governor for the first time in like 20 years and they decided to actually use their power to do things like add universal free lunch at schools. It's one of the reasons that Walz was so popular that they decided to try to make him the VP. The Republicans lose an election and they're in courts fighting it, on the news claiming that the other side cheated, etc. The Democrats lose an election and they shake the other person's hand and say "good game." Basically, the powers that be seem to think that it's 40-50 years ago and politics as usual.

  23. Was excited to hear about the internal raw recording in the Z5ii and then a little less excited when I watched the Gerald Undone video... and then when he started showing real world footage, he was literally wearing a Sony Alpha jacket while recording a Nikon review... why are these competing companies sending him these cameras? That said, the review was fine, raw implementation in an IBIS body, with decent AF, at this price has been a dream of mine, but it seems like there are so many gotchas that I am left bewildered why these companies even use raw? If your'e going to add NR, then what's the point of a smoothed over raw file? I shoot raw because I prefer the gritty textures that feel like you could reach into the frame and touch it. I said in the Komodo price drop thread that I wouldn't be a customer, but at the current price, maybe I'd be better off saving up for a Komodo. Theoretically, that camera could provide a viable image for the next 5-10 years for me. And with all that said, it is still exciting to see raw video to an internal SD, with these features, at this price point. When I read this post, I had already thought about posting my FP up for sale and preorder the Nikon, now I'll wait to see how it does with more serious shooters in the coming weeks/months. The FP lives to see another day.

  24. Oh, cool! I'm super excited! One of my primary hesitations about the Pyxis was rolling shutter, but CineD tested the 12k sensor at just 5.5ms in 8k and 4k, more than fast enough. My writing partner and I are considering the UC 12k for our next project, but frankly, a Pyxis body fits a small crew better. If it's identical to the Pyxis with that sensor for $5k or less, it may be a winner for us! (Our other ideas at the moment are: used Red Komodo for ~$2.8k, or C500 Mk II for ~$5.2k, with the obvious benefit of the C500 being NDs + included EVF)

I'd love to get a Pentax 645D or 645Z, but even at their greatly reduced secondhand prices (vs their original RRP) I still can't justify buying one for what they're going for today. (just checked out their prices again, they seem to have gone up?? Has a youtuber/influencer started talking about them again???) Am also a little tempted to get the Nikon D200 or D2X, simply because it was "the best" CCD camera that Nikon ever got. But more realistically, rather than a 645D/645Z/D200/D2X, then I see the Nikon D700 as being the most likely old camera I'm possibly going to get this year or next, depending on if I can spot the right super bargain or not here in NZ. Yikes, their ebay pricing is through the roof! (especially so for a 2004 camera. At around two grand USD, or a little more or a little less)

The only camera so good, I bought it 3 times! And then went on to the S, the T and the F. After that, I flipped to X Pro2. I do miss those days and it’s a scenario I have considered many many times and may go back to next year, ie, a pair of small, light bodies with a pair of primes or a single do it all such as this new Fuji which screams to me, OG X100 on steroids. Only 3 Q’s really: 1. Is that enough lens for me? I would have preferred something a little faster and a little longer. Had it been f2 and 40mm full frame equivalent, it would be perfect for me. 2. Can I live without IBIS and/or is there any electronic stab? Probably yes because none of my cameras up to and including XT3 had it except the XH1 and that was very basic. 3. Could I justify trading pretty much my entire stills kit for this and also factor in having to buy a Fuji X camera with a longer lens for a couple of things I where even with 100mp, it would be a crop too far. Possibly yes is the answer. Would it be a fun camera? Fuck yeah. And then some.
