Olympus have been helpfully telegraphing their future strategy in Israel. With Olympus having said that the E-5 would be their last DSLR and with Sony also turning their back on the optical viewfinder, the inevitable future is now in full swing (sush – nobody wake up Canon and Nikon!) Now a previously confidential presentation shows what that future might look like.
UPDATE – Added movie mode still frame grab at 1080p from GH2 and GF2 with same 14mm F2.5 pancake lens. GH2 is better, and it’s sensor is slightly larger too. View full resolution on Flickr here. Sony will eliminate the optical viewfinder on all future DSLRs. Sony Spain let slip in a presentation that the Japanese electronics giant plans to release all future Alpha DSLRs with the SLT translucent mirror technology found on the A33 and A55. No more optical viewfinders and traditional mirror-box DSLRs from Sony. In fact the name ‘DSLR’ will be consigned to history and replaced with Alpha SLT.
