Canon are developing their own RAW codec for 2K and 4K video. In a patent filed in July 2010 and published yesterday, Canon describe a codec which stores raw sensor data from a 12bit high resolution RGB sensor with Bayer colour filter array.
Nikon are taking pre-orders for the D4. But based on the sample videos so far, if you are interested in using one for video I’d hold off.
It puzzle me why Nikon would want to put out such poor quality files for prospective D4 owners.
I can’t imagine Nikon taking a bunch of 640×480 JPEGs and claiming these are representative of the amazing output of their new DSLR so why do it with video?
UPDATE: The lens is now available from Samyang’s international dealer based in Poland. Buy it now
The new full frame Samyang 25mm F1.4 ED AS UMC will be released in the first week of February according to Samyang’s official Facebook page, where the first samples images have also been posted.
David Cole of BeamPath (3D rig builders) kindly shot this footage. This comparison is just for fun. This is for informational purposes to show what the GH2 looks like with this particular scene, against a $10,000 digital cinema camera. I have set the video to stream in 1080p if you full screen it, but for best results download the original and play it back on the best display you have available.
Photographer Stephen Oachs ran into a Japanese man on Safari in Kenya testing two new lenses and two of Canon’s new DSLRs. One is of the likes we’ve not seen before.
Those who ordered the Metabones EOS E-Mount adapter are in for an unpleasant surprise. It doesn’t work with the Sony NEX 5N and 7.
David Cole of 3D rig builders Beampath have a new 3D rig based on the Panasonic GH2 and RED Scarlet, which has also given him an excellent excuse to put the GH2 and Scarlet into battle. Says David “I gotta say that the hacked GH2 should not be embarrassed to be on the same bar”.
How exactly does the Scarlet and GH2 compare? EOSHD pixels peeps…

Steve Jobs –
“If you don’t cannibalize yourself, someone else will.”
