Masters of darkness – Panasonic GH5S and Sony A7R III in extreme low light

Note: My camera is running firmware version 0.2! If the performance changes when updated, I will re-do the test

Does the Panasonic GH5S finally achieve full-frame like performance at ISO 12,800 against the best of the competition?

Here I put the little nocturnal fox in the ring with the Sony A7R III, A7S II, Nikon D850 and the plain old ‘non-video-orientated’ GH5.

An update on the NX-L speed booster for the Samsung NX1

The Samsung NX1 is at this moment in time the best value for money 4K Super 35mm camera with the best ergonomics and autofocus.

I still end up using my NX1 more than my Sony A6500 and Fuji X-T20, which pale into insignificance vs what Samsung did nearly 3 years ago.

Now the NX-L speed booster has developed further since my last article and I’ve been shooting a lot more with it.

This is a marvellous example of what a single filmmaker can make out of thin air shot with real-world subject matter the film industry would consider “nothing”, using a tool that most pros would think is barely beyond “nothing” too.
