Panasonic will split their lens range into high end and low end, in much the same way Canon does with their L lenses. The Lumix high-end optics will be designated Lumix X.
Above: Panasonic intend to mimic a compact camera motorised retractable zoom but on an interchangeable lens camera. According to one of my sources in Europe, Panasonic are preparing new lenses and it seems one is like we’ve never seen before on a DSLR or mirrorless.
A patent filing from 2009 and published on the 30th June 2011 reveals Panasonic have a prototype consumer camcorder with interchangeable lens mount!
Panasonic are in talks with Epson to provide cutting edge new display technology for the EVF in the GH3. The news comes from a recent interview with Panasonic’s Ichiro Kitao at the launch of the GF3. It was a change of tone from last year when Panasonic spoke of the GH2 as a niche camera. Now they say, it is a ‘flagship’ and ‘very important’.
In a new interview with Photography Blog, Panasonic talk G series. The new $699 G3 kit will be released this summer and features the much needed aluminium body. Would like to see this on the GH3.
If you are thinking of buying an Atomos Ninja for your GH2, it is probably best to wait for the hack. A few weeks ago I ended up researching how to extract 24p from Sony FS100 footage delivered via a 60i signal to an Atomos Ninja for Philip Bloom and came across some information about the GH2’s HDMI output which I wasn’t aware of previously.
This tip will give you a 1 stop brighter exposure, a punchier image and better colour from your GH2 / AF100 and GH1. Don’t miss it.
