Got lost in the woods during filming

Recommended Posts

Been shooting out in the forest last sunday with the Contax Zeiss 35-70 f3.4 and 80-200 f4. The 100-300 which is supposed to be better has yet to arrive. I find that 80-200 is much better without a teleconverter attached to it, much more crisp images. Graded using filmconvert and loving it. I think the contax glass lineup compliments what filmconvert tries to do.

On a sidenote, I got lost during filming couple of times in the bush. I think I got disoriented while trying to avoid the race tracks. There was no signal and phone battery was on 5%. I hated myself for walking into the forest so unprepared. Almost went to the point of panic until I eventually found my way back. Never knew I would need orienteering skills for filming. Thank god I took minimal gear that day. Below is the video

EOSHD Pro Color for Sony cameras EOSHD Pro LOG for Sony CamerasEOSHD C-LOG and Film Profiles for All Canon DSLRs

You've got some pretty cool actions shots in there. Mostly in the 2nd half of the video in my opinion. I really love the shot at 2:42!

Overall I think it is too long. I don't like the intro. Some of the slow motion scenes are boring (when nothing spectacular is happening, slomo is just annoying).

And I want to hear those engines scream...! Even if you didn't record proper audio, maybe you can try to put some of the internal audio under the music?

I think a shorter cut, with just the action, only the best shots, and some engine sound, would make a pretty good action video.

Hi Julian, thanks for the feedback. I agree with you 100% but the thing is this was a favor for a friend so naturally I had to include all the shots of his daughter's team to full extent haha. Thats why those odd long shots are there. I would say he's some sort of a client even though he's not paying me or anything. I also agree about the engine sounds but I just couldn't get a consistent track together because half the time I was too far away from the riders to capture any decent volume sound and the slomo mode doesn't capture any sound on the GH4. If I had enough time to edit I would've sort of faked it with sounds from other shots but had to edit in a day.

Anyways really appreciate the comment and your honest opinion. It's really something I value as most people don't care enough to be honest about my work. Thank you.

Rarely used this bad boy, mainly bought it for my wedding a couple years back. Other than that it’s in great condition. Will sell it with the battery and the 32GB SD.

Hi folks. Been trying to consolidate my gear lately so here's a bunch of stuff for sale. Feel free to message me for more pics/information.
Up first is the venerable Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 lens (Canon EF mount) also included as an extra is brand new cinemorph anamorphic filter from Vid-Atlantic. Lens is in great shape, comes front and rear caps, hood, protective case and original box.
      $675

      Nikkor 28mm f2.8 AI-s
Andy Lee has called this lens one of the greatest wide angles ever made by Nikon, extremely little distortion, and truly impressive almost macro-like close focus. This one has been loved a bit, but glass is clean and scratch free, no fungus or haze. Aperture blades do sho just the tiniest bit of oil, but they're snappy and open and close just fine.
      $125

      Edelkrone QuickRelease One.

I bought this after Matthias Burling reviewed it, but it never quite fit into my workflow the way I hoped it would. Cool piece of kit for run and gun though. Comes with original case as well.
      $40

Zeiss Jena Flektogon 35mm f/2.4 (RED MC Version)
This lens is in absolutely PERFECT condition. I just had it completely disassembled by professionals and they cleaned the optics and regreased the focus mechanism so there is not even a speck of dust to be seen. This lens is very well-regarded, and is widely considered to be the very best of the East German Zeiss lenses. Superb close focus, wonderful character.
      $325

      Samsung NX 30mm f/2
Great shape, front and rear lens caps, sharpest prime for NX system.

      Samsung NX 50-200mm OIS III
Third and latest edition of this very nice, compact, convenient kit zoom for the NX system. If you can't afford the 50-150mm and just need the extra reach, this lens is worth it.
      $150

Sigma 30mm f1.4 Nikon mount (with Canon adapter/aperture lever)
This lens is in flawless condition. I bought it but ended up never using it, comes with original box, lens caps, warranty information, very clean.
      $200

      Mint condition Panasonic GH4

The GH4 is like new, only 1332 exposures and maybe 50 hours of video- almost all of it indoors. It comes with two factory batteries, the original charger and shoulder strap.

My ebay profile is kineticdg1, I have 100% positive feedback.

I never shot with any format other than internal gh4 4k and need to shoot client footage who is requesting 4k Log ProRes LT footage to be used by news. I currently own a GH4 and lenses. Wanted to know what I needed to deliver this type of footage. Should I get an external recorder or buy a GH5s? Can gh5s shoot this internally? Thanks
