I've cleaned the thread of most of the non footage posting stuff.

It was arbitrary job, apologies if your post has disappeared, but the thread need to be mostly footage links and footage requests in order to serve its purpose properly.

This is proving to be a valuable resource. Feel free to continue discussion, just be aware that it may be cleaned up intermittently to keep the thread useful to newcomers.

Please try to keep your links alive insofar as you can.

Here is some original footage from the Canon XC10.

The white balance is off, dull cloudy daylight coming in from the right in a low kelvin tungsten environment, which allows you to test pushing the grade around.

Autofocus, maximum available stabiliser. ISO500

4K - 1GB file - https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/9922139/A004C004_150124YQ_CANON.MXF

1080p - 110mb file - https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/9922139/A003C007_1501247H_CANON_01.MXF

I prefer 1080 for the most part, the oversampling 1080 is nicer than 4K bayer for me.

Here you go, BMPCC TIFFs and D16 DNGs.
REMEMBER: This was the old D16 firmware, with the old Matrix, therefor it must be switched to BMCC or preferably BMPC4K Gamma. Otherwise its very magenta.
You can do so i Resolve or After Effects if you have the BMDFilm converter.

Here is some 5D Mark III Raw that show its Dynamic Range.

In the shot I closed the blinds behind me so the window infront is basically the only light source.
So yeah, very much backlit. Same in camera settings on all, exposed with ND.

In my examples I set the highlights and shadows the same on all, then I boosted the mids as far as I thought was somewhat usable.
I used highlight recovery for the clips with blown highlights.
No grading.

(Please note that resolve interoperates WB wrong, so set it manually.)

Number 1:
ETTR, no highlights blown at all.

After

Number 2:
ETTR Medium, some blown highlights outside, great job by the recovery.

After

Number 3:
ETTR Low, Blew almost the entire window.

After (look at them clouds returning :) )

Dropped a LUT on the last one just to give an idea. Not adjusted.

imo 5d3 raw is somehow simultaneously the most real image around and the prettiest

it makes the ordinary extraordinary. a few seconds in post with ETTR_low and it starts looking like a vermeer

how do you like it, mattias? ive been looking forward to hearing your thoughts

I like it. Cant really think of anything negative to say really. Lots of positive though.

Here are some files from the JVC LS300. Checkout the thread with he review for more info.

One is a test of the Dynamic Range. It was shot in s35 with a m4/3 kit lens so there is s one severe barrel distortion, but no vignette.
The other is a portrait of Gunpowder with a vintage Yashikor 55mm

My advice for grading is to treat it as Rec709 and don't push the shadows to much. The mids and highlights can take more of a beating.

DR test Ungraded
No highlights blown, sky is preserved for the sake of the test.
