  1.  Hello filmmakers!   For a limited time my first feature, Bad Vs Worse will be available free to watch. It was shot entirely on the rebel t2i for a budget of six grand. My goal is to build a fan base and gain some recognition for my skills as a filmmaker. Unfortunately, due to the length it's not the HD version but hey, can't have it all.   2. I finally picked up a transfer box from ebay to convert some old 8mm films I have acquired over the years. I used my GH2 and it seems to do a pretty good job. This was the first time I used this particular setup. I had shot a couple Super 8mm films in film school, and we transferred to digital much in the same way. The setup wasn't completely ideal, I did it in my kitchen during the day, so there was a fair amount of ambient light. And then my roommate's dogs started barking during one. There are some under/over exposed parts that I'd like to go back and reshoot to get more detail. These are the raw video files, only converted for uploading. Once I get the workflow set, I'll crop it. Hi there,   I am currently working on a research project for my final year in university where I study film production.   The paper is called "The Evolution of the Cinema Camera" and will discuss the technological advancements within the cameras through the decades. In particular though it will focus on the move from 35mm film to digital.   For the project I have been talking to various D.O.P's and also camera companies such a Panavision, Arri and RED, and getting their opinions on the change from 35mm to digital.    However, with digital now the primary choice for shooting a film, companies such as Canon began creating DSLR's with video shooting capability and with that came a new type of film making. It is this type I wish to speak with you all about today.   I want to know your opinions on DSLR film making and how you think it stands up to industry standard digital cameras. Do you think the market is being flooded by films shot on a DSLR that have no real quality to them or do you think DSLR film making has opened the doors to people being able to do what they want and create their film?   Why do you think people went from film to digital? Was it because it is cheaper and faster to work with or something else?   If you had the choice to work with either format which would you pick? Film or digital?   What do you think is next for the film making world? Digital cameras are now shooting extreme resolutions such as the RED Epic being able to shoot in 5K and 3D is beginning to show the world it is not just a fad as more and more films are now being shot in it and not just post-converted. What do you think the next big 'thing' will be?   I also created a poll which you are welcome to do if you wish? It simply asks the question, "Which do you prefer?   5. Hey guys, just thought you might be interested in this.. We've been working on "The Layer" for about two years total and it's about ready to hit the internet/festivals. It is a 45 minute, conspiracy thriller shot entirely in Harrisburg, PA.  Here's the official trailer we released a few days ago.  http://youtu.be/5RNWizIsUIY We shot about 90% of the film on the Panasonic GH2 with vintage nikon glass (50mm 1.8, 24mm 2.8), a Lumix zoom lens and a few, newer, SLR magic lenses (35mm 1.7, 26mm 1.4 toy). The other 5% was shot on a Canon 7D. Reason being, that we had one scene which we chose to shoot a three camera setup in order to minimize our time at a specific location.  All the actors were volunteers who got involved simply to get their names out there. We had a lot of fun problem solving and shooting a rather complex storyline over a long time span.  Because nobody was getting paid we were forced to shoot over a 9 month period, in between regular life. This meant that the actors had to be extremely confident in their characters and the plot. There was no "emerson experience" at all.  Our post production workflow looks something like this: Edit in Premiere. VFX in AE and 3DS Max. Sound Design/Mix in Audition. Color Grade using Colorista II & a little Film Convert.  The music has been a massive collaboration between tons of different people/bands.  It's been a phenomenal, nerve wracking, wouldn't trade it for the world, type of experience.  Hope you enjoy!  Cheers, L u k e https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Layer/299035466891951?fref=ts

Typically I have been shooting DV on my Panasonic DVX-100B, but since more and more people(potential clients) have asked me to shoot DSLR I figured it might be time to buy something for those times. I'm not looking to break the bank just yet, just a good all around body that I can start getting some great lenses for.   It appears to be coming down to 3 choices: the Canon 60D, Nikon D5200, or the Nikon D7000. If anyone can share their experiences and thoughts on each it would really be helpful. I've practically spent the last week looking at reviews and screen tests, so I just need some opinions to go along with what I've read so far.   So with that in mind I would really appreciate everyones help with this decision.   8. https://vimeo.com/59642343 Used Equipment: Canon C100 Zeiss CP2 18mm/35mm/85mm “A human being is only breath and shadow.†– Sophocles This quote from Sophocles inspired me to shoot this short film. It was a really nice experience to work with Canon C100. I pushed the ISO up to 4000 because i wanted to see how much noise will be generated. Of course there is some grain in the picture but the low light ability of the Canon C100 is still amazing. Working with the Compact Prime Lenses was uncomplicated. The Magnifier Button, which operates also during recording is an amazing tool. The form factor of the C100 is very handy and you are able to make your shots in a quick and comfortable way.

Hello everyone, We are planning to shoot a very low budget feature film this summer and I have some questions on the camera set we will use and I hope you can help me on some of the following: 1. The 16:9 sensor on the GH2 + a 2x anamorphic adapter produces a final stretched anamorphic aspect of 3.55. Which would result in (1920x1080)*(2)= 3840x1080. Instead of doing the decompression from 2x, I want to interpret the shot as if pixels would be 1.333 or 1.4587. I know it keeps the image still a little deform but I think I like the look. Whats your technical and/or creative take on it? (SEE IMAGES BELOW) 2. We would project it on standard 2k (2048×1080) DCP cinemas and the final cut would fit into it with a 2048x858 (2.39:1) size movie. Am I right? or does it work in another way? 3. I am currently using Sedna AQ1 for max detail against anamorphic softening against big screen projection. Do you think it will hold enough? Would you sharpen in post? Whats you recommend any other hack? Given this 3 points which would be your opinion on this process? Have any of you seen any gh2 anamorphic content projected in 2k dcp? How does it stand? One of the niches we think we can best serve is indie film and videomakers, such as yourselves. Shot on Sony NEX-FS100 (AVCHD), with Canon 55mm f/1.2 FD, Zeiss 28mm f/2.0 ZE, Zeiss Flektogon 35mm f/2.4 M42, and Sony 16mm f/2.8 E-mount. Some shots were done with a 58mm vid-atlantic cinemorphic filter for the stretched bokeh. Most shots were converted via 5DtoRGB Batch. Hope you'll enjoy this.     Hey all, I've been messing around with the demo for this program, and I must say, it's pretty impressive....As an absolute novice at grading, it can certainly get me the look I'm after without much fuss. Too bad they only have a plugin version for the PC. (can't recall where I read it) I'd love to see Andrew do a full-fledged review and put it though it's paces.... Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

One of the things we're looking to do is get businesses in our city to think a bit differently about how they can utilize online video. Most of it was shot initially using cheap E series Nikon glass and a Sigma 50mm 1.4, and about 30% of it was shot using our zeiss glass. There's maybe 6 or 7 shots that were captured on a 7D.
