1. Would you recommend me a good 35mm taking lens that can go wide open but still sharp enough for use with a Kowa 8z on a gh2. What would be the sharpest lens possible for that combination? What would be the best/reasonably cheap option? Any recommendations accepted. What hack would you use for sharpest image. Sedna Aq1? Thanks!
2. Hello friends, I'd like to share this free 35mm film grain plate: http://vegasaur.com/free-35mm-film-grain Feel free to use it in your projects! http://vimeo.com/59249383
3. This is old news that some may not have figured out. The speed boosters for the APS-C and M43 both use the same magnification of 0.71x despite the difference in crop factor. This means a 35mm lens adapter with speed booster will work out as: 35 * 0.71 = 24.85 For APS-C: 24.85 * 1.5 = 37.275mm For M43: 24.85 * 2 = 49.7mm This essentially means that on Micro Four Thirds, lenses adapted with speed booster end up close to the focal length if you were to just attach the lens to an APS-C camera (because a 35mm lens on APS-C becomes 52.5mm once you calculate the 1.5x crop). Granted you still get the extra aperture stop from the speed booster, but it's still a shame that the focal length isn't closer to actual 35mm full frame. Do you think there will be a company out that will engineer a 0.5x magnification adapter? PS: Will the bokeh circles of a 17.5mm f0.95 be the same size as those on a 35mm f2 lens? PSS: Anyone have any recommendations on small manual lenses in 28mm, 35mm and 50mm focal lengths with apertures wider than f2?
4. Shot a short video with the Lomo Anamorphic 35mm Square Front on the GH3. It's true that the OCT18 version is difficult to work with, so I managed to make it work. The close-ups were shot with hand-held Hoya diopters. The simple rig that I used. ( )
5. Reading through the shoother guide book I notice Andrew refers to the ML 50D as a Super 35mm raw shooting cinema camera, and this confuse me a bit, I know that within the ML you can set the camera to do a 4:3 crop mimicking the crop of a 35mm film yeah but the relationship with the optics is still like a crop sensor camera right? I mean the sensor is not getting any bigger so you still suffer from not being able to use all the glass and so having to do the Focal Length multiplication. I also noticed Andrew recommends using 64gb cards but frankly I can't afford them right now so are 32gb cards still fine? I will be working with a PC close so I will be able to upload the data while working. Thanks in advance. PD: I decided to make a forum trend after mailing this to Andrew after noticing that he doesn't like to be asked this questions by mail so sorry for that!!
6. Hey all. This is the first thing that I've shot with the GH3. It's a commercial for a technology company. I'm loving the combo of the camera and this lens. Check it out.   https://vimeo.com/61824609
7. Hi there,   I am currently working on a research project for my final year in university where I study film production.   The paper is called "The Evolution of the Cinema Camera" and will discuss the technological advancements within the cameras through the decades. In particular though it will focus on the move from 35mm film to digital.   For the project I have been talking to various D.O.P's and also camera companies such a Panavision, Arri and RED, and getting their opinions on the change from 35mm to digital.    However, with digital now the primary choice for shooting a film, companies such as Canon began creating DSLR's with video shooting capability and with that came a new type of film making. It is this type I wish to speak with you all about today.   I want to know your opinions on DSLR film making and how you think it stands up to industry standard digital cameras. Do you think the market is being flooded by films shot on a DSLR that have no real quality to them or do you think DSLR film making has opened the doors to people being able to do what they want and create their film?   Why do you think people went from film to digital? Was it because it is cheaper and faster to work with or something else?   If you had the choice to work with either format which would you pick? Film or digital?   What do you think is next for the film making world? Digital cameras are now shooting extreme resolutions such as the RED Epic being able to shoot in 5K and 3D is beginning to show the world it is not just a fad as more and more films are now being shot in it and not just post-converted. What do you think the next big 'thing' will be?   I also created a poll which you are welcome to do if you wish? It simply asks the question, "Which do you prefer? Film or digital?" and then gives you the option to pick which. The link for this is below:   http://www.easypolls.net/poll.html?p=515b2863e4b0ecbcda3739ce   Feel free to comment and share this post, the more opinions I gather the better. Also if you have experience in working in both film and digital and would like to be part of the project itself then please get in touch and I will arrange an interview with you.   Thanks guys!   Dan.
8. The Iscomorphot 8/1.5x doesn't seem to have a really good taking lens.   I thought I'd take a stab at finding one.   I recently picked up a Nikkor-O 35mm f/2 lens that I heard worked wonders with the Baby Bolex on a GH2. I assumed that it would have similar vignetteing characteristics as they have the same screw size on the back. Turns out that serious vignetting kicks in below f/4 on a GH2 (probably won't set in on a GH3 until 5.6) but this combo has the least smearing I have seen with the Iscomorphot. This combo smears a hell of a lot less than when it's on the Helios 44-2.   Here's the comparison I did between the Nikkor-O and Helios with a Voigtlander Nokton 25/0.95 (all Voigtlander shots are the same picture, put next to the others for easier reference).   https://benwabbott.minus.com/lFF8XQjURfUTx   Tomorrow I'll do a better comparison by rolling through the apertures on each in video form.
9. http://vimeo.com/57817375   (password: baller)   ...I put the password on it so that the seriously, seriously boring footage wouldn't be cluttering up my vimeo.  It's just that I was surprised that a stop this big worked at all with the Century Optics adapter.
10. Why can't I have HD in embedded videos... https://vimeo.com/57319379
11. Hi I am not using my Olympus 45mm a lot because of problems with my follow focus. Lens is almost new and has been used just a couple of times. Olympus M.Zuiko Digital Telefotolens - 45 mm - F/1.8 - Micro Four Thirds Its a great lens but it is just to small for on my rig. I want to try the Samyang 35mm f1.4 (Canon mount please) and i am willing to trade my Olympus lens. Or sell it.... Ofcourse i know the Samyang costs more (new) so make me a offer :)
