You definitely understand my stuggle right now!
I do have the XT3, its my main photo camera and I love it. I have never updated it so I will give that a good scouts try today.
After reading through, it seems like if there was a S5 that existed that had RAW output and a significantly improved AF that would be my ticket. Maybe a MK2.

I'm with you. I think reliable autofocus is key to shooting on a singlehanded gimbal, unless you're locking the focus and maintaining the right distance from your subject. Of course, I'm not the best gimbal operator and prefer handheld shooting.
I personally don't think pulling focus with a wireless system on a single handed gimbal is all that great an idea for a single shooter. If I were doing a lot of gimbal shooting and wanted to pull focus for myself, I'd probably build out my Ronin-S, or an S2, with a ring grip and Easy Rig type backpack stabilizer or the Tilta Float -- basically a support system that transfers some/all of the gimbal weight to my core so my right hand can focus on framing the shot and my left could run the focus wheel without having to provide stability. And of course I'd rig my Ninja V or another monitor to pull focus from instead of the camera's rear screen.
Both of those solutions are spendy and the bulkiness/rigging complications dilutes the simplicity of a good small gimbal. On the other hand, the type of shots you can get with a Arri Trinity style stabilizer system are dope. If I did a lot of music video content, I'd definitely buy the Tilta Float, which can work with the Ronin-S. Since I personally shoot mostly doc-style stuff, I'll probably going the Easy Rig route.
Do you still have the X-T3? If so, maybe make sure the firmware is up to the new version and play with autofocus settings for each lens you want to use to see if you can find a sweet spot for your intended use.

I'm not sure why you couldn't have flown your X-T3 on the Ronin S and done everything that the a6500 did, aside from perhaps a difference in AF in some situations. The Fujis are certainly going to give you better AF than the S5, and the latest firmware increases the AF to X-T4 levels.

In comparing the two, I think the Canon focal reducer/ speed booster needs to be added to the equation. Not only would that make it more equal in price, but it makes the c70 essentially full frame.
There is a technical difference of course; while the focal reducer increases field of view and brightness, it doesn't change the DOF. Personally, I think that's a plus. I'd prefer the unique flexibility in gaining a stop in light without the accompanying razor-thin plane of focus. Just more practical.

I'm not a C70 or FX6 shooter, but I gotta say, nothing new here. Yes, the Sony leads in low light/low light AF and the electronic ND. But, as has been discussed on YouTube and on this site and others endlessly, and in the video itself, there are other factors to consider, including ergonomics, noise, dynamic range, timecode availability, xlr port placement, etc. In the end, as with most near competitors, the whether one camera is "better" than the other based on an individual shooter's workflow, experience with a brand's ecosystem, shooting style and the lenses and other gear they already own.
Both cameras can produce pretty great images, in the end. Like the dude in the video says, it's about the system you have/want to go with.

You're right about the additional powering solution. Fixed on a tripod indoors for something like a livestream or studio shoot, it's no problem to run it off mains power with the included power adaptor. For mobile shoots, you can turn that particular lemon into lemonade by using a V-mount battery or an NP-F battery with USB and DC outlets to also power you camera (with a dummy battery or a USB-C cable) and even another accessory. I have one rig built up with mini-cine style with a V-mount and two of the super cheap Powerextra 48 Wh batteries for my more minimalistic setup and they work great.
The balance can be an issue with a heavy battery up high if you go the NP-F route. I personally tend to mount the monitor off to the left on that rig either on top of a side handle or just using a magic arm as a field-expedient side handle off the nato rail built into the side of my cage.
If you go with a side handle or just on top of the camera/cage/top handle, do yourself a favor and use a monitor mount like Smallrig's that you can tighten with an allen key. Regular ball heads will always come loose. I think I'm going to try one of the Nitzi mounts because they tighten with an allen key AND are the only monitor mounts I've found with Arri-style locating pins. I'm not sure why no one else has them. The monitor is built for them and why wouldn't you want to it in so it won't twist when you are trying to swivel it?! Even the ballhead I got from Atomos kit doesn't have them for crying out loud.
Anyway, probably deeper into the weeds than you were interested in. But there you go.

Man, I wish that I was there now (my best friend lives in Wellington).

Here in Brazil will be probably the most tragical month in the last decades. The Amazon corona variant looks VERY deadly and transmissible - we had the first 200.000 deaths in the first 11 months, and the next 50.000 in...two months.

Cities around here with 200.000 to 300.000 people had already collapsed - there are no more ICU units available. Zero. People are starting already dying waiting for a ICU unit.

I live in São Paulo, the biggest city here (12 million people), and there are no more ICU units it the 5 biggest private hospitals of the city. Public hospital will have no more units soon too. The death rate of 30-40 year old people (with no comorbities) are climbing steadily. Only in the past week, 4 relatives of friends of mine had died of Covid.

Vaccination? EUA is giving around 2 million shot per day. We have 6 million...since Jan 17th.

And our president continues to sabotage any big vaccination effort. The most available vaccine that we have is the chinese Coronavac, but it refuses to buy too much of it because it is made by a state facility from the local governor, which is his political adversary (and another SOB). It refuses to get the Pfizer one too.Only moved to get 20 million doses fron Indian Covaxin because...the negotiation have a middle company the is involved in various cases of corruption. And only shows in public without masks (even getting children in his lap), saying that masks causes "suffocation" and don't prevent Covid.

The result: Brasil is becoming an open field to Covid evolve, due to the lack of vaccination - with a low percentage of people vaccinated, it becomes easier to the virus to evolve by natural selection. We will become a threat, and probably will become pariahs in the world.

I just want to be alive in 2022, since is almost certain that I will not be vaccinated in 2021 (i'm almost 50 years old).

None of us live in a prison. None of us are slaves. If you think otherwise you lack perspective and, again, display your privilege.
Those that think the efforts didn't work don't know how to read and interpret data. In the United States the states that acted quickly did significantly better than those that didn't. The top ten states that had the lowest number of infections per million all faired better than the states that didn't, regardless of the size and population, because they mandated masks, limited gatherings, put caps on how many people can be in stores, etc. This idea that it didn't save lives is absolute fiction.
Take a look for yourself, you can sort everything by the numbers: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/
Countries like Vietnam faired much better because those countries have always practiced things like wearing masks because they've experienced outbreaks before. Even before the pandemic you'd see many people wearing masks in public in Asian countries. People point to these countries and make foolish statements like "Vietnam didn't have to live in a prison" without even looking into what they actually did do. Firstly Vietnam set up quarantine centers where hundreds of thousands of people were forced to quarantine. Secondly if you actually look at what those countries did, you'd realize that most of it was the same stuff people here in the US and Europe complain about: aggressive testing, aggressive contact tracing, and quarantine. Source: https://ourworldindata.org/covid-exemplar-vietnam
In short, aside from using false equivalency, you really have no clue what you're talking about and simply read stuff from other people that also don't know what they're talking about and then repeat it.

You can probably find/rent a Ninja V pretty easy up in PDX. I've got two down here in Eugene. If you were close enough to make it worth while, I'd let you play with one for a few hours to see if it is something you'd be interested in using and/or rent you one when you needed it. I use them with Fuji X-Ts and definitely appreciate all the pro features they add to the camera, plus the much bigger screen to monitor and capturing in ProRes.

No. It's like saying free people in a country built on genocide and slavery, who daily benefit from that history, shouldn't call themselves enslaved when they're asked to temporarily change their lifestyles in order to save the lives of their neighbours.

No. Slavery is a situation where a person or a group of people are forced to labour for no recompense. Some people have concluded that they're in that situation right now because they're too spoilt and entitled to countenance a temporary disruption to their lives in order to save the lives of their neighbours.

    Hi all,
My heart goes out to everyone whose livelihood depends on this technology, tough, nay, difficult and challenging times, indeed. Being "just a retired fellow who likes to play with cool toys and try and make something with them" my biggest hit during the pandemic was having to sandbag my night college FCPX class this past spring when in-class learning turned into an attempt at virtual learning...I imagine I took an incomplete on it, haven't had the heart to check. (sigh) I would very much like to retake the course when the campus reopens and I feel that the pandemic is on the wane and I can get tested for the antibodies to determine whether I should get a vaccine or not. My hopes and expectations (here "in the States") is that our new administration will prove more competent and honest in dealing with this pandemic than the previous one and, in those regards, things are looking hopeful.
In the meantime, after a fraught year of worry for my immune-compromised daughter and S.O. (and countless friends and loved ones) I'm just beginning to get my head back into my nature/wildlife shooting and have reinvigorated my day-by-day commitments to "just get out there" and put myself in the way of beauty (as the film says!) and grab some footage and stills. It's proved to be good medicine, too easy (it sadly seems) to have been able to allow depressiveness and worry keep me on the couch. I wish everyone future success with their own personal challenges.
My biggest challenge since getting "back out" is dealing with those (sometimes-indignant) non-mask-wearing folks who've allowed themselves to be fooled into thinking that doing so has been some grand conspiracy to rob them of their civil liberties. Losing one's life and/or becoming gravely ill because of the carelessness of others is an attack on one's civil liberties, sad to discover that this conversation is actually necessary, so, I've taken to politely asking that they do so. Unfortunately, a few local businesses (deli, laundromat, etc.) have been lax in abiding by our State's (NY) Covid requirements and I've had to have conversations with those proprietors as to why they will not see me in their places of business any further...this pandemic has been an education in seeing how others show respect for their neighbors, and in the case of business owners, their patrons and employees and their own families.
All that said, my mental/emotional state has seen a marked upswing since becoming active again, as has my physical health...something to be said for fresh air and sunshine and a sense of purpose and desire! Haw!
Best to one and all, 🙂

One of the ugliest aspects of this pandemic has been the reminder of the sense of entitlement so many people have. It was always there but it's really been hitting us over the head every day since the pandemic began. Selfishness has been deemed "freedom" and any attempt to reel in such selfishness has been labeled "tyranny." It's to the point where people compare, without even the smallest bit of irony, that it's equal to slavery.
Mind you they make these statements on their phones and computers, with minimal restrictions on what they can say (depending on the platform), while living in their nice homes, driving their nice cars, eating in restaurants, and enjoying most of the other wonderful perks that comes with modern technology and society.
You know who don't have any of that? Actual slaves. And they exist today, not as these privileged people complaining, but as human beings forced to live in squalor, void of any rights, and forced to work for nothing. The minor inconveniences you've had to live with this last year is still better than anything those people have ever experienced. So yeah, people's insistence on comparing the efforts to combat COVID-19 to slavery is not only dumb but insulting to those that have experienced genuine slavery or whose ancestors were slaves. All of that should go without saying and yet here we are. Embarrassing.

Every policy has its limits. Restriction for two months is very different with same restriction for two years. People calling it slavery or any other names, is completely natural reaction at this point. I live in a country that people simply gave up! Its not that only you understand the common sense. Humans are more complicated than that.. they're not coded with C++.

I work in a factory running cnc machines and lately a waterjet. I dabble in video for a hobby.  I got laid off, not long after covid hit here in aus and nearly everything got shut down. Spent about six- eight months off work. Ended up withdrawing 20k out of my super, as allowed by the government at the time. Paid the mortgage off and bought a 3 year old Mitsubishi outlander.
Some might say I haven't had it too tough, and I can't say that I blame them for thinking that.
Here in Australia we haven't experienced the death rates in other countries. Whether that's due to the government initiatives or a smaller population more spread out or dumb luck, I couldn't tell. But I am however grateful as I have some rare bug called sarcoidosis which would probably not play well with covid, if I were to catch it. While covid hasn't had the same impact here mortality wise, financially it's probably  near crippled a lot of people, families, government.
Long time ago I remember a saying ask not what your country can do for you, but rather, what can you do for your country.  Personally I think it might the time to focus a bit less on myself and some more on where I can help others, and maybe video something along the way.

This 100%! And the thing about those measures is they work! That's why I'm so exhausted by these debates.
Even when you adjust the numbers to account for its small population, Vermont has the second lowest rates in the country. Why? It's not because it's rural since that didn't spare the Dakotas from having the highest numbers in the country. It's not because it was remote, given it bordered New York and Massachusetts, two states that were ravaged by COVID-19 at one point. It's not because they aren't testing; they're 7th in testing per million.
It's because they require masks, put limits on how many people can be in stores and restaurants at once, restricted gatherings, etc. Common sense stuff that even after 500,000 have died people still argue against or call "slavery."

Medically justified, temporary, standard public health measures aimed at containing a deadly pandemic are not slavery - the view of the world betrayed by such a characterisation is either simplistic or solipsistic.
I'm very sorry for your father's suffering - but really, what is the alternative? Do hospitals allow normal visiting by relatives and friends who may unknowingly be spreading a virus that could kill not only the patient concerned but also many others in the hospital who are highly vulnerable? Or do they devote hours of scarce nursing time helping said visitors to don PPE to a clinical standard?
All of the measures enacted around the world have their basis in the fact that we are faced with a virus that many can spread without even realising they're infected, but which for many others is a death sentence. In other words - they call upon those who in the main can withstand the infection to temporarily undergo some personal detriment - be it economic, social, emotional or to their own mental health in order to protect their fellow citizens who might not be so lucky.
You say it's your right to take the personal risk of getting sick or dying. But what of the health worker treating you who you infect and goes on to die, or to have their life blighted by long Covid? What of the rights of the key worker infected because they have no choice but to continue to work and mix who is denied a hospital bed because you - who was exercising his rights - have taken it up due to entirely avoidable infection? Why do your 'rights' (really just a conviction that you shouldn't be inconvenienced or disappointed along with everybody else) trump theirs?

    Absolutely.

The new Sony FX series is going to be bought by people, and will prove to be popular as there are people out there who want them.

The tv series I was working on today had the vast majority of the cameras being FX9 or FX6! (with a few other Sonys thrown in there, like the Sony F5)

How many FX cameras in total? I didn't even try to count. But just in the sound department (and we're way in the minority compared to the size of the camera crew! Of course, as is always normal) we have five of us.

And that's just on this one shoot.
