It may be, but from your calculations, the crop seems too large, but I am not the right person to ask about such things.

This was quick math, but seems accurate:

    1.89873417721 (4k DCI)

    2.02531645569 (4k UHD)

    2.70042194092 (2.8k Anamorphic)

    2.89330922242 (2.6k 16:9)

    4.05063291139 (HD)

Round the numbers as you please.

I can't speak for Zak, but wide angle lenses have significant stretching on the edges/corners and when combined with IBIS (and potentially other kinds of stabilisation) it gives the edges a strange kind of warping effect, kind of like the jelly effects of rolling-shutter but in a different way.  Depending on the motion involved it can look very very strange, and if you're doing pro work then it can absolutely ruin shots.

I see, the barrel distortion of the lens is the culprit.

Is this mostly due to the sensor reaching the outer limits of the image circle? For instance, would the same lens on a smaller sensor exhibit the same behavior? Or, would a wide lens that was actually designed for the specific use case of a full frame sensor with IBIS help minimize these characteristics?

I haven't noticed the problem while using my SLR Magic 8mm with IBIS on the G85/ GX85. I would think that lens was designed for a slightly larger sensor, as most SLR Magic lenses seem to be.

Thanks for your feedback! The theme for me was the anxiety and dread of becoming a new parent. The blank face was sorta being afraid of something that you can't understand.

I definitely thought about just starting at 4:00 (and I still might make a cut starting there as a straight horror short).

Ah! The Rosemary's Baby reference makes more sense with that explanation.

I'm not offering a criticism and saying the subtext should be made so obvious. I'm just making conversation. I've only watched it once and didn't analyze it too deeply.

I thought it looked great! Can I ask which shots were the BMPCC6K?

The X-Rite checkers are one of those things that are expensive for what they are but cheap for what they enable you to do.

In lens news, does anyone use these Meike cine primes?

There are obviously some discussions about how closely they, erm, "resemble" the now defunct Veydra's products but at under £350 a piece and with the 12,16,25mm set due to be rounded out this month by 35,50 and 85mm they are very interesting.

I own the 16 & 25mm Meike lenses. I really like them for my purpose, which is family videos. They're used on my GX85 & G85. They offer a nice sharp image through the aperture range. Though they may be a bit too clinical for some people's taste. I don't really look for a vintage image because I like digital images and I firmly believe in due time my images will look as vintage as they need to. I also like the weight they add to these smaller cameras.

I was a very early adopter of these lenses, so the 25mm version I have is the unabashed clone of the Veydra lens. The focus ring is a chore to turn by hand. I've read that the Veydras are heavily dampened. The 16mm version, which is the current design, has a far less dampened focus ring. I definitely prefer the 16mm focus ring as I don't use a follow focus, and assume the that a heavily dampened ring would be better suited for such a setup. I've never used a professional cine lens, so I'm truly talking out of my ass here. The focus throw is nice and long at around 300 degrees. As a side note I'm super pissed they changed the design, as my OCD strongly prefers they be a matching set.

I've never tested the markings on the lenses, but I wouldn't trust them for anything important. I would doubt the T stops are accurate from lens to lens. I would also doubt coatings match well lens to lens. I'm sure no one suspects the QC for these lenses is a very stringent process.

As far as I've read, in addition to the 12,16, and 25mm, they plan on releasing an 8, 35, 50, 70, and 85mm. Meike announced on Instagram this weekend the release of the 35mm in mid November. Their delivery dates change often though. I'm looking forward to the 35mm as it's my favorite focal length on MFT.

A bit disappointing though that the price from the 12mm and on will be $399 each in the US. For me that's enough of a jump to start looking at the SLR Magic Microprimes which come in faster flavors than the T2.2 of the Meike lenses.

Overall these lenses are fun for a guy like me to play in the world of cine lens make believe. MFT lenses are getting so fun now with the DZO zooms and the Vazen anamorphic lenses. It almost makes me not want to get a Sigma FP...but not really!

A couple weeks ago I shot some test footage with my buddy, John. He's a great actor that has played lead roles in a few of my films. Anyway, to get the old creative juices going again, I invited him over so I could see how the E2 reacted under my Quasar Science RGBX LED lamps. I used a combination of daylight balanced and cyan. I intended to sell the E2 when my F6 arrives at the end of this month, but I think the E2 plus speedbooster will be an excellent b-cam to my F6 when I need high frame rates that the F6 can't reach.

    Z-Cam E2

    Metabones Speed Booster XL (.64x)

Contax Zeiss 35mm f/1.4 (2x Oval Aperture Mod)

Quasar Science RGBX 4ft LED Tubes

    Very cool! What frame rates?

  6. To correct my above post with the information in @nathlas 's post, if 36mm is considered the standard full frame sensor width, the BMPCC6K is a 1.558 crop using the full sensor width.

I typically give zero fucks about crop factors and such, but this camera has peaked my interest. Though, if the Sigma FP is reasonably priced I might move into full frame.

To actually contribute to this thread, I would love to have this camera with some Xeen glass mounted to it. The 85mm Xeen on the used market is pretty reasonable and would no doubt make a beautiful image.

I only do stuff for Android so I suppose that proves your point!

Haha! No disrespect intended. After all, you are the reason my GX85 gets far more use than my G85 these days.

There is a similarish product for Android called Gmonitor.

I'll look into this app, thanks!

I've mentioned it before but for anyone looking for a more seamless integration for social media then the Toshiba FlashAir SD cards are worth a look as they work independently in the background of the camera you have them in to automatically transfer files to your device without having the full blown camera app open.

The latency/quality equation of monitoring signals over wifi makes the use of the superior display of the phone a bit of a problem. Not to mention the heat and battery drain for sustained periods of that sort of use.

Understood. Though it seems like there exists more than enough incentive to innovate in this space. The only alternative seems to be having your market share swallowed by the "cell phone" manufacturers.

There are some inexpensive wired solutions that use HDMI to USB3 for phones that can handle UVC class devices that can be used though. Think of these as like a roll your own version of the LukiLink.

Although on its not as elegant a solution as being wireless it does have a big advantage with regard to latency and an edge in quality. Its a particularly useful device to have in the bag for owners of cameras that might occasionally need external monitoring but have restrictive wireless apps (ie Fuji where the camera can't record 4K when you are remote monitoring) or obviously for the Pocket4K which has none at all.

Its particularly useful for the Pocket4K in bright sunlight to be able to use your phone as a brighter screen that can be tilted.

So, you're saying if UVC is in the Android spec and my Pixel 3 XL is hardware capable; use as an external monitor is possible? Would there need to be a software solution to interpret the signal or would Android handle this somehow?

Hardly any good apps start as a Android app.

Which makes no sense, as Android is a more widely used operating system.

It uses the same stream as the Panasonic Image App, so latency/quality/behaviour when recording will be the same.

But it does offer a lot more on the monitoring side, particularly with focus

    The full details are here

    https://www.adamwilt.com/fieldmonitor/

Why does everything good video related only get development on iPhone? Drives me fucking nuts.

And why isn't the Panasonic app badass anyway? Wouldn't you imagine most of the functionality that these high end consumer cameras are missing, especially in the realm of social media integration, could be off-loaded onto the incredible devices we all hold in our hands every hour of the day? Why not leverage the lightweight, portable device I already own with an incredible screen and high speed processor?

I too wonder where has andy lee gone? I loved his contributions!

Does anybody know if the film @andy lee made has been released yet?

I scoured the internet at some point late last year for any information about that film. I, unfortunately, found no helpful information about it. It's strange that such a project would seemingly vanish into thin air.

a bit off topic but how is the monitor in general? Anything you specifically like or dislike about it? I'm looking into a affordable monitor for my G80 and the main reason why I want to pick this one up is for LUT monitoring

    @Adam Kuźniar

Do you see any significant lag/ latency with the G80 and this monitor?

  11. @webrunner5, can you elaborate on why one wouldn't always want a "good" copy? Meaning you would want old coatings or something along those lines?

@kye, I appreciate the response! I know a lot of this probably seems obvious to the experienced folks, but I've been trying to learn cameras, shooting, editing, etc. as a hobby for two years now and I still feel like I have no clue what's going on.

  12. As I'm still fairly new to the addiction of camera gear; I'm curious of what everyone does when they get a new lens.

If you're someone who buys cheap Chinese or vintage lenses, like me, the odds a getting a lemon seem high. What's your process after receiving a lens to make sure you have a good copy?

Can I get some feedback on my planned P4K purchase list? This is my first camera, first lens, etc. I've tried to do as much research as I can, now I just need some learned eyes to double check I haven't made any real dumb decisions. Planned use will be no-budget narrative fiction and a bit of casual street filming.

    Lenses: Meike 25mm T2.2 + Meike 16mm T2.2
Filters: Tiffen 77mm Indie Pro Infrared/ND Filter Kit
Monopod: Sirui P-326S with VH-10X head
    Storage: Samsung T5 2TB

I would be planning to buy more of the Meikes as they came out, and I don't have to worry about sound for now. The other alternative would be to go for the Metabones + Sigma route. I already have the camera, a smallrig cage and a couple of batteries. Not sure if I'll need a bigger battery or not.

I own the 25mm Meike and enjoy it very much. It's a good, sharp lens, and I plan on buying the 16mm soon. You'll need a follow focus though. The throw is very long and you won't be able to pull focus very well without one.

I don't know why, but I have a strange fascination with seeing small lenses on large bodies and large lenses on small bodies. Looks cool!
