Yeah 16 doesn't have it, 16.1 b2 (the latest beta) added it.

I did my tests using Fujifilm F-Log as input color space, then Rec.709 Gamma 2.4 as timeline & output color space. I don't use HLG but for that I'd use Rec.2100 HLG as input, in fact that's automatically chosen by RCM if you import a Fuji HLG file. (in Resolve 16.1 beta 2)
About interpretation of F-Log files (didn't test HLG yet):
If you use the Ninja V then you're fine.
If you use internal footage then you're fine in Davinci YRGB and ACES, but not (yet) in RCM.
If you transcode the footage by doing a matrix conversion from BT.601 to BT.709 then you're fine.
If you transcode the footage without a matrix conversion and you preserve the original matrix coefficients flag, then you're fine in Davinci YRGB and ACES, but not (yet) in RCM.
If you transcode the footage without a matrix conversion and you omit (or simply rewrite) the matrix coefficients flag, then the footage will be interpreted incorrectly everywhere.
It all comes down to how shutter encoder works. I can only help with FFMPEG.

Yeah I am not an editor. I used to use HLG on the GH5 though, but that was for personal projects. Plus my B cam the XT30 doesn't do HLG

Wikipedia is all you should need.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circle_of_confusion
Basically, if I make a scene with three points, the first one is perfectly in focus, the second is a one inch behind the focal plane and is a bit blurry and the third is two inches behind the focal plane.   Then I project that image onto two sensors, one is low resolution and the other is high resolution.
On the low resolution sensor the point source hits one pixel (one photo site) and the second one is a bit blurry but the photo sites on this sensor are so large that it still only hits one photo site.  The third point is so out of focus that it hits more than one photo site.  On this sensor the first two points are in focus and the third is out of focus, therefore the DoF is between 2 and 4 inches.
On the high resolution sensor the point source hits one pixel (one photo site) and the second one is a bit blurry and because the photo sites on this sensor are so small that it hits multiple photo sites.  The third point also hits more than one photo site.  On this sensor the first points is in focus and the second and third are out of focus, therefore the DoF is between under 2 inches.
This is because the definition of what is in focus and what is out of focus is related to the resolution of the sensor / film-stock.  This is what Circle of Confusion is referencing.
    Also from wikipedia:
In digital photography, what is acceptably sharp would be based on the resolution (which is why people pixel-peep by zooming into 100%) and the visual acuity of a digital sensor is its resolution.

A slight downside: it seems that the fix they implemented for the bad interpretation for Fujifilm files in v16 (bad YCbCr->RGB conversion) only works in Davinci YRGB and not in RCM.

The electronics manufacturers have always had a strange relationship with 24p.
It's tempting to look at classic cinema as a quaint, anticipated thing of the past. It's an under-fire aesthetic like never before.
YouTubers seem happy with 30p or 60p and TVs do their best to smooth over the cinema look by default.
Well, not any more - according to the Hollywood Reporter, Filmmaker Mode is debuting on upcoming TVs by virtue of the UHD Alliance and some of cinema's best known directors.

thephoenix reacted to kye in Giving the BMPCC4K the same look as the BMPCC and BMMCC
    Step 1:
Someone with a 1080p BM camera (BMPCC / BMMCC / BMCC) and with a 4K or 6K BM camera (P4K / P6K) shoots something on both cameras, ideally making them as comparable as possible, and shares the footage from both.
    Step 2:
Then people attempt to grade the 4K/6K footage to have the "magic" of the older cameras and shares the processed footage here.  I'll be attempting it, but others would be welcome as well.
    Step 3:
People review the processed footage and share impressions and opinions.
The goal is to discover how to do it, or if we can't fully get there what might have helped.  In a way we're trying to dissect the "magic" that the 1080p RAW BM cameras have.

thephoenix reacted to Papiskokuji in Panasonic S1H review / hands-on - a true 6K full frame cinema camera
Specwise it's a bit disappointing. I'm sure the image out of it is spectacular (like most of the cameras nowadays), the tilting screen is a great evolution, the evf and IBIS are topnotch : sure it's a great camera. But when I read Andrew's article, I can't help remembering his rant about those biased youtubers under Canon's influence, because they were flown under the sun of Hawai, etc.
Now I read about Andrew at Panasonic's headquarters, and all I can read is praise about the camera, not even a single remark/critic about anything, eventhough there should be a few, in my humble opinion. I fully understand that when you are invited somewhere, treated well, etc. You don't want to be rude and say bad things about the product you had the chance to shoot with before everybody, even more so when it's a good camera like the S1H seems to be.
But come on, no word on NO Full Frame 4K 60p (what would you have said if it had been Sony), codec and bitrate very good but not revolutionary (especially for the added resolution of 6K), no ND, no PDAF (why not, but suddenly AF is not important, it varies from camera to camera...?). I can't even tell the difference with the S1 (I'll have to check it) but the fact you can have manual controls in HFR. I understand your rants, it's good sometimes, it might even be productive if heard by the brands. What I don't like is that it's so variable and relative. You should make an article about Panasonic crippling the S1 not allowing manual controls in HFR. It's as puzzling as canon not giving 24p...
And finally, the price. It's very very expansive. A very few people will be able to afford it. 4 000$ is in the realm of a real cinema camera with proper ergonomics, ND filters... That's why I think, you could ask for a bit more from this camera. The Fuji X-T3 has almost the same offering, (in aps-c) with crops between framerates a lot more manageable. The codec's bitrates are even better. There's no IBIS, EVF and build quality not as good, but the price difference is huge. Well that's only my take on it

thephoenix reacted to tupp in "light" software to check my footages exposure
I just realized that ffplay (the ffmpeg player) will show histograms, video waveforms and vectorscopes.  Ffplay has to be one of the smaller applications that provides such capability.

These commands worked on my Linux terminal.  Not sure if the syntax changes slightly for the Windows command line.  Note that the word "video" in the commands should be replaced with the name of your video file (for example, my_video.mp4).

I saw both simpler and more complex versions of these commands when I did a web search.  If you try ffplay and have problems, please post your commands, and I will see if I can help.

thephoenix reacted to tupp in "light" software to check my footages exposure
Shotcut is open source, and is fairly lightweight and has histogram and waveform (apparently, no RGB parade and no vectorscope).

Kdenlive is also open source, and seems to offer all the important scopes.  It is probably lightweight, but not as much as Shotcut.

Both of these NLEs have Windows versions.

There are other open source NLEs and post production applications, but I am not sure what scopes are offered nor if there are Windows versions.

thephoenix reacted to BTM_Pix in NEW!! 3B BlackMagic Controller App Launch Thread
So, the list of 487 ongoing projects can now officially be reduced to 486 with the launch of this new app for Android.
Whilst the 3C app offers Comprehensive Camera Control of all of the parameters of the BlackMagic cameras, there are some users who just need a Bloody Big Button to control the record start/stop so welcome to 3B.

Intended for handheld or mounted via a phone adapter on a rig/gimbal/tripod handle, 3B is a simple way to activate and monitor the Record Start/Stop on your Blackmagic camera but also provides a live status view of the following parameters from the camera.
Aperture ISO Shutter Angle Temperature Tint White Balance Preset 3B is a single screen, no menu app and features an oversized record button to enable easy activation and the screen provides high visibility confirmation when the camera is in record.

As 3B provides a much reduced feature set compared to 3C, it also comes with a much reduced price and is available for €1.99.
So if you don't need all of the bells and whistles of 3C and just need a simple start/stop controller and monitor for your Blackmagic camera that has a record status indication that is visible from the moon, 3B is now available on the Play store on the following link.
