This noise is normal for USM and there is no solution. For silent focusing you must have STM or NanoUSM.

Yes, the future of camera is not really about pure image quality. Now it is about new technologies like AF, automatic variable ND filter, low light performance etc. With these technologies we will be able to work with minimal rigs and the camera system will be much smaller and lighter. Shooting movies will be faster, easier and cheaper.

I remember thinking to myself a short while ago, “The current camera so damn good, Do we really need anything better? “
It seems many in Hollywood are taking note. I recently read a article which can be found here in which they state that the new movie “The Haunting of Hannah Grace” was shot entirely on the Sony A7S2.
Granted, they rigged it up pretty good. But at the heart of that rigging was a Sony A7S2.
So the day has come... hell has indeed frozen over. A humble prosumer camera can be used to shoot a Hollywood feature. Now if anamorphic lenses would follow suit, we would really be in business.

I understand your point your point about manual focusing, my guess is that those lens are not necessarily meant for manual focus for movie use. I know it is a sacrilege for some but with those new autofocus, manual focusing might really become a niche thing like in photography.

This is a low light test of the Nikon Z6:
It seems usable till 25600 ISO but for me 10000 or 12000 ISO is the max without post denoising, just like on Sony A7III.

It seems that AF is much better on the GH5/S with the last firmware update. Good news for the future S1/R with contrast AF AND deep learning AI!

Hello Kye, for me the entire world is a film set ? I am agree, new techs must serve creativity not replace it. By the way, A.I. will never replace human mind, we only talk about techs which can make our lives easyer on set.

The real question is "Can we use techs like autofocus or IBIS on a film set ?"
I live in France and I can tell you that many people are very conservative about that. They say that you can't use AF because movies are only made with cameras which have PL mount with manual PL glasses so for them it is literally impossible to use AF. Even worse, many people think it is forbidden!
There are many exemples of great movies made with DSLRs and photo glasses. If AF works why don't use it on appropriate situations? If IBIS is relevant on some case why don't use it? When I said to some peole it was a pity that P4K lacks AF and IBIS they replied "it is a cinema camera so it is normal if there is no AF and IBIS"... wow... It is time to break the old rules!

I wonder if anyone will be brave enough to make a Speed Booster specifically for that 1.8x crop 4K? @Brian Caldwell
The usual 0.71x adapters will I am sure come onto the market first, but then in 4K that will still be a 1.3x crop and not full frame.
0.60x Speed Booster would do the trick.
Then finally we have full frame 4K H.264 from Canon with Canon LOG, after so long.
Also with the flange being 20mm, that is more than E-mount, so more space for the Speed Booster optics to extend back into the mount close to the sensor.

Are they essential? No of course but IBIS and AF are like autoexposure functionality - as long as you can switch them off when you want full control then why wouldn't you have it if you could and have the best of both worlds?
A lot of people, myself included, just want the option of a helping hand when they need it and its far, far easier to use an ON/OFF switch than try and build that additional functionality on yourself with gimbals and focus systems.
Obviously, the only way to fully illustrate this is through the medium of hedgehogs.
This is what it looks like to most people when they switch on a camera that has those features and want to grab some shots

And this is what greets then when they switch on a cinema camera

    I am only joking.
I quite agree with you actually. IBIS is a bit lazy, and it doesn't give as cinematic results as proper rigging or a tripod. But it's a lot more fun for run & gun narrative, a lot quicker, stealthier and a lot easier.
As for AF, it depends on how well it works. Dual Pixel AF can be very cinematic. Anything that darts around or hunts is out. It depends on the shot as well, as whether or not you track focus on something depends on the story and mood of the scene.

I doubt that the case, it s better to sell a product once at a higher price than having your clients buying something cheaper, plus it create a lot of product on the second hand market that hurt your sales.
On top of that I hardly see the regular mirrorless buyer spend 5 to 10k on a system for occasional work , that FS5/FS7 territory.
If anything they will be introducing a new segment of product, with a "brain" and extensions.

Well C100-200-300-700 users will tell you otherwise, I get paid for shooting MV and fashion stuff mostly and autofocus is very valuable in those situation.
