  1. Its definitely a great camera, though you may not need it. The XT30 has the same H264 image quality and auto focus at a cheaper price. I may have went with the XT30 if it had been released last year when I got the XT3, but I am not sure. I rarely do extensive grading so 8 bit is fine for me 90% of the time realistically. Nothing matches it in terms of overall features. Fuji pretty much has it beat, but no IBIS and of course no 422 if that is your need.
  2. You can record 10 bit 422 out on the XT30, so it has future upgrade potential. Log doesn't grade as well in 8 bit. Fuji log isn't too bad though better then 8 bit sony S-log or Panasonic 8 bit V-log. However you also can record in Eterna, which isn't log but has pretty high dynamic range. Getting a cheap speedbooster plus some cheap vintage lenses gives you some pretty cool results on the Fuji too. The GH5 with vlog and HLG definitely has a different flavor, the lessened crop and IBIS make it a really unique camera. I do agree the tech is getting older. I wish the GH5S had IBIS, it really would be hard to beat.
  3. Right now I have an XT3, XT2, and BM pocket camera. I do weddings so I need three cameras and its nice to have back ups for paid work. I went with Fuji as I like their color, means less work in post, sometimes no color work in post. Canon is great for color too but Fuji products offer a lot more for a lot less. Low light performance is a big plus as well as auto focus. The XT3 with a used kit lens 18-55, is the best bang for your buck right now I think. The 18-55 has OIS so you can do some handheld work too. If you don't need 10bit the Fuji XT30 with kit lens would be a good deal. You'd save $400. I almost went with an XH1 as a second camera, but I really don't need IBIS. Especially because the Fuji IBIS is not as good as panasonic. Good as a tripod replacement but I don't mind just using a tripod. I may have gone with a Z6 but the color science isn't as pleasing and I couldn't afford buying two of them. I am very happy with the XT3.
  4. Yeah I usually get lenses separate as they often charge more for the kit lens than I can get it used, if I get the kit lens at all. But I am in the US so may not be the same where you live. Gotta weigh your options man. Its hard to know what is beneficial without using it. I had the GH5 for a while only to find IBIS wasn't that important to me.
  5. Whats your experience with the EVA1?
  6. Yeah it would really limit your possible lens selection. I guess you could still use your GH3 for some shots.
  7. Whats your budget including lenses? I'd still say the Z6 is the best option out there all around. Keep in mind longer lenses like he 45-175 on M43 are like 90-350. On full frame you don't get that long range. So M43 has that benefit. Lenses are also smaller. Imagine the size of a 90-350 on full frame. Consider that as well. Do you mind hauling around a bigger system for doc work? The GH5 is hard to beat for run and gun, great IBIS and great lens options. Not great in low light, though with fast lenses it can be. The 25mm .95 is a great option, though for wider stuff you have to pay a lot.
  8. I liked the video. Definitely a very practical camera to own.
  9. I don't watch many tv shows but I had heard of Empire. I hadn't heard of the latest scandal until a friend pointed it out to me though. Crazy stuff, I think the bigger deal is a lot of big names were backing his story.
  10. It looks like the Nikon may have been overexposed, looking at the house behind him.
  11. Flaring is another thing you might want to test. That is if you care about it. I think your tests will yield great accurate results for the most part. Though do you care about the nitty gritty details that much? Would taking the lens out and shooting with it better show you if you like its characteristics.
  12. I think its still probably the best IBIS, other than Olympus. Dual IS really is crazy good. Auto focuses has its uses, shooting fast subjects or cars or tracking shots with a super shallow DOF. In general though I agree its a bit overrated. I remember shooting a typical gimbal tracking shot with my XT20, had to redo it so many times due to inaccurate AF. May have been smarter if I just switched to manual, stopped down a bit and kept the same distance from the actor to stay in focus. That said the XT3 would have handled it really easily.
  13. Way better than the GH5 and its not released yet. Could become something usable.
  14. Very cool lens! Love the color in those first two shots.
  15. Its definitely a jump but if you don't need photos its a great option. Built in ND's would be really nice for doc work. Would be hard to beat the Z6 in terms of usability. Lots of Nikon glass to choose from, IBIS, crazy low light performance, good dynamic range, decent color, future upgrade potential. I think the questions come down to lowlight performance and IBIS needs. The XH1 is not a bad option either. Also really cheap if you buy used. The extra money can go to getting glass.
  16. How often would you use IBIS over a tripod or gimbal?
  17. If you already got a bunch of M43 lenses the GH5 is an easy option. Continuous auto focus isn't very reliable but tap to focus works good if you have decent lighting to work with. Won't work for quick moving situations though. Why do you need IBIS? A canon C200 might be a good option. You'd have the benefit of a compact video camera with internal ND's and no record limits. Also good color, auto focus, and the benefit of Canon OIS Lenses (good substitute for IBIS). The Nikon Z6 is also a decent option, no 10 bit internal but the image it produces is pretty nice regardless. Also has great IBIS, auto focus and the ability to do 10 and 12 it external.
  18. I like the idea, the smaller the better when it comes to this type of stuff.
  19. Lovely frame grabs. I am going to play around with those effects.
  20. Yeah the XT3 is hard to beat. Unless you really need the IBIS of the GH5. The stills dynamic range on the XT3 is so good I find that I don't think full frame would offer much of an advantage, other than low light performance and FOV.
  21. Yeah TBH I don't care about 4k at all, much rather have dynamic range or 10 bit. As long as its a good 1080p codec I really can't tell the difference. The XT3 is definitely nice. Dynamic range is better than the GH5 in my experience in video. Dynamic range as well as low light performance in photos really blows the GH5 away. If you are looking for a hybrid camera its hard to beat.
