  1. Good idea! The Alexa plus is going for $10,000 on ebay, a steal
  2. Bummer, I'll have to get something with a DC output. Thanks for the help again man Yeah man it'll compliment my XT3 nicely. I got the metabones SB now so its close to S35.
  3. Yeah would be nice if they did. I'd recommend sending it in.
  4. Gotta watch that soon. I am really thinking about doing something B&W, would be really freeing. I am color blind so B&W sounds very appealing.
  5. Are you sure? Its a different system but for example Sony's S-log NR is different than the regular profiles, less ghosting, which might imply less NR.
  6. F-log uses less NR than eterna. Could be good or bad depending on your taste. Usually I'd rather have the ability to NR in post to reduce issues that usually come with in camera NR
  7. I just got a Miller 20 fluid head, apparently they are rated for 22 pounds! My reasoning was if it can handle a 20 pounds setup it can handle my 2-3 pound setup, looks like I may need to add a bit of weight lol.
  8. Making me miss jonpais I wouldn't mind seeing a comparison video.
  9. Having a long lens is kind of cool for travel. Not really something to take family pics with, but nice for getting shots in public without people being weirded out, if only for the fact that you don't have to be that close to snap a pic of someone lol. Do you use a speedbooster or just regular adapter? My current set now is: 17mm 3.5, 28mm f2, 50mm 1.8, and 85mm 1.8 (which is full frame with a speedbooster) Its kind of weird but I am used to an APSC crop, so to me these lenses are like an 9mm, 15mm, 28mm, and 45mm. Then of course I can remove the speedbooster and get the apsc crop field of view. I am getting an extra stop of light as well using the speedbooster getting me 2.8, 1.4, and 1.2 equivalents. Not the easiest to focus wide open haha, but cool to have. I have the Minolta 24, 35, 50, and 135, unsure if I'll keep or sell them. I'll tell you whats on my radar for vacation and fun stuff though a Zeiss 35-70mm 3.4. Minolta and Nikon also make a similar lens to that. For vaca stuff it would be nice to have just a do everything lens rather than trying to carry around 2-3 lenses.
  10. The Canon is for winners would make a could marketing campaign, you should pitch it to Canon DBounce! I think the argument for the prosumer hybrid canon cameras is its a path to upgrade. These type of bodies are cheap and lose their value quick, but the lenses can go onto a better body later. Some of the older Canon bodies are also worthwhile for those who want RAW video, like the 5D3, but that has nothing to do with the EOS RP.
  11. Have you found the reduced sharpening noticeable? Is the H265 200mbps All-i? The only thing I dislike is the framing is off if you don't shoot anamorphic, though it gives you the cropping advantage
  12. Yeah it still doesn't work even with the 5v to 9v cable. The BM apparently needs at least 7v and 2amps I read a USB port can only supply 5v so maybe that is the issue.
  13. Yeah the still of seagulls is wonderful! Got a few shots with my Fuji 23mm f2 and Minolta 135mm 2.8 The 2.8 is on the soft side wide open, looks pretty nice at f4 tho. Its not a bad lens but I am not really a fan of the 135mm focal length at least no on crop cameras. Gives a nice reach for wedding tho, probably wouldn't have it otherwise. 4th pic is the 128. The 23mm F2 reminds me how nice it is to have AF sometimes. Used the standard fuji color profile and auto WB
  14. My technique as well?? The font looks a bit like Chalk more than handwriting mercer. Really a good shot tho, great composition I think Lovely shots, straight out of camera?
  15. Definitely hard to argue its not the best time to be alive other than sentimental reasons. Mobile Phones certainly are invasive and I am pretty sure have been shown to cause stress in many cases. Great tools of course. I grew up with video games, but I don't play them anymore though, I don't need more challenges in my life. I like watching people get blown up in movies but I don't really want to experience it lol. VR will be cool once the tech gets better eventually. I don't see it replacing movies because its simply a different thing. At least that's how I see it. Newspapers are gone but people still read the news, just online.
  16. I see it working for gaming and other things of that nature but not really cinema. I go to the cinema usually to relax and watch things play out. VR is invasive.
  17. or at least documentary shooters that the Oscars tend to pick use Canon
  18. True though I don't think people will tire of seeing expensively produced movies. People like youtube but they also like watching movies. Theaters may die out do to being inconvenient and expensive, but things like Netflix which is just movies from home, will always be around. I agree I like the music I grew up with. I grew up on older movies including a lot of black and white. I love modern film too though. I don't love the look of cheap content as it looks cheap. Sharpening is a substitution for real image detail. I assume cheap cameras and phones will ditch that look once they are able to actually shoot at high resolution. I guess VR stuff could take over, seems pretty gimmicky though.
  19. http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?363621-All-Five-Oscar-Nominated-Films-Were-Shot-Primarily-on-Canon-cameras/page4 Interesting discussion on the subject
  20. Last wedding I worked on was Sony and the one before that Nikon and the one before that Nikon. Though I feel weddings can be sort of the low end of professional work lol. (not to offend anyone I do them myself).
  21. I think there are industry standards. People shoot on a camera mainly because its the camera to shoot on. People have no clue if something is shot on Film vs an Alexa. They would have no clue if something was shot on an Alexa vs a Sony or a Canon or whatever it is you shoot on. I wouldn't either. Professional films almost always have great lighting, which is most of the battle and of course talented colorists. I remember one of the DOP's or maybe it was the director for one of the latest James Bond movies was commenting on how they went digital and it was much more convenient etc.. Later for the next movie they switched back to film and he commented on how he thought the digital skintones were just off(this is an Alexa we are talking about). I am sure the guy knows what he is talking about but I would have no clue which of those films were shot on digital or film. All the James Bond films looked amazing to me.
  22. Eh I don't think the Academy cares that much what something is shot on. Canon definitely makes sense for Doc work though.
  23. Lot of photos to take in haha. That Voigtlander was very nice though, great contrast.
  24. Yeah the Panasonic has a few features making it really nice for pro work. The XT3 can certainly be rigged up for pro work as well and it definitely is a bit ahead in terms of image quality.
  25. I think YouTube and cinema are a very different thing though. I still say there is really not a difference between modern film and digital, at least not a noticeable one after processing.
