So it seems a lot of YouTubers are in Japan right now at a Panasonic event.
    https://www.43rumors.com/lots-of-creators-are-all-in-tokyo-for-a-big-panasonic-event-new-lidar-autofocus-related-announcement/
43Rumors speculates it's related to a partnership between Panasonic and DJI, re: Lidar AF.
It would seem to be a significant announcement though, given I think this is the first time they've flown people to Japan for an event in years (certainly pre-pandemic.) They didn't do that for the GH6 did they?

It looks like a pretty decent camera, and the screen is awesome, but it doesn't seem to be a vast improvement over what Sony offers. Doesn't stop the usual suspects from gushing over it, though.
Watching the Gerald Undone video, and it's really a bummer to see how much of a Sony shill he has become. He will bring up negatives, but then downplays them or just outright dismisses them as not important. Meanwhile, he'll temper his compliments of other cameras. The titles of his reviews from the last year or so really sum it up, honestly.

Sony Alpha 1: A VERY IMPRESSIVE Camera! (Sony a1 Review)
Sony FX30 Review: Good Camera. Great Value!

I don't even think he does it on purpose (or maybe he does?) But it feels like we're far ways from what made him appealing to me in the first place, which was a measured analysis of a camera's capabilities.

If I had to make a choice right now about what system to go all in on it'd be Sony. But I wouldn't be happy about it. Like @MrSMWit's not that I hate Sony, it's just I'm not inspired by them. I don't ENJOY using their cameras and I've never been a big fan of the images they produce. It's not that they're bad, it's just... They're Sony.
The FX30 is nothing special, but the price? It's hard to beat. It'd be very easy to buy 2 or 3 of them for my work and be done with it. And the system's long term health is guaranteed.
I'm thankful though that I'm not in a position where I need to make that choice, and can further see what everyone else does in the next year or two before deciding what direction I go in. I'm probably putting too much faith in Panasonic, but I do think they'll announce something big next year. I think they have to, their long term viability I think depends on it.

Amongst the plethora of "Is xyz camera still worth it in 2022?" with shocked thumbnail videos on YouTube, there are a fair few with the C100 and C300 in them.
This is an interesting example of one comparing it against the known modernish entity of the P4K.

I guess I can see why some people might feel like the C100 is too big, if they've primarily shot with mirrorless cameras, but it is, in my opinion, the perfect size and was very comfortable to hold. I would trade the mirrorless camera ergonomics for that kind of body any day.

The c100 is one of my favorite cameras I've ever uses when it came to size and form factor, I just could never justify the price even on the used market. It was just so comfortable in the hands, at least for me.
It'd be hard to "go back" to a c100 given all the new features that have come out since, but I think it absolutely would still hold up IQ wise for a lot of work. You probably wouldn't even need to use software like Topaz to upscale it to 4K.
Less DSLR style bodies and more C100 style bodies plz.

It's not that I think Twitter was perfect before, or that there isn't room to innovate, it's that I think Elon Musk is an idiot that is obsessed with the platform and shitposting.
When you are among the wealthiest people in the world you can afford to hire geniuses to build companies like Tesla and SpaceX. Elon is not an engineer, he's not deep in the bowels of those companies leading the charge in innovation and development. He's just a guy that comes from a rich family that used his money to facilitate it. He was smart enough to understand his limitations when it came to these things, but when it comes to Twitter the same can't be said.
It seems clear that he is deeply hands-on with everything going on with Twitter right now, which has resulted in internal chaos, plummeting ad revenue, and embarrassing public outbursts. Being an erratic asshole that antagonizes a large part of the user base and its advertisers isn't an intelligent thing to do, particularly when you've spent 44 BILLION DOLLARS on a company that wasn't profitable. He can pretend it is advertisers wanting to silence "free speech" (no Elon, you're just an asshole and brands don't want to be associated with a site that seems poised to let a bunch of racists and fascists back on it) and whatever other excuse he wants to make, but ultimately the dude just isn't nearly as smart as he (and millions of others) think he is.
When you are that obscenely wealthy it is pretty easy to accumulate more wealth by leveraging your assets regardless of your business acumen or intelligence. Elon is just the latest example of that. It's time for society to stop putting these people on a pedestal and thinking they're smart.

It's very popular with wedding videographers in part because it can record a safety track you can use in the event the person mic'd up gets too loud.
If that's your budget ($180) then that's a very good option. You'll get "good enough" audio straight out of it, and even better if you do a little post processing.
If you do have the budget the Tentacle Track E is a great option, due to the timecode feature and the option to record in 32-bit float, which can be a life saver in the event someone gets too loud.

The thing I keep going back to, even after people talk about the benefits of being able to downscale it to get even better 4K, is that we really aren't even using 4K to its true potential and probably never will before it gets replaced by 8K. Even downscaling to get "better" 4K feels silly, because the difference is so negligible unless you're watching on a big enough screen. It feels weird to argue against higher resolutions, and I don't necessarily view it like that in my head, but this rush to 8K and beyond feels more like a way to charge us more for cameras than a genuine need or necessity. Give me a 4K camera that can film 120fps without any risk of overheating and with all the features we are genuinely asking for before trying to entice us with 8K that 98% of us don't need.

This is without a doubt my #1 annoyance these days across the Canon line. The R5, R6, R6II, and R7 all remove the histogram and electronic level when recording, I think literally no other camera maker does that at least none I have shot with.
They also finally added aspect ratio guides and one of them is that magical social media 4:5 guide....the R5, R7, and C70 don't even have this.  The S5 had this in 2020.
I do find it strange they added false color but not the WFM, I use the WFM way more than I use false color in the C70. To me false color is best when you have control over the lighting, the WFM is better when you have no control and just need the scene to fit within the DR of the sensor so I would much prefer the WFM over false color. It is still promising though that they are starting to add more video tools to their hybrids. We might even get shutter angle in the R6IV.
Also, is it just me or does it feel like a lot of these features could have been added via FW to the R5, R6, and R7? (False Color, Aspect Ratio Guides, overheating removed). I also think its odd they forced external raw via that terrible micro HDMI slot instead of bringing the C70's Canon Cinema Raw Light @ 30FPS to the R6....maybe overheating concerns, or maybe that's the cripple hammer.
None of this is meant to take away from the R6II, I keep asking myself if I would have gotten the R6II instead of the R7 for a bcam/gimbal cam for the C70 and I don't know yet.  The R6II is a pretty decent upgrade across the board, but I do truly enjoy the R7.  Of course the R7's crop sensor and line skipped 4K60FPS is a pain to deal with and is the two things I think really puts the R6II ahead of the R7.
One thing I noticed in the R6II's review video from DPReview is that terrible IBIS wobble, the R7 does not have that at all (probably because it is a smaller sensor), and I would still trust the R7 in the overheating department vs the R6II at least until there's a lot more data available.

I think there's a need for 8 and 12k, just not in these tiny mirrorless cameras and not for 98% of us.
4K, in many ways, was overblown. There is a difference but not a significant difference between 1080p and 4K when watching on the most common TV size people own (55 inch), especially when it comes to streaming. The exception for me is when watching 4K Blu-ray discs.
8K will be much the same. There will be benefits, but will 8K really look significantly better on a 55 inch television than 4K? Probably not.
I have a client that was obsessed with everything being filmed, edited, and delivered in 4K. I'll upload his stuff for him and he used to marvel at how amazing the 4K was on his 4K TV. I just kinda brushed it off until one day he needed me to help him download an original file to his laptop to put on a thumbdrive for a presentation. Seeing how slow his connection was, I realized there was no way he was watching anything streaming in "4K". I had him play a video on his TV and then showed him that it was playing in 1080p. He had no idea. I told him even if it were playing in 4K he'd notice very little difference given the compression used. He stopped marveling after that, and I kinda felt bad about it for a bit.
I still film and edit everything in 4K because there's really no reason not to. But I can't really think of any reason why I'd need 8K. I really don't need that much extra resolution to reframe (or really any extra at all... You can get away with it enough in a lot of instances in 4K) or anything. I don't think there's a ton of people really that need it who aren't in the film industry doing fx work or something. I'd much prefer camera companies push 4K to its limits while maintaining reliable functionality over this race for higher resolutions.
