So, you guys think that Canon's R5 & R6 announcement has nothing to do with this?
I mean, is it possible that sony was caught off guard and the plans for the a7sIII no longer make sense so they have to go back to the drawing board...
These new Canon cameras will surly impact Sony's mirrorless market share.

Just humor but I really want to know what's the catch. 

Canon making their own sensors is a big advantage on the others who tip-toe around with half a foot in the door of the design process and 100% of the manufacturing contracted out to Sony who have a virtual monopoly. Fuji, Nikon and Panasonic all have their own designs, Panasonic even has the organic sensor tech with TowerJazz and there are other manufacturers like Samsung capable of matching or exceeding Sony's capabilities, but I think it's an insane risk to have CMOS sensors from one supplier (Sony) in nearly ALL the current mirrorless models! Canon took a while to bring their new manufacturing plants in Taiwan online but now it appears to have paid off.
Sony will have to go lower on price with the A7S III or do something surprising like the FS5 e-ND.

I have shot lots of field documentary material and I basically agree. We use Ursas, rigged Sony Alpha, DVX200, rigged BMP4CC4k, etc. 
I am disappointed the video-centric S1H does not allow punch-in to check focus while recording. The BMPCC4K and even my old A7R2 did that. An external EVF or monitor/recorder can provide that on the S1H, but if the goal is retaining a highly functional minimal configuration, lack of focus punch-in while recording is unfortunate. Panasonic's Matt Frazer said this was a limitation of their current imaging pipeline and would likely not be fixable via firmware.
The Blackmagic battery grip allows the BMPC6K to run for 2 hrs. If Blackmagic produced a BMPCC6K "Pro" version which had IBIS, a brighter tilting screen, waveform, and maybe 4k 12-bit ProRes or 6k ProRes priced at $4k, that would be compelling.

A friend of mine asked me to document a graffiti jam that he organised.
Managed to get some nice shots, but getting a correct exposure during a sunny day was a huge PITA.
Need to work on it.

@Andrew ReidDear Andrew, from the article it seems that you are in a good contact with Panasonic reps.
Could you please ask them to include a focus assist (magnification) during recording or at least ask why this so important feature is not included in the gh5(s) and also not in the S1? Sony with their A7x line has it included and you find this feature in all broadcast cameras (Sony fs5,fs7, Canon C100-500)
It is such an important feature for so many people who are shooting documentary, reports, television and so on. If you can't plan a scene focus wise you really need this feature to be sure you are in focus.
You can't really judge focus even in Full HD but especially not in 4k. Also the great viewfinder of the S1 will not help. Its not about the resolution of a EVF or LCD, its about the inability of the human eye to really be sure you are focused.
We really need a focus magnification during recording (even 2x would be great and enough, if more is not possible).
It would be so nice if you could come up with this issue if it happens that you talk with them again. If I write them an email it will not get to the right people. I think it is so easy to implement via firmware upgrade and processing power can't be an issue anymore (at least in the s1) to include it also during recording.
Thank you so much if you could do that. I love the GH5 and will love the S1. But this is such an important feature it nearly lets me switch back to cameras like the FS5/7, C300...

You know what's really sad... It's not the Canon brand itself it's the little people in this forum (some of other forums) and especially Canon rumors....
People kept saying Canon is doomed...
To most respect, they aren't... although, it's blatantly obvious that they may be... But they are not... Cause they are just positioning themselves to just plain move out of the segment altogether. 
Which, would make their gear relatively like the NX1... Samsung isn’t doomed, but those that believed in them... are left stranded. If you are reading this... and you are reading this now... start jumping ship!!!

The DP's choice to shoot it this dark would always have issues duo to HBO compression. The codec can't handle well grays so lots of detail got lost

Max repeatedly stated that this was the first of several tests. I'd rather see his findings as he shoots them, then wait a month for a 40 minute video with all the results in every category.
