I would have preferred an XC15 design with the tilt screen.  I don't understand why they did not just make it look like a video camera.  As it is it looks rather awkward. A rotating grip would have been great to have. A bigger battery would have gone a long way to negate the need for rigging.

    BATTERY JAM
I read this yesterday and have not had any issues with the battery jamming for the two weeks I've had the camera.
But last night, on the first real shoot that I've really used it on, the battery jams! And I couldn't get it out (battery also randomly died when it said 85%!) and missed some of the action. Luckily, I still had the GH5 and quickly swapped over my lenses and microphone and kept shooting. But man, not cool. Not when I was thinking of making this my A-Cam for all one-man-band documentary or lower budget commercial work.
Battery is still stuck in the compartment.
Andrew - seen any videos or reports of how to get the battery out once it is jammed in there? Definitely getting external power (the Tilta cages + power look fantastic), but still need the LP-E6 batteries to work. Obviously.

exactly , these firts shots are just DNGs without metadata. Once you blow out the lights in the camera, there's no way back. (Zebra 100%)
provided DNG BMPCC was underexposed! And ,yes BMPCC has more noise in the shadows, but with the right exposure it is far better.
P.S. .....do not take it wrong, someone has to keep up with the great enthusiasm of BMP4K ?

According to their more strict tests (1/SNR=0.5, number in bold on the right) the OG pocket has 11.2 and P4K has 11.6. The pocket 4K has about half a stop more of dynamic range.

So the Pocket 4K fares 11.6 stops @iso400 by Cinema 5D's strict methodology, almost half a stop more than the old Pocket. That's pretty awesome.

Take it for what it's worth, but I find the performance of the two cameras nearly identical in the highlights, after grading -- meaning the same amount of data is preserved in both cases.   At least, this is the case with limited testing.
The shots above are not actually "blown out", so there's nothing to recover.  It's just that the highlights are mapped into the super-white regions in the debayered .dng.  But the data is intact, it just has to be brought down.  You'll see the same thing on the original Pocket.

I think they match like amazingly well just using different types of curves. Pushed ISO on both by one stop to open shadows.
    Took me 5 minutes.
The Pocket 4K has better DR shadows and way more detail
The Pocket HD has better DR in highlights and a slight green tint, but everything is in focus.

That's not what I have seen from my tests.
Pictures shot with same lens, at same aperture, at native iso (800 for the BMPCC, 400 for the BP4K) :

I looked at their measurements and yes, that corresponds to my findings ,when I shoot with GH5 and OT BMPCC  , as I have written recently here I see min +2 stops DR on BMPCC

Thank you, the sample DNG already contains high cliping, left down in those lights, any manipulation with ISO will no longer help with this overexposure.
The dynamic range is definitely worse than the old pocket and, unfortunately, the colors, I have been doing a lot of adjusting DNG and ProRes from my old pocket for a long time so I know what it can do. that color noise in the shadows is unpleasant.
The colors are much worse than the old pocket! it helped me in that I definitely will not sell the old pocket ?  Thank you.

Here is a 3:1 compressed cDNG file straight from the pocket 4k. I believe that you can only open it in Resolve.

Unless a YouTuber or any kind of reviewer is an absolute expert at grading they shouldn't bother.
Otherwise we get to review their grading and not the performance of the camera.
99% of the videos out there so far on the Pocket 4K have taught me absolutely nothing about how good the image is vs the LOG shooting cameras like the GH5. What I want to see is the absolute data in the files, how much you can pull it around, the noise, the dynamic range and then with an expert grade on both to bring them as close together as possible, what inherent advantages in colour science do we see from the Blackmagic codec vs the others.
Of course if Blackmagic had been paying attention to EOSHD for the past 4 years, they'd have realised that I would have done all that out of my own enthusiasm and free time for this camera, and their customers would probably be very happy to see how it does performance wise, but instead we have a load of hacks and PR stunts with the camera. It's sad to see.
My friendly advice to Blackmagic, with beer in hand, healthy respect and no personal grudge is simply this...
    - Quit the long lead-time situation from NAB to shipping. It's infuriating to be teased. Do the marketing from the moment you have the camera finished and manufactured in large quantities and not a moment earlier.
    - Quit sending 10's to 100's of demo units out as seeds on social media. Let your early adopting customers be the first to put the tests up. We can trust these. We don't trust the shills. If you need great looking films and material to show off the camera, you can do a lot better than looking at YouTube and Instagram subscriber numbers. There are actual top-flight Hollywood cinematographers who are interested in small cameras and a host of big names who take a natural curiosity in new gear, without being marketing shills and without the need to be paid-up or foisted a camera upon. Let their natural enthusiasm get the better of them and at least one of them will shoot.
    - Put an articulated screen and an EVF on the next model. There are $400 cameras with these.
    - Keep up the good work on Resolve and the codec side - it is superb.

Today I was shooting in the vineyard with GH5 and I took the old pocket, and I have to admit bmpcc surprised me again with better color and at least +2 feet of dynamic range extra. I noticed that I use a lot more pictures in my pocket camera. Only add saturation and contrast and it's there. In new pocket I see less DRs and a worse transition of highlights to clipping and of course  colors are different and worse for me... the old pocket remains a loyal partner of my GH5 for beautiful B-roll or more cinematic work. Of course, working with old pocket needs more time and patience ?

So much for SAR's A7SIII and A7000 gonna be released anytime sooon before the photokina stuff, now pretty much everything will be released from next year.  There wont be major Sony announcement for the reminder of this year for sure.

The image from the BMPCC4K is superior to GH5, but not this much. It's awesome if you just put a REC709 LUT to BMD Film how good the results are. But it does not require advanced grading skills to make the GH5 image look good.
This is my problem with Wofcrow's Alexa comparison too. We can see REC709 LUT's side by side. But what happens if you want to match the GH5 and BM's image to Alexa? Is it possible? (Yes...) how hard is it? . Can the cheap cameras keep up? (in some cases, yes).

As metadata determines display and native ISO determines exposure you can have usable exposure (not clipping) and unsalable display (clipping). You can’t trust your display when shooting RAW but you can trust Zebras with RAW to show you if you are clipping regardless of what the ISO is set to on the Pocket 4k. I assume you can trust display if you set it to a native ISO (400 or 3200).

38 Seconds of footage from the Pocket 4K. Just initial test. Will have a lot more soon! I will make this private in a bit but it's for those that wanted a bit of footage from Day 1. I'm not fan of the shakiness since we didn't have the appropriate gear, nor did we have the Wireless FF.

DNG 3:1. 24fps and 60/24fps, there’s some light DNR on some of the clips.
Sigma 18-35mm Nikon with a Hoya ProND 8 (I put this on and forgot I had it on for the whole duration). Viltrox Nikon to m43 version. Ronin-S.
4th Axis Stabilizer (Didn’t know how to set the tension at this point, next clips will be better!). Light warp on the beach clips.
