So much controversy around a MILC that never promised earth-shattering video AF performance.
We've become lazy. Either move your wrist around the barrel of the lens and make the enormous effort of +focusing+
like pros have done for DECADES or buy a good videocamera and see your AF problems melt away thanks to its inherent design nature.
This coming from an owner of a 7Dm2 which has, arguably, one of the better video AF systems in the industry (DPAF).
Even them, I rarely trust the camera to do the focusing for me. I can't afford even a single AF hunting second.
So I go full manual. You know, like a paid professional!

True, but they don't have to watch *everything*, they just have to stop automatically allowing ads once you pass basic viewer number thresholds. Make it a privilege.
Honestly, part of me is happy about this. Youtube was becoming this junky clickbait, desperate for views cesspole. I feel bad for those working hard to provide genuinely valuable content, but fuck those clowns who are just churning out boring "ohhhh so edgy" nonsense for money.

Andrew is in the throes of New Camera Mania (™) and it won't wear off for the GH5 until a new "pretty good" prosumer camera is released that has a lot of shortcomings but produces a decent image.

If you have access to a GH4, I would love to see several shots of a subject matter in front of a window, in order to gauge the dynamic range improvements of the GH5.  Ideally at an optimal lower ISO, and maybe a few higher ISO shots.    Thanks!

Anyway it just goes to show how insufferable people are becoming
You can't even joke about feminism in front of some people without them blocking you or unfriending

TwoScoops reacted to Ken Ross in TSA bans cameras in cabin baggage, on flights to the US from 13 countries
Andrew, some of the 9/11 comments I've read in this thread are a particularly sensitive issue for me. I worked on the 100th floor of Tower 1, North side. My office was about 3-4 floors above ground zero where the first plane went in (despite what some conspiracy freaks think...I get physically ill with their comments). Why am I still here? I got a call at about 3PM, the day before, from a client. The client asked if I could attend a meeting the next morning on Long Island. She was very apologetic at the last minute nature of the request. I told her, 'no problem'. Had it not been for that phone call, I wouldn't be here. By the time I got to the client, the first plane had hit and the 2nd plane shortly thereafter. Once the Pentagon was hit I told the client "I'm outta here". Who knew if we were headed towards a world war? My son got home that day after school and ran hysterically into my arms, knowing how close he had gotten to losing his Dad. That night my HR department called my wife, thinking I was missing & probably dead. It was an incredibly emotional time.
For the next month, all I did was attend funerals of my co-workers who weren't so lucky. I can't even begin to tell you all the horror stories I'm aware of. One family was overjoyed because they had a kneecap to bury that was identified via DNA. Other families had nothing to bury, other than memories.
So when you talk security, it's a very sensitive issue for me. Anyone thinks that the U.S. goes overboard with security, is, IMO, clueless. Utterly clueless.
With that said, I agree with you, I am extremely concerned about the political ramifications of some of these intelligence agencies. I personally would fire Comey. He can't be trusted IMO and his almost schizophrenic behavior is a bit concerning. He can talk about one secret investigation but can't comment about another. Not the first time he's done something like that.
There are valid scientific reasons for why WTC7 went down. I'm really sorry this thread was ever started because the ignorance and obvious political biases are depressing.

You are absolutely, totally wrong about this. Steel beams CAN be melted by high temperature fires. Good grief, brush up on science, not witchcraft.
I'm done with this thread. It's just more hatred, bias and all the crap I'd like to escape from.
Just as an aside, for those that think the U.S. is so hated by others, you might want to consider why terrorist events occur in European nations such as France.
I like the camera threads much better and hopefully this entire fiasco of a thread can be deleted. Over & out.

TwoScoops reacted to yoclay in Cinema5D slates the Panasonic GH5, calls V-LOG and 10bit "unusable" - They're wrong
Well, that was a pretty nasty little article.  Why bother ?  The guys over at Cinema5D are trying hard just like everyone else.  Andrew, you talk about them basically as if they were corporate shills, but on the other hand I remember very clearly you promoted the Zacuto eye, saying what a great small EVF for small DSLR cameras

and when I pointed out repeatedly that it had no HDMI input (only SDI so really not adapted at all to those cameras) in your forum, not once ever did you respond.  The point is that your criticism can be extremely harsh, yet I don't see you holding yourself to the very same standards you ask of other people.  It's obvious that not once did you try the product with the DSLR's you mentioned or even consider such a glaring error, so what was that article?  Nothing but an empty promo in the end, right ?
I don't point this out to shame you, but merely to say that your article seems harsh, strident and unfair.  You really seem to have a chip on your shoulder. You could have just as easily rebutted their findings with the points you made in a more gracious manner.  In the current climate do we really need more harsh hate filled rhetoric these days ? Maybe they got it right, maybe they didn't on the GH5, but it's important to cut everyone a little slack now and then.

Set, lighting, post grading etc is probably most important. But with fuck all budget, a more cinematic camera helps a lot too.

    Here's a basic formula:
When possible, take away all the light and carefully add light tuned for the story and emotion of the scene. Look at how often everything is dark, or overall not very bright in classic films. Paint with light. There are tons of books on this subject. Shoot at night and wet down the street. Set the frame rate to 24 (or 23.976), shutter 1/48 (or 1/50). That's for normal shots, you can go all over the place for emotional effect of the scene. Protect highlights so they don't clip and pay careful attention to exposure to keep skin tones in the sweet spot for your camera. Study film behavior for highlights and adjust your look in post to match the highlight and color response of film. Film generally never gets super white. Use a diffusion filter of some kind. Blur a little in post if necessary and add full resolution film grain (blur may not be needed if diffusion is used). Make sure there are no digital artifacts such as aliasing or Moire. Use depth of field to help tell the story by helping the viewer focus on what's important in the scene. If your camera has rolling shutter, make sure to move the camera in a way to minimize it. Try to make the scene a little 'unreal', in a way you would not see in normal everyday life. Like in a dream.

Well to me, that guy lost all credibility, when he sold the BMPCC and bought a freaking Canon T3. If you can't make damn near a feature film with a BMPCC you need to find a new hobby!
Blackmagic gave us poor folk a gift of a lifetime with both the BMPCC and the BMCC. And this guy sells it and buys a God Damn cheap ass Canon!! What the Hell! We are talking ProRes HQ, and Raw! That is what the big boys use. And you can also do it for maybe 650 bucks for the BMPCC, to a grand for the BMCC. And have a beautiful, creamy output. Jesus what does this guy want?? Now he has a GH2, Oh boy that ought to work. Mpeg output.

Out of every piece of gear, cameras depreciate in value probably the fastest.
