If YT detects that you've used someone elses music then it applies the relevant rule from its database.  Most songs get your video demonetised (which means the ad royalties go to the copyright holder of the music instead of you) but some songs are blacklisted and so your video is just blocked and no-one can view it.
YT has a search engine here to inspect what the rules are: https://www.youtube.com/music_policies?ar=2&nv=1
TBH it's actually pretty draconian considering that you might plan, write, cast, shoot, edit, grade and publish a 90-minute video but if you include something like 10s of someone elses music then they get the entire ad revenue and you get nothing, but then again on the other hand YT gives you about 0.3c per view, so you're basically not making much money anyway, which is why every video is now sponsored.

The script itself is royalty free, but the recording/execution/performance is copyrighted. Usually lyric operas are royalty free for the script since most of them were composed before 1950, but the theatres organizing the performance own the copyright of the performance: if the theatre record it and make a CD, they own the recording. If no one is recording the performance, you still cannot go there and record/broadcast it yourself off the records since the execution is still protected, even if it is in a public area. The same goes for concerts and orchestras. At least this is how it works in my country, Italy.
But you are always free to play the music yourself and record it, so you own your copyright ?

Your entire post shows utterly utterly and completely fcvked up copyright laws are across the world!

And the USA has a large amount of that blame! Forcing their stance onto other countries.

And Mickey Mouse constantly being extended (2024 will be a year to watch!).

A good reason to have a new kid every year.

    Maximize that copyright potential!

This is an interesting interview about fair use with the creators of Nirvanna the Band the Show (which is hilarious and everyone should watch it).

i think you have to explaind more about the project.
The first things you can do is watch good documentaries, watch some docs from chris marker, herzog and others documentalist.
other things you can do is to start filming sketch, get your camera to the locations to do a "camera block"(idk how it is on english but is basically just try shoots on the location).
do your homework and investigate, do preview interviews to the characters from your interview before you shot.

Do you sometimes feel that you record everything the same? That you choose the shoots always in the same way and that all your productions look similar? It's just what happens to me. What I feel the day "D".

Decide on the style and format of the doc and then get those shots.
    - Interviews, yes or no? Who to talk to? Where? What questions? How should it look?
    - Voiceover, yes or no? If so, write the script for the VO and record it
Once you have the interviews and/or VO you can put a rough edit in place and then you'll know what B roll you need to illustrate the points being made. And if you know some of this in advance you can begin to capture the B roll now, in which case you should also think about what style you want to shoot it in.

now you just need another arbitrary amount of photos , say ... 1439 and you can make a short movie. Feel free to move the camera/tripod in small amounts as you go.?

Edmika is not the most practical solution there is to getting an FD to eos conversion. Honestly the most practical solution to video is with a specialized video camera and lenses with autofocus and image stabilzation kind of like b4 lenses. Heck, not even using a canon dslr is even practical. Edmika is a solution, which can lead to some interesting results. Do research on the lens mount adapters by Edmika, and make sure there is a good amount of instruction on the lens and also that you know a lot about the lens distance from the camera, but I can assure you the product is real.

@Cinegain you make some valid points, but with all due respect, it seems like you’re still dictating what is, or isn’t, acceptable in an open lens thread.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m interested in almost anything lens related. For instance, Kye’s video link is sending me down a spiral of Canon FD lenses. Speaking of FD lenses, Zach’s contributions with his Canon FD 35-105mm f/3.5 lens, on a t2i, is actually very interesting since we already know that FD lenses don’t easily adapt to EF, so he must have had the mount modified. Your normal lens search would yield little results if searching for images or reviews of that lens on an older model Canon camera. And as a former t2i owner, I can easily ascertain how that lens would translate to other cameras.
With my lens tests, I purposefully use the same actor, in similar locations so I can weed out which lenses I want to keep or sell. I post a couple images from those tests hoping to get some insight from other members or perhaps supply some info to other people that may be wondering how that lens renders with ML Raw. I’m sorry if it isn’t your cup of tea, but it doesn’t mean it’s invaluable to someone else. Hell, without samples, I think a lot of us might not know about the Nikon Bourne Identity lens and how it looked on a G7 or how the Tokina Angenieux Zoom renders on the P4K.
But again, I look forward to your posts regarding topics you find interesting, even if I don’t find them as telling or useful to my work.
But I agree with the sentiment of your comment. It’s given me some food for thought on other ways to tackle my personal lens tests and if I do share any of them, I will try to include a little more pertinent information in future posts.

Zach Goodwin2 reacted to kye in Who is interested in a YT 480p challenge?
The $200 challenge was fun, and I've been thinking about the next one, and what might be some good rules.
I'm travelling and have had slow internet for the last week, and the highest quality I could watch YT without buffering was 480p, and it has been an interesting experience.  Obviously the compression basically hammers the video quality into the dust, but some traits remain, and the aesthetic is interesting.  I've been watching on my 13" laptop screen, and although things are notably fuzzy and lots of movement has lots of artefacts, some of the really important things still come through, like composition, colour, DoF, editing pace, sound, music, etc.
So, I have a challenge and a question....
I challenge you to watch YT in 480p for at least 30 minutes.  The idea is to watch some of your favourite films, and to watch long enough to get used to the quality, so that you get a solid impression of the feel of having very low resolution, rather than just a first impression.  You should watch for long enough to forget you're watching for video quality and see how much enjoyment you still get.
The question is, if I make a next challenge that you have to make a film and one of the criteria is that it must be uploaded to YT in 480p (720x480) would that be of interest to anyone?

This is what a $62K setup looks like on a Canon M50.
IMHO by far the most important aspect of that setup was the lens.
    Buy lenses, not cameras.

I hope you enjoy this forum like I have been. I got in touch with awesome people, making friends on this community. Had the opportunity to read and watch involving and exiting things about lens treasures and lowfi camera tech, about the love for no and low budget filmmaking. I will take a little break off of this forum and will create more, being without the interwebs. So, create and enjoy, my friends! Stay well and happy filming! Marty
