What an adventure! Sure hope Sammy got away unscathed! 😄
Love the use of creative focus, to really give it an over the nose/shoulder FPV feel with the foreground out of focus.

I have had this lens for ages.   Not something I have used a real lot but I do love it and think I am going to use it as the only lens I use for a few weeks.
Mine does not have a build date mark (that I can find anyway) and is a battered old copy externally but nothing wrong with the glass.
A small lens for the speed.    Is actually usable in a pinch for landscape infinity shots though much better stopped down or close in.
Has a large hand ground front aspheric element.

On Sony it also works great as a super fast 2x zoom for jpegs and video.
Well worth getting if you can get one at a decent price (there are some that are at collectors prices on Ebay).
Just snaps walking around.   wide open and 5.6 at distance.   Close in at 1.4 and again at 2x clearzoom.     I took a photo of a friend I met that i would love to post but do not think she would appreciate it. Will have to find a nice stranger to shoot and post as well as video from it.

No worries. Sometimes I wonder if ZachGoodwin is a real boy or a character someone has created. With that said, I'll play along... I think the point of the "hometown" documentary was supposed to be a simple assignment to get you working on a quick and small film. So, I wouldn't worry too much about the demise of the project. But if there is a business or even an interesting person that would allow you to make a film about them and it intrigues you, then go for it.
I think the greater point you need to think about is that a filmmaker needs a film to make to be a filmmaker.
I always thought you wanted to be a narrative filmmaker, so why not spend your time making 60 second short films? Write it, cast it, shoot it and edit it. Then wash, rinse, repeat.
    Good luck.

Then again, if this was just an ordinary FD lens I would just bin it but some are still quite expensive (24 1.4L, 50 1.2 L, this 85 1.2L still go for as much or more than many half decent new lenses) and then there are some real exotics in longer lenses like the 300 2.8 L ETC and the there are real starts like the 200 1.8 L.      The type of repair of those would depend on what it is.       The problem with my 85 1.2 L is the focus throw has become quite loose most likely due to bearings "dissolving" so I do not THINK it would be all that dear as nothing to do with anything optical.

I remember from a phone call with an FD lens repair guy from a distant country him saying that it is cheaper to buy another FD lens than to repair it.

I'd be very surprised.  Considering that I have very little to do with being famous, with people who are famous, or with people who know people who are famous!
My Bacon score isn't 6, but it's not 2 either
[Edit: after a bit of searching (considering I'm not in IMDB) I got it down to 4.  Not bad.]

What do you know about the western three act story structure?  What's you opinion on traditional story telling archetypes like protagonists and antagonist?  Do you appreciate character development, the heroes journey, conflict, resolution, redemption?
You don't need to follow these elements of standard narrative models, but I've found, for me, that it doesn't make sense to break or bend the rules until you understand them.
Put it this way, do you think it would be likely to make an impressive painting if all you access to a tube of titanium white?

    Let’s keep it simple.
    You have 60s.
So that’s 12 x 5s shots. No interviews - just 5s shots. You have to choose the 12 shots. It needs an introduction - so why not start at the town sign?
What impression of your town do you want to convey? Is it peaceful and picturesque? Frantic? Modern or traditional architecture? Is the town best represented by day or night or both?
It’s almost like sending 12 (moving) postcards.
If you make the film and I watch it, what do you want me to think?
Don’t try to shoot 12 perfect 5s shots in the field. Take extra and edit. But don’t take 30 mins of footage either as it’ll be too difficult to edit down. So do some forward planning - 12 “locations” (12 places to stick your tripod or stand or whatever).
The time for thinking is over. Get out and do it. And post it here for us all to see.
And ENJOY IT (or why bother...)

What do they need to know?

    Then answer these questions:

    Where are we?
    What are you/the subject doing?
Why are you/the subject doing it?
And so what? (Or why should I care)

Hang on..  isn't the question about how to FILM the doc, not edit it?
If it's a case of FILMING it, then my suggestion is to:
work out what are the things that are important to include (history of the location, history of key people, people's opinions, where is the drama?) include these key points in the interviews you do work out how you're going to show these key points - are you interviewing the right people, will you get shots of certain locations, do you need historic materials or footage, etc then work out what your constraints are, what is the most difficult aspect of the project?  Is it a person, a location, the weather, scheduled events like festivals, certain natural phenomena aligned with the seasons, etc plan / schedule how to get your most difficult shots, and keep the easier ones as backups For example, if you're shooting an inside and outside film then you might be limited by the weather, so you can film outside on days with the right weather and inside when the weather is bad, or at key locations when they're available and interviews with people who are flexible in the gaps, etc....
Remember that you don't have to shoot things in order, and to keep your mind open and utilise the unexpected when it occurs.

    Happy New Year lens friends...
I have successfully whittled down my collection to a reasonable number and after my shoot the other day, I took a few more shots with the Samyang 50mm 1.4.
This lens has been on the chopping block so many times, I now root for it as the underdog of my collection, but as BTM has said a bunch of times before... Samyang lenses punch a lot more than their weight.

The motion picture work is triple copyrighted (screenwriter, director and music composer) so counts 70 years after the death of the last one. Obviously this rule varies from one jurisdiction to another, depending on the convention to tie.

Be aware that the rules are different for different countries.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries'_copyright_lengths#Copyright_durations_by_country
In the US, for anything made before 1978, it is 95 years (so anything 1925 and older is now public domain) but for post 1978 it is now the life of any of the authors plus 70 years.
That 1978 split throws up some interesting anomalies when you look at the music of John Lennon for example and his two number one records "Imagine" and "Woman".
"Imagine" was 1971 so is pre the change so has the 95 years protection and won't expire until 2066.
"Woman" was 1980 so is post the change so now only has 30 years left as Lennon was killed the same year and expires in 2050, which is sixteen years prior to a song that came nine years earlier.
In the UK, which doesn't have the same 1978 split but does have the "70 years after the last author dies" rule, there is an even bigger anomaly with Lennon due to his work in The Beatles.
If you look at a John Lennon solo track like "Working Class Hero", then due to his death in 1980 that only has another 30 years to run, whereas something he wrote for The Beatles with Paul McCartney a few months earlier like "Let It Be" , still has 70 years plus however long McCartney lives for.
So the solo track expires in 2050 whereas the co-written one is going to be at least 2090.
For years, McCartney has been trying to get Yoko Ono to do a deal where they would change the joint Lennon&McCartney credit to whichever of the two of them actually wrote the song. I'm presuming this is because many of The Beatles' songs that McCartney wrote such as "Let It Be" and "Yesterday" are covered far more frequently than Lennon ones such as "Strawberry Fields" or "I Am The Walrus" so he wants what he sees as a fairer slice of the cake.
Yoko has always resisted this, I'm guessing not only because it would be a sizeable and immediate financial hit but also because the joint authorship with one surviving writer in the partnership will alive will keep The Beatles royalties coming in for the Lennon family for far longer.
As @Emanuel says those rules for films (in the UK at least) meaning that the clock doesn't start ticking until the Writer, Director and Soundtrack Composer have all died will keep a lot of films covered for quite some time.
If you look at "Driving Miss Daisy", the Best Picture winner at the 1990 Oscars, as an example, the Writer, Director and Soundtrack Composer are all still alive so that is now guaranteed to have a minimum 100 year run.
The 1980 winner "Kramer vs Kramer", still has all three alive as well so that is going to be a minimum of 110 years.

No idea how royalties or copyright works. Seems to me youtube has to be getting away with murder with the amount of people doing "covers" and the music sometimes associated with some videos. Technically is that not an infringement ? While in principle i agree with the concept of artists getting their due. I mostly buy cd's so you cant really not pay royalties but i suspect the royalties may be a bit steep if i wanted to use a song in some sort of video, which would probably stifle things somewhat.
Getting back on topic i think i could do something creative with the 1812 overture or ride of the valkeries but classical gas is still copyrighted as well as everything from the 1080's. You know by the end of the 80's all the best notes had been used up. Stuff that came after that might have had a beat or bass but i'm not sure you could call it music. ?
sadly its all academic, well all be long dead before its free to use creatively?

It's SCARY that Corporates and Not Authors, have been pushing Copyrights to a Century and beyond. Copyright should only exist for a few years (10-20) post the authors death. After that its just corporate terrorism.
Also it's scary how corporates and the big artists caught for copyright theft aren't punished more severely.
