Just saw the asking price. m4/3 isn't what it used to be.

Compared to a LS300 it´s pretty swell as a launch price. GH5s with better image, much better grading potential, 10bit vs 8bit, nice EVF and LCD, much better lowlight, no internal NDs of course. It is an interesting deal just like LS300 was and still is.

It would be nice to have extra DR. I wouldn't really care for a flatter image though. Arri Log C and BM Film are ideal in my opinion in terms of log curve.

That´s why you would love full curve for that varicam look which is in the same league as arri.

Is that different than V Log L?

Yeah full VLOG is for EVA1 and Varicam cameras, providing 14stops rather than 12 stops of dynamic range. With full VLOG curve they would have given us the same image as Varicam 35 and LT. Woundn´t that have been crazy and amazing! :) It would also have provided us with the possibility to turn sharpness completely off.

There are two halves to where this heat is coming from:

    Sensor heat

    Processor heat

Yeah processing power is likely less? But they're using a totally different sensor, totally different design, and it seems perhaps it gives off a lot more heat than other Panasonic designs.

Panasonic would also have to rearrange or even put a completely different IBIS in the camera due to new sensor layout and its slight oversize due to multi aspectratios

    Cultural Marxism:

The gradual process of destroying all traditions, languages, religions, individuality, government, family, law and order in order to re-assemble society in the future as a communist utopia. This utopia will have no notion of gender, traditions, morality, god or even family or the state.

As historian Arnold Toynbee once pointed out, "Civilizations die from suicide, not by murder".

We are in the process of dying.

Muaha, muaha, lol! That mimicry of a term is a nonsensical nonterm. There is no such thing as cultural marxism. What this right wing term is describing is in need of a better name. It´s neither cultural forofilmsism nor cultural pannysvhsism, muahaha!

To connect Arnold Toynbee to this term is very misleading.

I just read the techreport.com webcached article , and i see no mention of IBIS or lack of it.

43rumors mention it in their latest post, but that image looks weird to me... nothing like Panasonic would show (zoom in on the GH5s in that picture, it got Dummy written all over it).

Is there some information I'm missing?

Yeah, that graphic has a funky mixture of fonts, fontsize, going all bold and red and nuts with weird layout and adventureous grid.

Full VLOG instead of VLOG L, please! Now Panasonic heard me, just on time:)

  7. If it does not have full VLog instead of VLogL curve nor option for turning sharpness completely off and "only" one stop improvement in lowlight, I think GH5 would be the better choice for my shortfilmmaking pleasures. Edit: Well, if it has the first two features, I would be satisfied with one stop improvement! :)

By the way, that graphic design of the comparision chart of the two cameras looks very, very dubious, especially the lower part of the GH5s specs.

@Cinegain. G9 still has no high bitrate HD mode nor HVFR modes nor 10bit. HD has gotten worse on the lesser Lumix cams since the G7. G7 was the peak of the lesser bunch when it comes to resolution.

  8. Bob ain´t sellin cars. And Lee Moses is a forgotten Soul genius or even more true: he´s hardly been recognized in his time. Youtube can be still a place to find gems like this. I always feel disgusted with the current youpoop startpage, so I have a link in my bookmarks with AF100 as a search term:)

  9. Hey cats! It´s been a maginificient bunch of years, maybe eight or so, of the wizardry of DSLR/M image crafters and creative cinematography as part of true and truthful arts, of what is accomplishable through an image rather than by putting and shoving and screaming and FXing and bloatingly slomoing into peoples faces.

Good enough until the end of times and plenty to research for, to learn from and to build new filmic work upon. One of the search terms is.. GH2. That´s what the magic of the GH2 and a Canon 550D still is. Past of tech but nevertheless a  basement for an aesthetic future. In spirit and magic GH5 has not become a successor of the GH2 yet. Eoshd search and Vimeo search are our friends. Research time, creation time! Thanks to the magic of the GH2 :) I throw some magical digitized S16 Kodak stock into the mix for viewing pleasure. Wish you all a beautiful Sunday evening!

The 4 big quality online camera blogs remaining in the UK are...

    Me!

    Red Shark News http://www.redsharknews.com

James Miller and Philip Bloom's content

you and Philip Bloom I would pick of the  ones you suggested. Daniel Peters has moved on from great test footage to rather quick shots of some sorts. James Miller too focused on just LUTs. RedShark I do not know, Harv having a nice way of presenting but not the content I am looking for at the moment.

Awesome kid on the block, one of the most talented and inspirational is DSLRguide. Entertaining and highly informative. Has been around for a while and still kicking it like Andrew.

  11. We just have to refine our own search algorithms. Searching EOSHD provides tons of knowledge. Maybe refining EOSHDs search engine could open up a whole new EOSHD experience, such as not limiting search to the no of 5 in a row. That could be an interesting discussion and developement of an EOSHD archive. I think I´ll be off for a good EOSHD archive read now  instead of watching a  GH5 video all auto on utubs.

  12. @Fritz Pierre  , I think you have posted some of your work here with the G6 haven´t you. Graded G6 video is still some of my favorite out of the gx80, g6 and gh5 material that I have shot.  Interesting though, the super high resolving HD mode of the GH5 in Natural profile has more aliasing than G6 with both sharpness at -5. GH1,2,3,4,5 all have a different look to them if shot at the same  or equivalent profile and settings. All of them appealing in their own way. I would love to see a sample of your GH5 pieces if you are allowed to share with us.

I'm not sure where all this blind hatred for the GH5 is coming from (to be clear, I'm not accusing PannySVHS of being a hater)

:) Jon, my friend, I know you ain´t accusing me. So don´t worry. All great.

Like I said in my original post and after, different kind of videoshooters using GH5 mainly, compared to GH2 users from back then. Besides,I have been praising the GH5, even for its 8bit 709 HD mode over and over again. I shot my shortfilm with the GH5 in 8bit HD last summer. Still, I find pure cinematic vignettes by searching for the older cams, showcases of great usuage of filmic grammar.

I wanted to share that findings and also have a beautiful discussion going on. I think I achieved both goals well enough.

By the way, the guess the camera game: It is a GH3. Jon was right. I assume, not many have watched it entirely. It has some awesome photographic quality to it, texture, composition, color palette and all.

My favorite GH5 entry besides Luk Neumann awesome lauch film is this one. Fresh, kinetic/cinemato-graphic, pleasing and satisfying montage of things to come, no bloating placeholders but a finished little jewel of visual experience! Love it!

  14. EVA1 is winner here with more modern codec, lowlight with much less chroma noise and artefacts, higher resolution, fatter additional 400mbps codec and Varicam color science. It´s a true indy cinema camera whereas FS7 is an ENG workhorse. The test above is not showing significant footage, it´s like the cat shooting game from the DSLR days, not revealing anything about the quality of the camera. It´s wordy but not showing its assumptions. FS5 codec is has been proved to be crappy a lot of times. FS7 240mbit codec is old and full of artefacts in lowlight. IT´s still the top choice for every day ENG work, because for that it offer great ergos, approaved broadcast quality and most of all workflow.

For indy cinema EVA is an awesome choice for the reasons I gave above about cinematic image with Varicam colors and filmic noise structure and high resultion with superior codecs.

The GH5 is such a hit, that zillions of beginners shooting with this powerhouse. It´s been so popular for every videoshooter, so many beginners shooting with it. Thatfore vimeo gives us dozens and zillions of beginner level footage. Believe me, GH5 in 8bit HD REC709 is already giving cinema experience quality color within three nodes of a quick grade. That´s why it´s a megaseller, because of it´s potential and technical prowess. Buyers just don´t know how to take advantage of it and shoot everyting in LOG without having an idea about the workflow. You guys know what I mean :)

Yeah, I've had an EVA1 for quite a while. It's a plastic shell around a magnesium alloy frame. You can see it if you watch Wooden Camera's video for swapping the EF mount with their PL mount. No complaints about build quality here.

Footage please :) Why did you sell it?

Marty, what movie is that from? Joan of Arc?

Well, that one is the no.1 milestone right there, thank you for pointing out!

The films title is Hard to be a God from 2013, not the rather conventional 1989 version. That film is a beast!

  17. 45 minutes ago, mercer said:

Thanks Marty, but I’m really just a writer who wants to film some of my own material. I definitely don’t have the confidence, or desire really, or time for that matter, to film someone else’s work. My goal is to be a competent enough operator, editor, and colorist that my films don’t look completely like amateur backyard films, while still keeping the spirit and DIY aspect of the run and gun filmmaking I grew up working on.

Your work shows some awesome spirit and super fine skill. I was just hoping for some manpower to carry the lights for you and to cater the actors, that´s all :) Bill n Ted in BW, no, that one deserves to be in color:) No, it´s this monster of a BW masterpiece and milestone of achievement.
