I just think, Panasonic, how could you not put a full HDMI in that beautiful S5! It would have been the perfect full frame GH5, with full VLOG, a Varicam Pocket with better photo quality than a Canon 5D IV. A Megaseller! That micro hdmi is hopefully not keeping this camera from doing well in sales.

I always loved the 28mm look on speedboosted (x 0.71) mft, which should be a little bit wider than the F3 sensor, which is 23.6mm wide. I am still waiting for a good deal on a Black magic video assist HD. Let´s get something started like a fun challenge or whatever we wanna call it. @TheRenaissanceMan @IronFilm @Geoff CB @Antoin e

Kindness is my middle name. Kind of:) My two cents about the GH6: Make it a mini SH1 plus SDI out. Low light as the GH5s or better, dual iso. Settings for zero noise reduction and sharpness and full VLOG curve and V Gamut. 20MP sensor with 7ms readout, super 16 mode, 10 bit 4k60 and perfectly resolved HD with 10bit up to 120fps. Give it that darn VLogger AF mode so it will dominate the market. Sell it for 2000EUR.

100%- thats perfect! Even better, if Panasonic gives the S5 a full HDMI port before they launch it on 30th of September. 🙂 GH6 launch is then allowed to wait a little bit.

@Geoff CB Don´t you have a Tokina 28-70 2.6? Mind filming a bit with that beauty? I own that lens but still not BMVA, so I don´t bother filming with my F3 right now. My S1 gets more exposure for sure. I think F3 owners should do a F3 challenge. What kind of challenge could that be. Footage looks awesome no matter what. No challenge there.;) @Antoin e Hey, would love to see your video! Stills look lovely.

What lens was it? On youtube your wrote it was awful:) Love the results with it. Very beautiful video! @Tim Sewell

@Mustafa Dogan That´s the point I was trying to make in this thread. Thanks for pointing out and pointing to Geralds review. Interesting enough, to use the S5 as a cinema cam, micro HDMI becomes a bummer for certain purposes. I am using my S1 as BCam mostly to the C300ii which I rent. Using the internal monitor is a joy for that. Using it for dolly work or as an ACam on elaborated sets would require an external monitor as eyes get tired from small displays and operating plus focus pulling will suck, especially if doing it for days. So the S5 is an image wonder with a true and astonishing cinema image but not a cinema camera per se. So close to being perfect. Full HDMI, Panasonic! S2 with the same specs plus swivel screen and 10bit for HD 120p and 40k60 for 2500 USD/EUR- perfect cam and full HDMI of course.:)

@Hangs4Fun are you a brand ambassador or tech tester for Sony? Great infos about the A7siii. Thank you. Any caveheats with it like battery life or noise reduction artefacts in low light?

This camera seems to be an image quality monster like the S1H, if the 150mbit 10bit codec is as stellar or the same as on the GH5. And, Varicam image quality. A few of us are still talking about autofocus a lot when we already could assume it would not be much better. That I find missing the point of this 10bit image machine. This is a indie cinema filmmakers camera dream come true. A full frame GH5 with full VLog. A varicam for your backpack. I tested the high iso noise reduction of the S1 in its 709 modes and HLG 75mbit. It looks to my eye pretty much non existent on a big monitor. To users like Dennis alias deezid of course it is still there. And I am happy he has a keen eye on image quality like no other forum member. Btw, for 1999 EU you can get this cam with a Sigma 45 2.8 until September 30th in Europe. If no other caveheats showing up, perfect release, except micro hdmi. Wait, what has Panasonic thought, no fun with external monitors! No fun with focus pulling. Wow, at the end of my rambling I must admit, due to the micro hdmi it is not the indie cinema filmmakers dream come true. GH5 still is. But it is an image quality lovers dream come true. Darn, no full HDMI. How, excuse me, silly does that look. Would have been a perfect release with one. Really dig that tasty image quality as shown in Potato Jets review:

When is the S5 hitting the stores? Cannot wait to see reviews, sell my S1 and get one. Swivel screen and all the codecs already in there are too much to hold back. Well done, Panasonic, a disappointed customer becomes a satisfied customer. All by the same product. What a paradox! Darn!:)

Havent seen new S1 cameras with the Vlog update for that price, neither without the Vlog. Swivel screen on the S5 is super cool for me. S5 does not have full HMDI?
-
Haven´t you posted these exact words before? You really mean it and you love your S1. Want to get a second body? I might sell mine. cheers 🙂
-
I think the same. I might sell my S1 and not bother with hybrids anymore. I love the Lumix brand but this product philosophy and conduct kinda makes want to leave my Pannysvhs alias behind and just stay with Svhs or VHS or pencil and paper. Writing might be a beautiful to do. Becoming better in concepting. Spent so much money on cameras. S1 will have to go I feel. MFT and FS700 and F3 will stay.

All of my favorite of Andrews videos offer beautiful colour. Digital Bolex, GH4 in amazing glory, Samsung NX1, of course GH1 and GH2 with legendary quality, and so on- all showcase colour and milk the last bit of image quality, not even talking about the beautiful compositions, atmosphere and aesthetic pleasure. In my eyes the GFX video looks blank colour wise. I don´t know if it is the incarnation of FLog or the season of the year but I am a bit surprised. Colour has not that Fuji Eterna magic which we know from the XT series. Coupling this beast of a camera with the Zeiss zoom is an awesome move. Good thing there are not so many GFX owners out there to rise prices for the Zeiss zoom into the four digit region.:) Would be lovely to see some lucious nature and impressive faces with this camera.

S5 and S1 with update (not free unfortunately unlike the cheaper S5, no 4k60 10bit whatsoever unlike that upcoming rascal camera S5 😞 ) provide astonishing cinema image quality in a small form factor. Their image quality is pretty unique at that price point. It rivals, equals a C300ii but with much better low light and without any nasty noise reduction. Couple that with some cheaper vintage glass and you are in cinema heaven on the cheap. I still cannot believe the quality of the S1 even in its puny 75mbit hlg h265 mode. Still, if Pana wants to show uncomparable grace in their product line up, they give us some tasty free update for the S1. If so, I will call them Panny again. Hope that could be a good reason to give us the quality codecs and VLOG of their lesser S5 camera. Untile then my name shall be PanaSVHS. Love the size of the S1 though. One point for S1 owners.:) Z6 in the store does not quiete compare for me in that regard.

The super-rare "Baby Kowa" 2x Anamorphic-8 adapter...WOW!
PannySVHS replied to Chronoscope's topic in Cameras
Darn, what a thread! Tasty as tasty anamorphic can be! Whatever that means. It means: Wow!:) -
I would be upset at Pana for still charging 200 EU for the update. Not upset in a sense that matters in perspective to the great cameras and opportunities for film and digital art. Still the opposite of proactive or intuitively reactive exitement regarding my own purchase and its fiscal consequence in perspective to the S5 launch. Great camera, not so great camera or Lumix S1 mood right now for me. No biggie just a bit complaining on our favorite camera blog. Don´t get pulled into this too much, of course. :) Anyway, cameras are too good these days to be true. Crazy image quality in the Lumix line and BM and Canon and Nikon cams, not even to talk about the C series or EVA, Varicam and likes. GH5 was the biggest launch in my eyes for true low budget cinema. What a camera. S5 will even top that. I might get one, if battery and anything else is as strong as its codecs and video. cheers
-
Pay 200 EU for a software update if you are a S1 owner but get all that stuff for free plus swivel screen plus 10bit 4K60. Unappealing outlook on this new release. S1 was not a good deal compared to the S5, if specs are true without caveheats. S5 will could be a megaseller like the GH5, the number is right already. S1, i feel a bit cheated by Pana due to the S5 release. @Andrew Reid Andrew, if you find time, what is the benefit of buying a S1 these days in your opinion? Are there any, especially without the 200EU VLOG update? We will see, there arent any. I am not considering the battery and the top display a good trade off for the missing codecs, 10bit and VLOG, nor swivel screeen. S5 really looks super exiting! Darn!
-
@Geoff CB But you seem to care how it looks like, since you are reposting the whole post again. 🙂 Yes, let´s see some moving images of that combo or even from the camera alone!
-
@DFason super cool video and exellent editing! Awesome that the little guys didnt end up as food and can enjoy the lush nature instead! Would love to see a setup of your beautiful camera. cheers
-
We should encourage Panasonic not to cripple the S1 with a paid update for VLog and 10bit. G9 has gotten a free 10bit update. Would be very cool if Panasonic could give us the same HD quality as the GH5 too. No necessity for less HD quality than on the GH5.
-
Wowsers! 1986, VHS heaven:) Yeah, I love their cams, Got five of them, GF1, G6 (stopped working, did great being my first digital video camera), G7, GX85, S1. Now you Gods at Panasonic, give my GF1 that freaking VLOG update:) @Andrew Reid Do you see good reasons to not to sell the S1 and get a S5. And, do you see a good reason for new buyers to get a S1 rather than the S5. Your word on this would be super cool! Thanks!

S1 with out the VLOG and 10bit update becoming the stinker in the lineup. Not an exiting purchase I did, compared to the upcoming S5. After one and a half year after its release it is already very unattractive compared to its follow up. Selling a S1 now to video lovers feels like cheating them. @Andrew Reid Why should one buy the S1 for 10bit video these days? 200 EUR for the software update of the S1 while the S5 already has it plus 4k60 in 10bit! I´ve been a Panasonic fan for years, big time. Not anymore by heart but maybe by pragmatism due to their nice cams. Just not by heart anymore. I know cameras a banal to be worrying about. But hey, this is a camera forum and a place of joy and sometimes lamento.
-
That not only makes the S1 a lesser keeper in the linup but rather the stinker after one and a half year after its introduction. Will sell it I guess before prices drop too much. Was close to buy the VLOG update for 200. Not anymore.
